History of Bratt

Bratt , Florida has much historical significance, both local and national.

Breastworks Road which is one of the many dirt roads in Bratt was a site where Andrew Jackson and his troops camped while fighting the indians.

Bratt was named after a family who lived here in the late 1800s.  A man named L. G. Hanks built a store here which contained a post office , but he did not have a name for the town to go on the post office, so he submitted three names for consideration, and Bratt was the one that was chosen.  Back then 40 Acres of land would cost a man $2.89 for the whole 40 Acres.  The L. G. Hanks family consisted of 15 children and 5 grandchildren all under one roof.

The First Bratt School Was organized in 1929. Its origination resulted from the combining of two area schools, Wardville and Gilley.  The name for the school came from the community name.

The first building which contained classrooms for grades one through eight , was destroyed by fire around 1940.  The second Bratt School building was the old "Gym" building which was still on the present campus and used for classes until about 1991, It housed grades one through ten.
