Interesting Facts

The three-trail road that was mentioned in the history section of this site, is now known as Highway 97. It runs through Davisville and connects Walnut Hill with Atmore. This road was first graded by mule teams in 1908. Across the road from Lum Davis's barn, now Joe Davis' farm, was the only road marker on this stretch of road, a wooden sign stating "Pensacola 45 Miles." Highway 97 was later paved in the middle to late 1930s with W.P.A. labor.

With the removal of the oldest home in Davisville, an era came to an end. The house was built in the early 1900s by H.R. Davis and his wife Isabel. Here they raised their family of eight sons and two daughters. Shown in the above photo is one of the sons and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Davis, who live at Davisville.
