Strike Out Cancer Game Raises Nearly $28,000 As Tate Hosts West Florida (With Gallery)

The Tate High School Strike Out Cancer game raised nearly $28,000 Friday night with funds raised by both Tate and West Florida high schools, and other including the umpire’s association.

During the game, the Lady Jaguars defeated the Lady Aggies 6-1.

Sydney Scapin earned the win for West Florida, going for a complete game allowing one run one four hits and striking out 15. Scapin also led the Jags at the plate, going 3-3.

Jordan Smith allowed six hits and two runs over four innings while striking out three for Tate.  Peyton Womack was in the circle for three innings, allowing five hits, four runs and striking out one. Lacy Wilson was tops at the plate for the Aggies, going 2-3. Kara Wine and Kylea Gibbs also had hits for Tate.

No. 1 Pace Defeats The Tate Aggies 5-2 (With Gallery)

The Pace Patriots, ranked No. 1 in the state, defeated the Tate Aggies 5-2

With bases loaded again in the bottom of the seventh, Caden Kelly was called out on strikes (pictured first below) on a below the knees ball.

Rilee Lowery went for three on the mound for Tate, allowing two runs, two hits and striking out three. Gabriel Patterson was on the mound for four, allowing three hits, three runs  and striking out three.

Northview Takes Double Header Over J.U. Blacksher (With Gallery)

The Northview Chiefs took both games of a double header over J.U. Blacksher Friday in Bratt.

Northview 4, J.U. Blacksher 0

In the first game of the twin bill, Carson Burkett pitched a complete game shutout as Northview beat Blacksher 4-0.

Burkett had seven strikeouts and walked just one.

Kaden Burkett led the Chiefs going 2-3 at bat. Luke Bridges, Rustin Pope, Jamarkus Jefferson, Josh Landis and Ethan Collier all had a hit for Northview.

Northview 7, J.U. Blacksher 3

In the nightcap, Northview defeated Blacksher 7-3.

Jarmarkus Jefferson went five and a third innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out seven. Grayden Sheffield threw one and two thirds innings, allowing no hits and no runs while striking out three.

At the plate, Northview had hits from Jefferson, Kaden Odom, Luke Bridges, Rustin Pope, Josh Landis and Tyler Shaw.

Stuckey Throws Shutout As Northview Beats Escambia 10-0 (With Gallery)

Aubrey Stuckey threw a complete game shutout as the Northview Chiefs beat the Escambia Gators 10-0 in five innings Thursday evening in Bratt.

The Chiefs jumped out to a six-run lead in the first inning.

Jamison Gilman went 2-3 to lead the Chiefs at the plate. Stuckey, Emma Gilmore, Ry Brooks, M Golson, A Flowers and B Hall each added a hit for Northview.

Stuckey allowed two hits and no runs in five innings while walking one.

The Chiefs recorded seven stolen bases Thursday, including two each from Gilman and Chloe Ragsdale.

The Lady Chiefs will travel to Baker on Tuesday.

In junior varsity action, Northview beat Escambia 7-6 Thursday.

Tate High Tennis Tops Navarre

Tate High Aggies boys and girls tennis defeated Navarre High Wednesday. The Tate boys beat NHS 6-1, and the girls won 7-0. Up next, Tate tennis will host Pace High on Thursday.

Northview Boys, Girls Win Track Meet (With Gallery)

March 29, 2023

Northview High School’s boys and girls track teams finished first at a recent track and field meet, the first held at the school in Bratt in about a decade.

Northview had not hosted a meet in years due to the poor condition of the track, but it was recently resurfaced.

Northview Drops Monday Night Game To West Florida (With Gallery)

West Florida 11, Northview 5

The Northview Chiefs took an early lead but couldn’t hang on Monday night as they lost to West Florida 11-5.

The Chiefs took a 2-0 lead on a Josh Landis double in the bottom of the first inning before West Florida tied it up in the top of  the third. The Jaguars jumped ahead with five runs in the fifth.

Tyler Shaw went for six innings for Northview, giving up six hits and seven runs while striking out eight. Kayden Odom pitches two-thirds of the final inning, allowing no hits and no runs while striking out one. Landis tossed one-third of an inning, giving up two hits and four runs.

Landis was 4-4 at the plate for the Chiefs. Northview also had one hit each from Shaw, Luke Bridges, Rustin Pope, Jamarkus Jefferson, Wyatt Scruggs and Cason Burkett.

On Tuesday, the Chiefs will host the Washington Wildcats at 7:00.

Northview 8, West Florida 2 (JV)

Also Monday, the Northview Chiefs junior varsity team beat the West Florida High Jaguars JV team 8-2.

Tate Softball’s Strike Out Cancer Game Is Friday

March 27, 2023

The Tate Aggies 13th Annual Strike Out For Cancer softball game will be this Friday. Last year, the event raised $31,000 for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.

The Aggies will host the West Florida Lady Jags; the junior varsity game will be at 5 p.m. and the varsity game will follow at 7 p.m.

Admission is by donation. Fish dinners will be $15, and egg rolls will be $2 or three for $5. Other concessions will be available.

Northview Falls Short In W.S. Neal JV Tournament

The Northview Chiefs took part in a JV tournament Saturday at W.S. Neal High School in East Brewton.

W.S. Neal 6, Northview 3 (JV)

Northview took an early three point lead in the first inning against W.S. Neal but could not hold on.

Brooks started for Northview, going two innings, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out  four.

Andalusia def. Northview

Andalusia High JV also defeated the Northview Chiefs on Saturday.
