Northview Remains Undefeated With Homecoming Win (With Photo Gallery)

October 9, 2010

The Northview Chiefs remained undefeated with a Friday night homecoming 35-14 win over Holmes County of Bonifay.

“I was very proud of the way we started; we came out and moved the football,” said Northview Head Coach Sid Wheatley. “The defense I thought played extremely well.”

The Chiefs wasted no time in showing the Blue Devils who is boss in Bratt; Northview’s Roderick Woods was in on a two-yard touchdown run with 8:48 remaining in the first quarter to give the Chiefs a 7-0 lead.

In the second quarter, a Brandon Sheets to Dustin Yuhasz pass gained 63-yards to setup a seven-yard touchdown run from La’Mikal Kyles a couple of plays later. Lance Bushaw’s kick was dead-on through the uprights, giving Northview a 14-0 advantage.

With 4:41 on the clock in the half, Montaio Mitchell had a five-yard touchdown to put the Chiefs up 21-0. Later in the second, Sheets hit Woods witha 69-yard pass to put the Chiefs back deep in Blue Devil territory. Then, with 1:23 before halftime, the Chiefs’ Levi Gideons made a one-yard dive for the end zone. Northview was up 28-0 before the Tribal Beat hit the field for their Tribute to the Beatles halftime show.

Holmes County scored in the third, 28-7. Then, less than a minute into the fourth quarter, a 17-yard  quarterback scramble by Brandon Sheets and a good kick from Bushaw made it 35-7.

With an even five minutes to go in the game, Holmes County managed another touchdown, 35-14.

“We made some adjustments with our linebackers, and we started to get a little bit of pass rush,” Wheatley said. “We broke on the ball and we played the ball in the secondary. And I was so glad to see that from the previous week at Baker where we struggled a little back there. I thought we played the ball well and took advantage of a short field a couple of times.”

“We had a couple of mistakes in the second half. We’ve got to correct some penalties and other issues like that, but overall I thought it was a tremendous win for us,” Wheatley said.

The Chiefs (5-0, 4-0) will be on the road next week against Freeport (4-1, 4-0).
