Liberty County Tops Northview (With Photo Gallery)

Liberty County beat the Northview Chiefs 37-14 Friday night, which was homecoming for the Chiefs.
Liberty County intercepted a Northview pass two plays into the first quarter and were held to just a field goal by the Northview defense. The Chiefs answered to make it 7-3 at the half.
“It was a good ballgame at halftime,” Northview Coach Sid Wheatley said. “We played really good defense and a good passing game. They made some adjustments and came back and controlled the game in the second half. They got up by two touchdowns and we cut it to one….but it went downhill for us fast.”
Liberty County went on for the win 37-14.
“You’ve got to give them credit. They made those big plays that you can not give up and are back-breakers in a competitive game.”
The Chiefs will travel to Jay next Friday night for their first of just two district games of the regular season. The Chiefs are in a three-team District 1A with Jay and Baker.
“Win a district game next week and you are in the playoffs. These kids are going to have to regroup, and they are going to have to come back. We’ve got to have a really, really good week and practice,” he said . “We’ve got to get some things fixed.”

Tate Beats Pace (With Photo Gallery)

The Tate Aggies beat the Pace Patriots 48-28 Friday night in what was called the “Lindsey Bowl” by many.
Tate High and head coach Jay Lindsey traveled to Pace to take on his father, Mickey Lindsey — one of just a handful of high school games in Florida history to match a son against his father in the head coaching position.
The Aggies (5-1) will head over to Escambia High School next Friday to take on Gators and 7:30 p.m.

Ernest Ward Rolls To 42-22 Win Over W.S. Neal

The Ernest Ward Middle School Eagles defeated W.S. Neal Middle Thursday night 42-22. With win, Ernest Ward improves to a perfect 7-0 on the season.
EWMS will look to make it a perfect season next Thursday at 6 p.m. as they take on Escambia County Middle School of Atmore at the Escambia County High School stadium.

Free Hunter Safety Class Offered In Molino

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is offering a free hunter safety courses in Molino next month.
The class will be held at the Molino Community Center, 6450 Hwy. 95A, Molino. Instruction is from 6 to 10 p.m. October 15. The range portion of the class will be October 17 from 7 to 10 a.m. Directions to the range will be handed out in class.
For the Internet-completion courses, students must complete the Internet course before coming to class and bring a copy of the final report from the online portion of the course. The final report form does not have to be notarized.
An adult must accompany children under the age of 16 at all times. Students should bring a pencil and paper with them to take notes.
Anyone born on or after June 1, 1975, must pass an approved hunter safety course and have a hunting license to hunt alone (unsupervised). The FWC course satisfies hunter-safety training requirements for all other states and Canadian provinces.
People interested in attending these courses can register online and obtain information about future hunter safety classes at MyFWC.com/HunterSafety or by calling Hunter Safety Coordinator Will Burnett at the FWC’s regional office in Panama City at (850) 265-3676.
West Florida Tops Northview

The West Florida Lady Jaguars defeated the Northview Chiefs Tuesday in high school volleyball action.
In varsity play, West Florida topped Northview 27-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18. In junior varsity play, West Florida beat Northview 25-16, 25-9.

Jay Peanut Festival Draws Thousands (With Two Photo Galleries)

The annual Jay Peanut Festival attracted thousands to the Gabbert Farm Saturday and Sunday.
For more than 20 years, The Jay Peanut Festival at the Gabbert Farm has been a fall tradition on the Gulf Coast, showcasing the history, agriculture, food and fun of Santa Rosa County. What started as a chance for local kids and farmers to show off their best of the season has become an annual event covering 15 acres and drawing about 70,000 people to the Gabbert farm over two days.
The event included tours of the 1930s Farm Museum, food booths, dozens of arts and crafts vendors, pony rides, games and fun. The Jay Peanut Festival was also a chance to try all varieties of peanuts – boiled, green, fried, candied and more.

Tate Grad Racks Up Career High Game Rushing Yards For Wofford

Tate graduate Lorenzo Long had a career-high 187 yards rushing and a touchdown Saturday was the Wofford College football team beat Mercer University 34-33 in overtime.
Long, now a junior at the South Carolina school, ran for first downs to reach the red zone in the fist quarter, while in the second quarter had a run fall short on fourth-and-one before Wofford turned the ball over on downs.
Wofford used a 60-yard run by Long to set up a 27-yard field goal attempt that was blocked to end the first half.
An interception by the Terriers was dropped and Mercer went on to score on a two-yard touchdown run to make it a 20-17 game with 36 seconds left in the third quarter. Wofford wasted little time in responding, as Long went 53-yards up the middle for a touchdown. The Terriers had a 27-17 lead with 14:28 on the clock in the fourth quarter.
Of Long’s career-high 187 yards rushing n a game, 121 came in the first half before a crowd of 10,489 at Mercer University in Macon, GA. It was his first 100-yard game this season and the sixth of his career.
Long, a 2013 Tate graduate, had 3,227 rushing yards on 423 carries, 37 touchdowns, and 3,826 all-purpose yards while in high school.
Tate Earns District Win Over Washington (With Photo Gallery)

The Tate Aggies won their first district game Friday night as they powered past the Washington Wildcast 38-21.
Washington took the lead 7-0 with 8:43 to go in the fist quarter at Pete Gindl Stadium in Cantonment following a 16-yard touchdown dash. A 57-yard drive ended for Tate with 5:23 to go in the first with a two-yard quarterback keeper from Sawyer Smith. Alonte Thompson was in on the two-point conversion to put the Aggies up 8-7.
Jake Henry hit paydirt from 34-yards out and, along with a good kick from Evan Legassey, the Aggies were up 15-7 with 37 seconds on the clock in the first.
Tate expanded their advantage to 22-7 with 8:28 to go in the second quarter on a touchdown dash from Alondo Thompkins. The Wildcats answered, with the score 22-13 Tate at the half.
The Aggies scored again with 7:50 in the third, with Thompkins from a couple of yards out. Tate missed a later field goal attempt, and Washington pulled within one TD, 29-21 with 9:30 to go in the ballgame.
Thompkins scored again in the fourth for the Aggies on a 49-yard run to put Tate on top 35-21. Then, with 4:08 in the ballgame, Legassey chipped in a 35-yard field goal for the final score 38-21.
The Tate Aggies (4-1, 1-0)) will take the short drive across the river to Pace next Friday night to take on the Patiots at 7:30 p.m.
