NHS Boys Take 1st, Girls Take 2nd At Baker Track Meet

The Northview High School Boys Track  Team took first place  at a meet in Baker this week, defeating last year’s 1A district champs Baker along with Central, Rocky Bayou, Freeport, and W.S. Neal.  The Northview Girls Trace Team took second place overall.

NHS Varsity Softball Now 8-0; Jay JV Goes 10-0; Other Area Scores

Seasons remained perfect Tuesday in Bratt as the Northview Lady Chiefs hosted the Royals of Jay.

SOFTBALL

–Northview 3, Jay 2

In varsity softball, the Northview Lady Chiefs beat the Jay Lady Royals 3-2 in a hard-fought district battle Tuesday evening in Bratt. With the win, the Lady Chief’s improved to 8-0 on the season.

–Jay 7, Northview 6 (JV)

In junior varsity softball action, the Jay Lady Royals beat the JV Lady Chiefs 7-6  Tuesday afternoon in Bratt. The JV Lady Royals improved to 10-0 on the season.

– Tate 5, Navarre 4

Amy Waters went 3-3 for the Tate Lady Aggies as they beat Navarre 5-4 Tuesday. Bailey Burk and Kaylan Rowell were 1-3 for tATE.

BASEBALL

–Pace 7-6 Tate

David Moorhead hit a three-run homer in the third for the Tate Aggies for a 4-3 lead. But the Pace Patriots came out on top against the Tate Aggies Tuesday, 7-6. JT Grenat was 2-2 with a homer and two RBIs.

–Jay 5, Flomaton 3

The Jay Royals beat the Flomaton Hurricanes in Flomaton Tuesday, 5-3. Tate Upton had two hits for the Royals at Hurricane Park. Dalton Edwards pitched the win for the Royals, giving up six hits and striking out eight. The Royals are now 6-2.

Gentle Giant: Tate Aggies Mourn Loss Of Coach

March 10, 2013

The Tate Aggies are mourning the loss of one of their own today.

Branden Penegar, 20, passed away Saturday. A 2011 graduate of Tate, he was an assistant coach for the freshman Aggies’ football program and varsity tennis team. He was know to his players as the “Gentle Giant”. Penegar was a member of the Tate High School Student Hall of Fame.

“Coach Penegar, we all love you and words simply can not express how you will be missed,” a tribute on the front page of TateFootball.com read Saturday night. “God’s football team has one heck of a good guy now.”

Penegar was a active member of the Gonzalez United Methodist Church and youth program.

He is survived by Elbert and Tammie Penegar, brother Tyler and numerous other family members  and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Chapel North at 1000 South Highway 29 in Cantonment. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 14 at 12:30 p.m. at the Gonzalez Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Cottage Hill Baptist Cemetery at 230 Williams Ditch Road in Cantonment.

Lady Aggies Go 3-1 In North Florida Classic

The Tate Lady Aggies traveled to Tallahassee this weekend to play in the North Florida Classic hosted by Chiles High School.  Tate recorded a record of 3 wins and one loss.  Their only loss came on their first game against Wakulla (3-2).   The Lady Aggies rallied with 3 wins against Canterbury (St. Petersburg), Fort Walton Beach, and Godby High Schools.  Tate will be in action with three district games this week against Navarre, Escambia and Pensacola High.

The Northview Lady Chiefs remained undefeated after a 4-3 win over the Baker Lady Gators Friday night in Bratt. The Lady Chiefs improved to 7-0 on the season. The Lady Chiefs will host Jay on Tuesday.

All Star Basketball: Escambia County’s West Beats East

March 9, 2013

It was a battle of the All-Stars as the best of the best from Escambia County on the West team battled an East Team from Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties in both boys and girls basketball.

In girls action, Escambia’s best on the West team defeated the East 71-64 at Pensacola State College.

In boys action, the West, with players from Escambia County, beat the East 89-76.

Players for the West teams, with North Escambia area schools in bold, were:
