Ernest Ward Beats Uriah

The Ernest Ward Middle School Eagles beat Uriah Tuesday night 44-28 to remain undefeated.

The Eagles will take their perfect 4-0 record on the road to Canoe, Alabama, next Tuesday at 6 p.m. when they take on Escambia Academy. They will return home on October 5 for a rematch with Uriah.

High School Volleyball: Flomaton Defeats Northview

The Northview Lady Chiefs fell to the Flomaton  Lady Canes Monday at the varsity and junior varsity level.

Varsity

The varsity Chiefs dropped three games to Flomaton, 24-26, 20-25, 15-25.

“Tonight’s game wasn’t what we were hoping it would be.  We are still working on consistency in our play.  We need to continue to work on our serving and serve receive.  Once those two are fixed, I believe we will see a different ending in our games,” NHS Head Coach Betty Heaton said.

Senior Shawna Montgomery had a dozen kills, three aces, six blocks and four digs for the Lady Chiefs. Kara Hardin, a senior, added three aces and three digs, while sophomore Morgan Payne had three kills, two digs and a block.

The  Lady Chiefs are 3-9 overall, 2-1 in district play. Northview will play their first regular season home games Thursday against Freeport. The junior varsity will take to the court at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6 p.m.

Junior Varsity

Flomaton defeated Northview in two junior varsity games, 18-25, 17-25.

Freshman Madison Arrington had one ace, one kill and two aces. Lana Clayton added three kills and four assists for the Lady Chiefs.

The JV Lady Chiefs are 1-6.

Dig Pink And Help Beat Cancer With Northview, Flomaton

The Northview Chiefs and the Flomaton Hurricanes will meet on the volleyball court later this month in Bratt in the area’s first ever Dig Pink game.

“Dig Pink is an organization for breast cancer awareness through volleyball.  Our girls will be working hard at raising money for the organization and playing a game in honor of survivors and those whom have past away,” said Barbara Luker, assistant Northview volleyball coach. “The volleyball team will be ‘decked’ out in pink for the game and has plans to host a hospitality room for survivors that attend the game.  We also are going to try to ‘pink out’ our gym for the game.”

The Dig Pink games will take place on Tuesday, September 28, with the Flomaton and Northview 9th grade teams playing at 4:30, the junior varsity at 5:30 and the varsity at 6:30 in the Northview High School gym.

The Dig Pink website allows individuals to donate to the breast cancer cause. In addition, Northview is seeking monetary and item donations for the hospitality room. For more information, email BLuker@escambia.k12.fl.us or BHeaton@escambia.k12.fl.us

Northview High School’s boy’s cross country team placed first and the girl’s team placed second at a four-team meet Thursday afternoon in Bratt.

Northview High, Baker High, Central High and Escambia Academy took place in the cross country event, which follows a 5K route around the school campus.

The first place girl’s team was Baker High School, followed by Northview in second place. The NHS boy’s team placed first, followed by Central High School in second and Baker third.

Lady Chiefs Fall To Baker (With Varsity, JV Photo Galleries)

Varsity

The NHS varsity fell to Baker in four games — 21-25, 25-23, 21-25, 23-25 — on the road in Baker.

“We played with the most heart and effort I have ever seen.  However, we are still needing to work on our serve receive and serving.  Once we get those two things up to the play that we did tonight we will really have the season we want to have,” Northview Head Coach Betty Heaton said.

Senior Shawna Montgomery paced the Chiefs with nine kills, three aces, 10 blocks and five digs, while junior Raylin Spence contributed nine assists, one ace, three blocks, one kill and five digs. Sophomore Misty Doran had one assist, seven kills and eight blocks; and Ashley Digmon added nine assists, three aces, three digs and three blocks.

The Northview varsity squad will be in action again on Friday and Saturday in the Spanish Fort Varsity Tournament. Flomaton will host the varsity and JV Lady Chiefs

Junior Varsity

The Northview Junior Varsity team fell to Baker in three games, 25-27, 25-10, 6-15.

Rebecca Masaitis had one dig and an assist for the Lady Chiefs, while Madison Arrington added four assists and three aces.

“We really need to work on making a full effort for every ball and our communication.  The girls are doing a good job of trying to get three touches on the ball before sending it back over the net,” Heaton said the JV squad.

Jay Cross Country Girls Win First Meet

The Jay High School Girls Cross Country Team placed first in their first meet of 2010 against Gulf Breeze, Pace, Navarre and Central high schools. Mixed Beginnings: Ernest Ward Opens Volleyball Season (With Photo Gallery)

The Ernest Ward Middle School volleyball team opened their season with a win Monday over Flomaton. On Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Eagles fell to the Escambia Academy Cougars.

Monday afternoon, EWMS took a double header from the Flomaton Hurricanes, winning both sets 25-13, 21-25, 15-7 and 25-6, 25-10 and 15-4. Tuesday afternoon, EWMS dropped a double header to Escambia Academy,  10-25, 23-25 and 25-22, 15-25 and 16-18.

The Ernest Ward Lady Eagles’ short season wraps up with games Monday, September 20 at Ernest Ward and Thursday, September 23 at Escambia Academy. Games begin at 4:30.
