Tate 12, Escambia 0

The Tate Aggies beat the Escambia Gators Thursday 12-0.

The Aggies never trailed after a three run second. The Aggies added another four runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth for the win.

Jake Davis struck out six for the Aggies in five innings of shutout ball, allowing just four hits.

Northview JV 8, West Florida freshmen 4

The Northview JV baseball team defeated the West Florida freshman team tonight, 8-4.

The Jaguars scored first to take a 1-0 lead, but the Chiefs scored 4 runs in the 2nd and 2 runs in the 3rd to take a 6-1 lead. The Jaguars cut the lead to 6-3 in the top of the 4th inning, but the Chiefs responded with two runs of their own to go up 8-3. West Florida added one more run in the top of the 5th.

Leading hitters for the Chiefs were Jackson Moore (2-3, 3B, 2 RBI), Sam Stott (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 run), John Chivington (2-3, 1 run), Heath Sheldt (2-3, 1 run), MJ Jones (1-3, 1 RBI, 1 run), Seth Killam (1-2, 1 RBI), Cade Allen (1-2, 1 run) and Jason Fischer (1-2, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 run). Alex McMinn scored 2 runs for the Chiefs.

Seth Killam earned the win on the mound, throwing a complete 5 innings, striking out 9 batters while allowing 7 hits.

The Northview JV baseball team defeated the West Florida freshman team tonight, 8-4.

The Jaguars scored first to take a 1-0 lead, but the Chiefs scored 4 runs in the 2nd and 2 runs in the 3rd to take a 6-1 lead. SOFTBALL

Tate 15, Escambia 3

The Tate Aggies beat Escambia 15-3 Thursday night.

Savannah Rowell pitched the win for the Aggies in seven innings, allowing just three runs, four hits and striking out 12. At the plate, Rowell  also delivered a grand slam for the Aggies.

Tate hitters – Hannah Brown 2-2, RBI, run; Savannah Rowell 2-4, grand slam, 5 RBIs; S. Ulrich HR, RBI.

Baker 3, Northview 2

The Baker Gators came out on top of the Northview Chiefs in Baker 3-2.

Batting for the Chiefs: Laurie Purdy: 3-3 with 3 singles and 1 RBI. Tori Herrington: 1-4 with a single and a run. Aubree Love: 1-4 with a double and a run. Lydia Smith: 1-3 with a single and a stolen base. Daphne Young: 1-2 with a single and a walk. Brittany McLemore: 0-3with an RBI.

The Chiefs will host Chipley Friday night at 5:00.

Cantonment Opening Day Postponed

March 11, 2016

UPDATE: Due to weather, Opening Day has been postponed until April 2.

Baseball returns Saturday to the Cantonment Sportsplex after a three year absence. Opening Day is Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.

Everyone in Cantonment and surround areas are invited to attend for a day full of fun activities and baseball.

Additional activities include a dunking booth, bounce house and more. There were be team fundraisers, including a fish fry and pizza for lunch.

NHS Defeats Tate 7-6

March 9, 2016

The Northview JV baseball team rallied from a 4-0 deficit to defeat the Tate Aggies freshmen by a score of 7-6.

The Aggies scored 2 runs in the 1st and 2 runs in the 3rd to go ahead 4-0. The Chiefs cut the score to 4-3 heading into the 7th inning. Tate scored two runs in the top of the 7th to go ahead 6-3, but the Chiefs answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th to secure the victory.

Leading the Chiefs at the plate were Sam Stott (3-4, 2 RBI, 1 SB, 1 run), Jackson Moore (2-3, 1 RBI, game-winning run), MJ Jones (2-4, 1 run), John Chivington (1-3, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 run), Wesley Hardin (1-1, 1 RBI), Cade Allen (1-4, 1 run), Andrew Sharpless (1-3, 1 RBI) and Heath Sheldt (1-3, 1 run). Trevor Singleton drew the game winning walk in the bottom of the 7th inning with the bases loaded. Alex McMinn also scored a run for the Chiefs.

MJ Jones was the winning pitcher, throwing 2 innings, giving up 4 hits and striking out 4. Jason Fischer threw 5 innings, giving up 8 hits while striking out 3 batters.

The JV Chiefs improved to 7-1 on the season and host West Florida on Thursday at 5:00 at Northview.

Northview Softball Beats Catholic; Central Baseball Tops NHS

Central 6, Northview 1

The Northview Chiefs fell to Central 6-1 Monday night in Bratt.

The lone score for the Chiefs came on an error in the first inning.

Hitting for Northview: Quentin Sampson 1-2, 1R; Thomas Moore 1-3; Zach Payne 1-3; Jacob Dunford 1-3.

Northview’s varsity will back in action on Friday at 6:00 at South Walton, following a 4:00 JV game.

SOFTBALL

Northview 15, Catholic 5 (5 innings)

The Northview Chiefs beat Catholic in Bratt Monday evening by a run-rule score of 15-5 in five innings.

Hitting for the Chiefs: Kendall Enfinger: 3-4 with 2 singles, a triple, 2 runs and 2 RBI’s. Tori Herrington: 2-3 with a single, double, 2 runs, 3 RBI’s and a walk. Lydia Smith: 2-3 with 2 singles, 3 runs and 2 RBI’s. Hannah Ging: 2-4 with 2 singles and 2 runs. Laurie Purdy: 1-3 with a single and 3 RBI’s. Aubree Love: 1-4 with a single, a run and 2 RBI’s. Tate Shuts Out Pine Forest; Northview Dominates PCA

The Tate Aggies shut out Pine Forest 10-0 Friday night in Cantonment.

Madison Lockman pitched a one-hitter and had seven strikeouts on the way to the win. He also allowed no earned runs and had no walks.

The Aggies scored a couple of runs in both the third and fourth innings before winning on the run-rule with six runs in the sixth.

Leading hitters for the Tate Aggies were Reid Halfacre 3-5, 2 RBIs, run; Hunter NeSmith 3-4, RBI, run; Logan Blackmon 2-4, RBI; Logan McGuffey 1-3, RBI, run.

Northview 14, PCA 1

The Northview Chiefs defeated Pensacola Christian Academy by a score of 14-1 in 5 innings.

Zach Payne picked up the win, moving his record to 1-0 on the season. He pitched 5 complete innings, giving up 1 run on 1 hit, he walked 1 batter and struck out 10.

Leading hitters for the Chiefs were Alston Wiggins (2-2, 3 RBI, 2B, 1 run), Josh Neese (2-2, 2 2B, 2 runs), Thomas Moore (1-3, 3 RBI, 2B, 1 run), Roman Manning (1-2, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Quentin Sampson (1-2, 1 RBI, 3 runs), Seth Killam (1-3), Zach Holland (1-1, 1 run).

Also scoring runs for the Chiefs were Luke Ward (1 run), Devin Stabler (1 run), Zach Payne (1 run), and Roquan Wiggins (1 run).

The Chiefs improve to 4-1 and host Central on Monday night, March 7 at 6:00 p.m.

Northview 17, PCA 0 (JV)

The Northview JV team defeated PCA JV 17-0 in 5 innings on Friday.

Jackson Moore was the winning pitcher, throwing 5 innings, giving up 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 3 batters.

Leading hitters for the Chiefs were Heath Sheldt (3-3, 3 runs), John Chivington (1-1, 2B, 3 runs), Wesley Hardin (2-2, 2B), Jackson Moore (2-3), Andrew Sharpless (1-3), Sam Stott (1-3), Alex McMinn (1-2), and Trevor Singleton (1-2).

The JV Chiefs improved to 6-1 and play Tate on Tuesday night, March 8.

Northview To Visit Jay In Spring Football Game

A spring football game between 1A rivals Northview and Jay has been announced. The Northview Chiefs will travel to Jay to face the Royals on Tuesday, May 24 at 7 p.m.

The Northview Chiefs defeated Jay 7-0 during the last regular season.

West Florida 3, Tate 2

The West Florida Jaguars topped the Tate Aggies Tuesday night 3-2 at West Florida.  The Jags were led by Kris Reber hitting a triple and driving in three runs.

Tate hitters: Cole Halfacre 1-3, 2B; Logan Blackmon 1-3, 2B; Logan McGuffy 1-3, 2B; Jake Davis 1-3; Reid Halfacre 1-4; Branden Fryman 1-3.

West Florida hitters: Adam Ostergaard 2-3, Kris Reber 2-3, 3B, 3 RBIs.

Tate will play at Pine Forest at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Northview 9, Pensacola Christian 2 (JV)

The Northview JV baseball team defeated Pensacola Christian Tuesday night by a score of 9-2.

Leading hitters for the Chiefs were Seth Killam (2-3, 2B, 2 runs), Trevor Singleton (2-2, run), John Chivington (1-1, 2 runs), Jackson Moore (1-2, 2B), and Andrew Sharpless (1-2, run). Also scoring runs for the Chiefs were Cade Allen, Heath Sheldt and Wesley Hardin.

Cade Allen earned the win on the mound, throwing four innings while striking out three batters. Trevor Singleton threw two innings, striking out four batters.

The Chiefs improved to 5-1 on the season. Both the JV and varsity play at home this Friday against Pensacola Christian.

SOFTBALL

Freeport 7, Northview 3

Freeport defeated the Northview Chiefs 7-3 Tuesday night in Freeport.

Tori Herrington pitched seven innings with nine strikeouts, nine hits, seven runs, two earned runs and two walks.

Aubree Love 2-4 with 2 RBI’s, Kendall Enfinger 2-4 with an RBI and a run, Hannah Ging 1-4, Tori Herrington 1-3 with a run, Daphne Young 1-3 with a run and Jamia Newton 1-3.

The Chiefs will travel to Brewton this Friday and Saturday for the TR Miller Invitational. Friday they will play Davidson at 5:15 and Blackshear at 7:45. Saturday they play Miller at 9:00. Single elimination bracket play will start at noon with the championship game scheduled at 4 p.m.

Tate 6, Pace 1

The varsity Tate Aggies defeated Pace 6-1 Tuesday night.

Jay 12, South Walton 6

The Jay Royals beat South Walton 12-6 on the road Tuesday night.

Destiny Herring picked up the win, striking out five in six innings.  Jay hitters: Mikaela Stewart 3-5, 2 runs, double; Harley Taggert 3-4, 3 runs, double, RBI; Destiny Herring 3-5, 3 RBIs; Samantha Steadham 3-5, 3 RBIs; Alyssa Baxley 2-4, RBI.

Jay will host Freeport Thursday at 6 p.m.

Here’s a look at Friday baseball and softball action from the North Escambia area:

BASEBALL

Tate 6, Milton 2

The Tate High School Aggies beat Milton 6-2 in seven innings Friday night in Cantonment.

Madison Lockman earned the win on the mound for the Aggies, allowing two runs over 4 1/3 innings. He struck out one, walked three and gave up just two hits.

Milton took an early lead 1-0 in the top of the third inning. The Aggies took the lead in the fourth inning, with Tate scoring six runs on a two run double from Reid Halfacre, an error and an RBI single from Logan Blackmon.

Tate hitters – Branden Fryman 1-2, run; Logan Blackmon 2-3, run, RBI; Reid Halfacre 1-3, 2 RBIs, run.

The West Florida Jaguars are up next for Tate (5-0) in an away game at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Northview 3, Freeport 1

The Northview Chiefs defeated the Freeport Bulldogs Friday night by a score of 3-1. The Chiefs scored one run in the second inning and two runs in the fifth inning. The Bulldogs scored their one run in the third inning.

Leading hitters for the Chiefs were Quentin Sampson (1-3), Jared Aliff (1-3, 1 run), Zach Payne (1-3), Josh Neese (1-3). Roquan Wiggins and Seth Killam scored one run each.

Daniel Mascaro pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up one run on two hits, struck out five batters and walked three. Josh Neese pitched 2 2/3, giving up no runs on one hit, striking out two hitters and walking none to pick up the win and move his record to (2-0).

The Chiefs improve to 3-1 (2-1) and host Pensacola Christian next Friday.

Northview 5, Freeport 1 (JV)

The junior varsity Chiefs defeated Freeport 5-1. Northview scored two runs in the first, one run in the second and two runs in the fourth inning. Freeport scored their one run in the first inning.

Leading hitters for the Chiefs were Cade Allen (2-3, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 run), MJ Jones (1-2, 1 SB, 1 run), John Chivington (1-2, 1 SB), Jackson Moore (1-3), Trevor Singleton (1-2), Wesley Hardin (1-2, 1 RBI), and Alex McMinn (1-3, 1 run). Heath Sheldt scored one run.

Jason Fischer picked up the win, throwing five innings, giving up only one run while striking out eight batters.

The JV Chiefs improve to 4-1 on the season.

SOFTBALL

Northview 3, Freeport 0

The Northview varsity softball team shutout the Freeport bulldogs 3-0 Friday night at Northview.

Kendall Enfinger was 2-4 with an RBI, Daphne Young was 1-3 with a two RBI singles, Jamia Newton went 1-3 with an extra base double and a run, Brittany McLemore was 1-3 with a run, Hannah Ging was 1-4, Laurie Purdy was 1-4 and Lydia Smith also scored a run.

Tori Herrington pitched the win in seven innings with seven strikeouts, no0 walks, no runs and gave up only two hits. She also had two assists defensively.

Defensively Young had nine putouts, Enfinger had five assists, McLemore had three assists and a putout and Newton added two putouts.

The Chiefs’ Chiefs next game will be Monday on the road at South Walton at 6:00.

Jay 14, Baker 4

Jay powered past Baker in girls softball action Friday at Jay. The Lady Royals took a strong 6-0 lead in the first inning, and added one in the third, three in fourth and another four in the fifth inning.

Destiny Herring earned the win for the Royals. She was one the mound for five with two errors, allowing six hits walking two and striking out three.

Leading hitters for Jay — Kolby Bray 3-3 2 R, 4 RBIs, 2B; Destiny Herring 2-4 2 R, 3 RBIs, HR; Harley Taggart 3-4 3 R, 2B; Samantha Steadham 2-3 3R; Avery Jackson 3-4 3 R, 2 RBIs.

Up next for the Jay Royals (4-1, 2-0) is a trip to South Walton Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Tate 8, Crestview 0

The Tate Aggies beat Crestview Thursday night in Cantonment, 8-0. All eight of Tate’s points came in the second inning.

Jake Davis pitched five innings for Tate, allowing no runs and just three hits and striking out four.

Tate hitters were: josh Kea 1-2, 3 RBI, 2 R; Logan Blackmon 1-2, RBI, R; Hunter NeSmith 1-2, 2 RBI, R; Brandon Fryman 1-4; Mason Land 2-2, RBI, R.

The Tate Aggies  will host Milton on Friday at 6 p.m.

Northview 5, Baker 3

Northview 10, Baker 3 (JV)

The Northview Chiefs took two from Baker Thursday, with the varsity winning 5-3 and the JV topping the Gators 10-3.

SOFTBALL

Northview 6, Catholic 1

The Northview Chiefs beat Catholic 6-1 Thursday night. Northview’s Tori Herrington struck out 14 Crusaders for the Northview win. Herrington pitched seven, allowing one hit, no walks and no earned runs. At bat, she was 1-4 with a triple and a run.

Daphne Young went 3-3 with a run. Aubree Love was 1-4 with 2 RBI’s. Laurie Purdy was 1-4 with an RBI.  Kendall Enfinger went 1-4 and Lydia Smith was 1-3.

Northview will host Freeport Friday night with the JV playing at 4:00 and varsity at 6:00.
