Northview Chiefs Beat Neal

The Northview Chiefs beat W.S. Neal 4-3 Monday afternoon in Bratt.
Neal scored one run in the first and two in the third to carry a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth. The Chiefs rallied for two in the fourth and two in the fifth to take the lead for good. Austin Arrington laid down a sacrifice bunt in the fifth scoring Aaron Chancery to tie the game at three each. Dabney Langhorne followed with a twwo-out single to score Brad Lowery for the game winner.
Leading hitters for the Chiefs were Brad Lowery, 1 for 2 with a run scored; junior Austin Arrington 1 for 1 with two sacrifices, a run scored, and one RBI; Dabney Langhorne 1 for 2 with two RBI’s; Austin Reid 1 for 2 at the plate; and Brandon Sheets with an RBI.
Senior Brad Lowery pitched four innings for Northview, giving up three runs on four hits, walked none, and struck out seven hitters. Austin Arrington entered in the fifth and picked up the win for the Chiefs. He pitched three innings, allowing no runs, only one hit, walked one, and struck out two hitters. His record now stands at 1-1.
Northview improved its record to 7-2 on the season. The Chiefs will take the field again on Thursday with a home game against West Florida at 5:30.
Crimson Tide Visits White House

The BCS National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide met with President Barack Obama Monday afternoon at the White House, honoring their 13th championship and their undefeated 2009 season.
Coach Saban “asked his players if they wanted to work hard enough to beat their teammates in a drill, or if they wanted to work hard enough to be the best team in the country. And it’s pretty clear what choice they made,” Obama said. He was presented with a Crimson Tide football jersey with the number “1″.
“That’s the kind of tone this team sets, both on and off the field. It’s why these young men — and this is something I’m very proud of — had the second highest graduation rate of any team ranked in the top 25. It shows that these guys have their priorities straight. Together, they contributed more than 3,500 hours of community service that Alabama students — student athletes performed last year.”
Prior to their White House visit, the team met with a group of children from one of Washington’s roughest neighborhoods, teaching the importance of staying in school and making healthy choices.
“That’s how champions act -– in football and in life,” Obama said.
Alabama Senator Richard Shelby attended the ceremony. But conspicuously absent was White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, an Auburn graduate. Obama said Gibbs was hiding in his office.

Lady Chiefs Win T.R. Miller Tourney; Now 13-0

The Northview High School Lady Chiefs won the T.R. Miller Invitational Tournament this weekend in Brewton, extending their winning streak with a perfect 13-0 record on the season.
Friday night, the Chiefs beat the Escambia County Blue Devils of Atmore 14-0 and beat host T.R. Miller 12-6.
Saturday, Northview beat Florala 11-3, Monroe County 11-2 and Florala 24-0. In the championship game, the Lady Chiefs defeated T.R. Miller 10-6.

Northview beat Pensacola Christian 7-1 in a Friday afternoon district game. The win improves the Chiefs’ record to 6-2 on the season, 2-0 in the district.
Leading hitters for the Chiefs were Brad Lowery, 3 for 4 with three runs scored. He also had 2 RBI’s. Dabney Langhorne was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s, and a run scored. Austin Reid had a single, and a run scored. Heath Burkett was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Austin Arrington had a single for Northview.
Heath Burkett improved his record to 2-0 on the mound. He worked four innings, giving up no runs, on one hit, walked one, and struck out five hitters. Colton Sims pitched three innings in relief, giving up one run on four hits, he walked no one, and struck out five hitters
Northview 8 Escambia Academy 5 JV
The starting pitcher for the chiefs was Hunter Rigby. He pitched two innings giving up two runs and striking out four batters. Brandon Sheets pitched four innings in relief, giving up two runs and striking out nine batters. Chance Jackson pitched one inning, gave up one run, and struck out one hitter.
Chance Jackson and Ty Randolph produced hits for Northview. The JV Chiefs are now 2-0 on the year.
NHS Lady Chiefs A Pefect 7-0

The Northview Lady Chiefs improved their record to a perfect 7-0 with a big win over Pensacola High School Thursday night.
Northview beat PHS 16-1. Emily Vickery had a three run homerun. Ashley Digmon +was 3-3 with four runs scored. Northview will play in the T. R. Miller Tournament Friday night and Saturday as they look to continue their perfect season.
Former Century Resident, Current ESPN Analyst Buck Showalter To Speak

Former Century resident and current ESPN analyst Buck Showalter will speak at an upcoming Pensacola Pelicans banquet.
The Pensacola Pelicans will host their Second Ever Hot Stove Banquet on Monday, March 22 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Sanders Beach Community Center. Former MLB manager and current ESPN Baseball Tonight analyst Buck Showalter will be the featured speaker. Showalter was born in DeFuniak Springs, FL and grew up in Century, just north of Pensacola.
Showalter, who now lives in Dallas, had three different managerial stints in the majors with the New York Yankees, the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Texas Rangers. Showalter first managed the Yankees from 1992-1995 for 581 games posting a 313-268 record finishing 45 games over .500 with a .539 win/loss percentage. He was voted 1994 AL Manager of the Year after the Yankees finished first in the AL East going 70-43. Unfortunately, there would be no post-season in 1994 due to the strike. He made it to his first post-season appearance in 1995, losing the divisional series 3-2 to the Seattle Mariners.
Showalter moved on to the Arizona Diamondbacks where he managed 486 games from 1998-2000 with a 250-236 record. His best season with the Diamondbacks came in 1999 when they finished first in the NL West going 100-62 and eventually losing in the divisional series 3-1 to the NY Mets. Showalter took over as Texas Rangers skipper in 2003-2006 posting a 319-329 record in 648 games. He was selected 2004 AL Manager of the Year with the Texas Rangers going 89-73 with a .549 win/loss percentage.

The term “Hot Stove” is a long-time baseball term that refers to the time between the end of one season and the beginning of spring training. The period is when die hard passionate fans would gather around a hot stove during the winter months and discuss their favorite teams, players, games, etc. This is also the time when a multitude of player transactions occur, called the “Hot Stove League.”

JV Lady Chiefs Beat Freeport

The Northview JV softball team defeated Freeport 9-6.
Lauren McCall, Shaquanna Jones, Samantha Johnson, Ashley Mooney, Ashton Gibbs, and Kristin Guinto all had one hit for the Chiefs. Taylor Byrd and Savannah Singleton had two apiece.
Shaquanna Jones picked up the win raising her record to fiyr wins and no losses. Northview’s JV record is now 5-0. The next JV game will be at 4 p.m. on March 11th at Northview against the Baker Gators.
Northview Splits Two Against Pensacola, Washington

The Northview Chiefs split two games Saturday, beating Washington but losing to Pensacola High.
Northview 3 Washington 1
Northview beat Washington 3-1 in Pensacola Saturday in a non-district game.
Winning pitcher for the Chiefs was Austin Reid, pitching seven and striking out eight.
Bratt Lowery was 1-2 for Northview with two runs; Austin Arrington was 1-3 with a run. Dabney Langhorne was 1-2, as Dakota Stuckey went 1-2 with an RBI. Austin Reid was 1-3.
Pensacola 8 Northview 2
Northview fell to Pensacola High School Saturday, 8-2.
Brad Lowery was 1-4, and Austin Reid was 1-2 for the Chiefs. Austin Arrington pitched four for NHS, allowing six hits and striking out three.
Pensacola’s win came from a strong fifth inning, scoring six.
Northview Lady Chiefs, JV Lady Chiefs Remain Undefeated

The Northview Lady Chiefs improved to a perfect 5-0 Thursday as they shutout Freeport in Bratt.
Northview slammed Freeport 14-0.
Ashley Digmon was 3-2 with three RBI’s, and Shawna Montgomery had two RBI’s as she went 2-4. Misty Doran had four RBI’s, while Emily Vickery had one. Kolbi Cobb also had an RBI.
Doran pitched five for Northview with nine strikeouts.
The Chiefs hit their way to an easy win, leading 7-0 at the end of the first inning and kept on going with two in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth.
The Lady Chiefs will be take on Freeport again Friday night with a road trip.
Northview 2 Freeport 1 (JV)
The JV Lady Chiefs softball team defeated Freeport Tuesday afternoon by a score of 2-1.
Northview was led by Shaquanna Jones who pitched a no-hitter for five innings allowing only one run and striking out eight Freeport batters.
Lauren McCall and Taylor Byrd both scored in the bottom of the first inning for the only Northview runs. Shaquanna Jones and Morgan Payne had hits for the Lady Chiefs. With this victory the Northview Lady Chiefs are now 4-0 for the season. The next game for the JV is at Freeport Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.

The Northview Chiefs beat Pensacola Christian 13-1 Tuesday night for a district win.
Northview (4-1, 1-0) scored 13 runs on 9 hits, and committed one error. Northview scored three in the first, three in the second, four in the third, and three in the fourth.
Leading hitters for the Chiefs were Austin Arrington, who was 2 for 4, 2 runs scored, an RBI, and a triple. Dabney Langhorne was 2 for 3, including 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI’s. Dakota Stuckey was 2 for 2, one run scored, 2 RBI’s, and one double. Austin Reid was 1 for 1 with 2 RBI’s. Aaron Chancery scored 2 runs for the Chiefs. Colton Sims was 1 for 1 with a run scored. Tyler Brooks was 1 for 1 with an RBI.
Brad Lowery pitched a five inning no-hitter for Northview. During five innings, Lower gave up one run, no hits, walked two, and struck out 12 hitters.

The junior varsity Northview Chiefs beat Pensacola Christian 10-0 Tuesday afternoon.
The Chiefs scored three in the first, three in the third, two in the fourth, and two in the fifth to win in five innings at Northview.
Hunter Rigby was 1 for 4 with two runs scored. Ty Randolph had one hit and scored a run. Tyler Hester had one single and two runs scored. Brian Sanders had a single and a run scored. Reid Bell had two hits and scored two runs. Harold Harrison scored a run. Chance Jackson had one hit and scored a run.
Reid Bell was the winning pitcher for the Chiefs. Chance Jackson and Hunter Rigby pitched relief. l. The JV Chiefs are 1-0 on the year.

The Northview Lady Chiefs remain undefeated after a 16-0 non-district win over Escambia County High School of Atmore Tuesday
The Chiefs took an early lead 4-0 at the end of the first inning and expanded their margin to 11-0 by the end of the second.
Amber McMillan pitched five for the Chiefs, allowing just one hit and striking out five.
Northview 17 Escambia County 2 (JV Girls)
The junior varsityLady Chiefs beat Escambia County High School of Atmore Tuesday, 17-2.
Taylor Byrd, Tori Reid, Samantha Johnson, and Lauren McCall led the Lady Chiefs on offense. Taylor Byrd picked up the win pitching three innings and striking out five. With the win, the JV Lady Chiefs are 3-0. The next game for the Lady Chiefs is Thursday against Freeport at NHS beginning at 4:00 p.m.
