Escambia Boat Registration Fees Increasing By 50%, But You Can Renew Now And Save

Boat registration fees in Escambia County will increase by half in a few weeks, but there’s time to renew now and save a little money.
In March, the Escambia County Commission approved an additional registration fee equal to 50% of what is currently charged by the state. The increase won’t be significant. For example, the fee will increase by $2.75 for vessels under 12 feet, $8.13 for a boat 12-16 feet, and $14.38 for 16-26 feet.
Escambia County Tax Collector Scott Lunsford said boaters can renew their registration now for up to years and avoid the increase that goes into effect July 1.
Escambia County will use the increased revenue for its Marine Resources division for derelict vessel and debris renewal, cleanup of waterways and other projects that affect the health and accessibility of local marine, freshwater and coastal resources.

Rain Halts Scoreless Game Between Wahoos And Barons In Birmingham

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos and Birmingham Barons played to a scoreless tie through three innings on Wednesday before rain forced the suspension of play.
Wednesday’s game will pick up on Thursday at 4:30 in the top of the fourth inning, with a 7-inning game to follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game.
Eury Pérez and Emilio Vargas traded zeroes through three innings, with only one hit for each team. Pérez struck out two batters and did not walk a batter, needing only 34 pitches to work 3.0 frames.
The Blue Wahoos lead the South Division by 3.5 games with 17 to play in the first half, pending other games throughout the league.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Barons on Thursday with a modified doubleheader.
Wahoos Coast To 10-1 Over Birmingham

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos won their fourth in a row on Tuesday night, opening up their six-game series against the Birmingham Barons with a blowout 10-1 victory.
A.J. Ladwig (W, 1-1) delivered a quality start for his first win in the Marlins organization, allowing only an unearned run over 6.0 solid innings.
The Blue Wahoos maintained their lead in the South Division by 3.5 games with 17 to play in the first half, pending other games throughout the league.
Ray-Patrick Didder opened up the scoring in the second with a solo homer, and Luis Aviles Jr. made Birmingham starter Jason Bilous (L, 3-5) pay for three walks in the third with a three-run homer of his own.
Troy Johnston and Paul McIntosh twice went back-to-back with RBI doubles in the fourth and sixth innings. Johnston, the reigning Southern League Player of the Week, finished 2-for-4 and McIntosh was 4-for-5 with 4 runs batted in.
Andrew McInvale and Josh Simpson relieved Ladwig with the game well in hand, facing the minimum over the final three frames to coast to victory.

Register Now For Tate Cheerleaders’ Lil Aggies Summer Camp

The Tate High School Cheerleaders’ Lil Aggies Summer Camp is coming up the last week of the month, and now is the time to register. Space is limited.
The registration forms and payment are due by Thursday, June 23. The camp will take place at Tate Monday, June 27 through Wednesday, June 29 from 8 a.m. until noon each day. The camp Tate Aggies cheerleaders will teach athletes the property stretch techniques, sideline cheers and chants, proper jump techniques and motion placement, as well as stunting and tumbling skill building. There will also be fun games, engaging activities, snacks and drinks.

Wahoos Win With Another Wild Walk-Off

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos walked off the Biloxi Shuckers for the third night in a row on Sunday, winning 7-6 thanks to four consecutive hit batsmen to end the game.
Trailing 6-4 going to the bottom of the ninth, the Blue Wahoos needed to put only one ball in play against Harold Chirino (L, 1-1) as Troy Johnston reached on an error, Griffin Conine drew a walk, and Luis Aviles Jr., Ray-Patrick Didder, Cobie Fletcher-Vance and Bubba Hollins were each plunked.
The Blue Wahoos took five of six from the Shuckers, four in walk-off fashion, and now lead the South Division by 3.5 games with 18 to play in the first half.
Pensacola starter Cody Mincey allowed a pair of two-run homers to Sal Frelick and Felix Valerio to put the Blue Wahoos in an early hole. J.D. Orr was an early offensive bright spot, walking and scoring from second on a wild pitch in the third and singling and scoring on an error in the fifth.
Trailing 6-2 in the seventh, Aviles Jr. brought home a run with a two-out RBI single, Pensacola’s only run-scoring hit of the game. Orr drove in another run in the eighth with an RBI groundout, and Dylan Bice (W, 1-0) worked a quiet ninth to keep the game 6-4.
Chirino threw 21 pitches, only nine for strikes, and hit the final four batters of the ballgame to send the Blue Wahoos to their third walk-off win in a row.
After an off day on Monday, the Blue Wahoos embark on a six-game road trip to Birmingham on Tuesday.

Wahoos Get Another Walk-off Win Over The Shuckers

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos rallied for four runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Biloxi Shuckers 8-7 on Saturday night, securing their third walk-off win in their past five games and extending their division lead.
Troy Johnston hit a pair of home runs, including a game-tying two-run blast in the ninth, and Luis Aviles Jr. sent a sellout crowd home happy with the walk-off sacrifice fly three batters later.
Johnston is batting .700 (14-for-20) with four home runs in his past five games against Biloxi this week, and is batting a blazing .553 (26-for-47) through the first 11 games of Pensacola’s homestand.
Pensacola starter Jeff Lindgren delivered a quality start, allowing two runs on four hits over 6.0 innings despite a career-high five walks. Thomas Dillard opened the scoring with an RBI double in the first, but Johnston leveled things up with a solo homer to left field in the bottom half of the inning.
Yeison Coca hit a solo homer from Biloxi in the fourth, his first of the year, but again the Blue Wahoos evened the score in the bottom half of the inning with a Ray-Patrick Didder solo homer. Paul McIntosh hit a solo homer of his own in the sixth to give the Blue Wahoos a 3-2 lead before Jason Lopez went deep for Biloxi in the seventh to tie the game 3-3.
Jefry Yan struggled in relief for the Blue Wahoos, allowing a go-ahead two-run double to Yeison Coca in the top of the eighth and a two-run single to Dillard in the ninth, but Colton Hock (W, 4-2) stranded two more baserunners to prevent further damage.
The Blue Wahoos scored an unearned run in the eighth against Taylor Floyd (L, 0-1), but needed three to tie in the ninth trailing 7-4. J.D. Orr started the rally with an infield single, and José Devers brought the tying run to the plate with an RBI triple. Johnston then unloaded a 3-2 pitch into the right-center berm for his second homer of the night to tie the game 7-7. Griffin Conine walked, McIntosh sent a double to the warning track in right center to bring the winning run to third, and Aviles hit a deep fly to center field to bring home Conine and end the game.
With the win, Pensacola’s lead in the South Division has grown to 2.5 games over the Shuckers and M-Braves with 19 to play in the first half.

Wahoos Get Walk-off 9-8 Win Over Biloxi

Troy Johnston stayed red-hot at the plate, hitting a game-tying homer in the seventh and a walk-off single in the ninth to lead the Pensacola Blue Wahoos to a 9-8 victory over the Biloxi Shuckers on Friday night.
Johnston went 3-for-5 with three runs batted in, raising his average to .545 (24-for-44) through the first ten games of Pensacola’s homestand. He now has multi-hit efforts in 8 of his last 9 games.
Biloxi jumped ahead early with four first-inning runs against Bryan Mitchell, who was making his Blue Wahoos debut. A two-run double from Jakson Reetz and RBI single from Thomas Dillard highlighted the frame, which came to an abrupt end when center fielder Victor Victor Mesa threw out Tristen Lutz at the plate for the third out of the inning.
Pensacola chipped away at the deficit in the third against Victor Castañeda, as Griffin Conine hit an RBI single and Luis Aviles Jr. hit an RBI double. Mitchell also settled down, pitching hitless baseball through his final three innings to keep the game within reach.
Aviles doubled again in the fifth to shrink Biloxi’s lead to 4-3, but the Shuckers answered back in the sixth with a Cam Devanney homer against Josh Simpson. Johnston’s game-tying two-run homer in the seventh was just the start of a five-run frame that saw the Blue Wahoos take an 8-5 lead, as Conine doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly and J.D. Osborne launched a two-run homer of his own.
Dylan Bice worked a pair of scoreless innings in relief, but the Shuckers ambushed Eli Villalobos (W, 2-1) in the ninth. After a single and a hit batsman, Villalobos allowed a three-run homer to Lutz to tie the game 8-8.
Against J.T. Hintzen (L, 3-3) in the ninth, the Blue Wahoos coaxed back-to-back walks before Johnston lined a single into right center to score the winning run. It was Pensacola’s third walk-off of the season, and their second of the series after a 10-inning win on Tuesday.
With the win, Pensacola’s lead in the South Division has grown to 1.5 games over the Shuckers with 20 to play in the first half.
The Blue Wahoos continue their homestand against the Biloxi Shuckers on Saturday.

Shuckers Top Wahoos 10-7

Despite a strong offensive performance, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos couldn’t hold a pair of early leads in a 10-7 loss to the Biloxi Shuckers on Thursday night.
Troy Johnston went 4-for-5 with a homer and three runs batted in, improving his batting average to .538 (21-for-39) through the first nine games of Pensacola’s homestand. The first baseman now has multi-hit games in 7 of his last 8 games dating back to last Wednesday, and is batting .298 on the season.
Johnston homered in the bottom of the first to give the Blue Wahoos a 1-0 lead, but it didn’t last long as Biloxi’s Cam Devanney answered in the second against Zach McCambley (L, 2-4) with a solo homer of his own. A Terence Doston RBI single in the fourth gave the Shuckers a 2-1 lead.
Griffin Conine followed a Johnston single in the fifth with a two-run homer, his eighth of the year, giving the Blue Wahoos a 3-2 advantage. The Shuckers retaliated once again in the sixth with a four-run frame, as RBI singles from Yeison Coca and Doston were followed by a two-run double from Felix Valerio to give Biloxi the lead for good.
Shuckers starter T.J. Shook (W, 1-0) completed 6.0 innings for his longest Double-A start, and Pensacola’s bullpen struggles enabled Biloxi to extend their advantage. Noah Campbell hit an RBI triple in the seventh against George Soriano, and Thomas Dillard and Tristen Lutz hit back-to-back homers against Colton Hock in the eighth before Doston capped the scoring with an RBI double in the ninth.
Johnston added a two-run double in the eighth and Luis Aviles hit a two-run double in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough for the Blue Wahoos as they dropped their first game of the series.
With the loss, Pensacola’s lead in the South Division has shrunk to 0.5 games over the Shuckers with 21 to play in the first half.
The Blue Wahoos continue their homestand against the Biloxi Shuckers on Friday.

Two License-Free Fishing Weekends This Month In Florida

There are two license-free fishing weekends coming up this month in Florida.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has set license-free weekends of June 4-5 for saltwater and June 11-12 for freshwater.
License-free fishing days provide a fun opportunity for new anglers to try fishing for the first time or experienced anglers to introduce a friend or family member to a new hobby. The fishing license requirements are waived for all recreational anglers during these dates but all other rules including seasons, bag and size limits still apply.
