Indeed, Walnut Hill is small, but very important with a lot of information and important facts. It is also filled with tons of people with generous hearts. As you continue to read, you will find out what I mean.
Around 3:00 a.m. Easter morning 2001 a tragedy happened. Three young children were killed in that tragedy. It all started when one of Mrs. Katie Mae Marshall's grandchildren accidentally left the stove on after cooking. Because of the gas flames, the home caught on fire. The fire spread rapidly through the nice sized trailer which had no fire alarms. Fortunately, one of the grandchildren woke up and got Mrs. Marshall up as well. She tried her best to get all of the children out of the trailer safely, but she couldn't. Three grandchildren were left inside and died. The trailer and everything inside of it was completely destroyed. Many people from Walnut Hill and other places donated a number of great and helpful items to the family. This is just one example of the type of generosity that is expressed throughout the Walnut Hill community.
