Mega Millions At $790 Million For Tuesday, Fourth Largest U.S. Lottery Prize Ever

The Mega Millions jackpot has reached $790 million for Tuesday’s drawing after no one matched all six winning numbers Friday night.

The winning numbers were the white balls 14, 40, 60, 64 and 66, plus the gold Mega Ball 16.

The estimated cash prize for the $790 million jackpot drawing on Tuesday is about $464.4 million.

There have been only three lottery jackpots ever won – in any game – at a higher level than next Tuesday’s estimated prize of $790 million. Two were Mega Millions jackpots – $1.537 billion won in South Carolina on October 23, 2018, and $1.050 billion won in Michigan on January 22, 2021. The current world record lottery prize is a $1.586 billion Powerball® jackpot won on January 13, 2016.

From Pencils And Clothes To Computers — Florida’s Back To School Sales Tax Holiday Begins Today

Florida’s Back to School Sales Tax Holiday begins today and continues through August 7.

During the sales tax holiday period, tax is not due on the retail sale of:

  • Clothing, footwear, and certain accessories with a sales price of $100 or less per item
  • Certain school supplies with a sales price of $50 or less per item,
  • Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles with a sales price of $30 or less
  • Personal computers and certain computer-related accessories with a sales price of $1,500 or less, when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use

These Are The Road Construction Spots To Watch This Week

Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.

Escambia County:

  • U.S. 98 Pensacola Bay Bridge Replacement Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures and lane shifts on the Pensacola Bay Bridge Sunday, July 24 through Saturday, July 30 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Tuesday, July 26, U.S. 98 westbound (Gulf Breeze to Pensacola) will have lane closures beginning at 10 p.m. due to Bands on the Beach. Crews will be using lanes on the current bridge as a platform to pour concrete decks for the westbound (Gulf Breeze to Pensacola) structure.
  • West Cervantes Street (U.S. 90) Pedestrian Safety Improvement – Drivers may encounter intermittent daytime and nighttime single lane closures and lane shifts, between A Street and Dominguez Street, as crews adjust manholes and pedestrian fencing.
  • North Ninth Avenue (State Road (S.R.) 289) Carpenters Creek Bridge Replacement – All travel lanes are temporarily shifted to the southbound side of the bridge as crews construct the northbound portion. Additionally, drivers may encounter intermittent temporary lane closures Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. as crews mobilize materials and equipment.
  • Pace Boulevard from Barrancas Avenue to Massachusetts Avenue – Pedestrians will encounter alternating sidewalk closures on Pace Boulevard, between Barrancas Avenue and North Palafox Street (U.S. 29), as crews perform sidewalk and curb improvements. Pedestrians will be detoured to the signalized intersections to access sidewalks on the opposite side of Pace Boulevard during this time.
  • Pensacola Boulevard (U.S. 29) from Brent Lane to North of Interstate 10 (I-10) Palafox Street southbound at the Saint John Street intersection will be closed from 8 a.m. Monday, July 25 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 26. The temporary closure will allow crews to perform widening and drainage work. During the closure, Palafox Street southbound traffic will be detoured to Airport Boulevard to access U.S. 29 (Pensacola Boulevard). Construction signs will be in place to alert drivers of the closure and detour.
  • I-10 at the Interstate 110 (I-110) Interchange – Drivers will encounter the following traffic impacts Sunday, July 24 through Thursday, July 28 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.:
    • Alternating lane closures on the I-110 northbound ramp to I-10 westbound as crews perform asphalt work.
    • Alternating lane closures on the I-110 northbound ramp to Davis Highway and the I-110 northbound ramp to I-10 eastbound as crews place high friction surface treatment on the ramps.
  • Sorrento Road (S.R. 292) Intersection Improvements at Innerarity Point (County Road 292A) – Motorists can expect intermittent daytime shoulder closures the week of Monday, July 25 for placement of watermain.

Santa Rosa County:

  • Pensacola Bay Bridge (U.S. 98) Replacement Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures and lane shifts on the Pensacola Bay Bridge Sunday, July 24 through Saturday, July 30 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Tuesday, July 26, U.S. 98 westbound (Gulf Breeze to Pensacola) will have lane closures beginning at 10 p.m. due to Bands on the Beach.   • U.S. 98 Widening from Bayshore Road to Portside Drive – Motorists will encounter the following traffic impacts:

    • Intermittent lane closures and additional median closures between S.R. 281 and Bayshore Road Sunday, July 24 through Friday, July 29 from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for paving operations.
    • Settlers Colony Boulevard remains open. The closure has been postponed until further notice due to material delays.
  • I-10 Resurfacing East of S.R. 281 (Avalon Boulevard) to East of S.R. 87 – Motorists can expect intermittent nighttime lane closures Monday, July 25 through Thursday, July 28 for construction activities.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Brenda Lonieze Noyes Wright Lunsford

Brenda Lonieze Noyes Wright Lunsford, age 79, of Cantonment, passed away unexpectedly on July 23rd, 2022.

Brenda was born in Birmingham, AL on 10/2/42 where she grew up as the middle daughter of Fred H. Noyes and Vera R. Noyes. She attended Banks High School before she married and moved to Cantonment, FL in 1961.
Brenda raised a son Scott and daughter Sherrie and then two more daughters, Vicki and Deitri, with her husband of fifty-two years James (Jimmy) R. Wright. She enjoyed being a homemaker and full-time Mom for 24 years before deciding to join the workforce in 1985. Brenda proudly worked at Azalea Trace Retirement Home for 20 years as a Home Health Aide.

Brenda was a member of Gonzalez Baptist Church for over 60 years where she loved to sing in the church choir. Brenda also sang and played the piano frequently at home for her family with Jimmy accompanying her on harmonica.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Vera Noyes, first husband James “Jimmy” Wright, and her son, Scott Allen Wright.

After the passing of her husband Jimmy, Brenda reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Donald (Don) Lunsford and they married in 2020.

Brenda’s passions included reading, long drives through the country, music, history/genealogy, laughter, and most of all her Lord Jesus Christ and her family. Brenda was loved by everyone who was lucky to meet her.

She is survived by her husband Don Lunsford, and her three daughters, Sherrie Cahoon (Jodie) of Tallahassee, Vicki Wright of Pace, and Deitri Dorion of Cantonment; six grandchildren, Desta Gourley (Travis) and Scott Cahoon of Tallahassee, Kayla, Mallory, Lily, and Lucas Dorion of Cantonment; a sister, Jackie Wright of Winfield, AL and brother Charlie (Sarah) of Birmingham, AL; as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 26th from 5:00-7:00 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. Services are on Wednesday, July 27th at 10:00 at Gonzalez Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Mashburn officiating.

Donations in Brenda’s honor can be made to Gonzalez Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.

Florida Gas Prices Continue Downward Slide

Florida gas prices dropped an average of 17 cents per gallon last week. It was the largest weekly decline since gas prices began falling six weeks ago.

The state average has now declined a total of 79 cents per gallon, since setting a new record high of $4.89 per gallon in mid-June. he cost to fill an average 15-gallon tank of gas has declined nearly $12 since then.

The lowest price Sunday night in Cantonment was $3.74 per gallon at a station on Highway 29 in Cantonment, while a low of $3.54 could be found in Pensacola at the warehouse clubs and $3.57 at several Nine Mile Road stations.

“Gas prices continue their downward march, after another week of losses in the oil market and underwhelming gasoline demand figures,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group.

Barbara Ann Talbot

Our dearest mom, Barbara Ann Talbot, sadly passed away the morning of July 19th, 2022, at the age of 70. Barbara, affectionately known as “Bo”, spent the majority of her adult life in Pensacola, FL where she raised her six children. Some of her most cherished moments were spent with family on Saturdays listening to Yacht Rock, watching Alabama football, laying out at the beach or sweating at the ballpark. She made some lifelong friends along the way who became more like family.

Bo left behind a large group of people that will miss her immensely. With her passing, she joins her mother, father and five of her siblings. She is survived by her sister, Doris Davis (Paxton), six children, Shane Howell (Milton), Allison DeCastro (Los Angeles), Nikki Gill (Molino), Brian Howell (Pensacola), Justin Luttrell (Cantonment), Ryan Luttrell (Pensacola), son-in-law Robert Gill, daughter-in-law Erin Luttrell, granddaughters Kiersey, Téa, Kinsey, Jordyn and Chase, and grandsons Cade, Grant and Cooper.

Because of her love for her granddogs and cats (Rosco, Duke, Josie, Violet, Bad Cat and Amos), in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Escambia County Animal Shelter.

Major Harrison Pope

Major Harrison Pope, age 87, of Molino, Florida passed away on July 11, 2022. Harold was born in Pensacola, Florida. Harold loved his family. He ministered in music throughout churches and nursing homes in the surrounding area. Music and making people smile were his daily goals. Harold served in the Air Force he retired as an Air Craft Mechanic NAS. He is survived by his son, Joshua (Angelia) Pope; granddaughters, Crista Pope and Marlo Pope; grandson, Caleb (Hannah) Pope; great grandsons, Benjamin and Rhys; brother, Virgil Pope; sister, Myrtle Fay Rodgers, many nieces and nephews.

Graveside only at Barrancas National Cemetery on July 26, 2022 at 10:00am.
