FHSAA Approves Playoff Series Changes For 1A-4A Teams

The Florida High School Athletic Association’s board of directors has unanimously approved a playoff change for 1A-4A high school football, including Northview and Jay High schools.
Six teams will now qualify for state series play from each region in class 1A-4A beginning with the 2018 season.
The first and second seeds will receive a bye to the second round. In the first round, the third seed team will host the sixth seed and the fourth seed will host the fifth seed.
Previously four teams from each region qualify for the playoffs. There was no district play, forcing teams to often play much tougher schedules. This change will allow the top 50 percent of each region to have a real playoff. Allowing the third and fourth seed to teams to host a playoff game will also earn more revenue for those schools.
The bye week before the state championships will eliminated for 1A-4A with the additional of the extra playoff round.

Volleyball: Ernest Ward Middle Defeats Beulah Academy Of Science (With Photo Gallery)

The Ernest Ward Middle School varsity and JV volleyball games both improved to 2-0 Monday night with wins over the Beulah Academy of Science Bobcats.
The Ernest Ward varsity Eagles beat Beulah in two sets (25-13, 25-20) and the JV Eagles topped the Bobcats in two (25-17, 25-14).
Last Thursday, Ernest Ward’s varsity beat Ferry Pass 25-22, 25-21. The JV EWMS Eagles defeated Ferry Pass 25-18, 25-18.
On Thursday, Ransom Middle will travel to Ernest Ward, and Beulah will be at Woodham. JV games begin at 5:30 and varsity takes the court at 6:15 p.m.

Tate Cheerleaders Take Regionals, Advance To State Finals

The Tate High Varsity Cheerleaders took regionals last weekend and advance to the state finals with a former Aggie cheerleader as coach.
They placed first in their their division in the Region 1 FHSAA Cheeer Competition near Jacksonville. The first place finish earns them a direct bid to the state finals February 4 at the University of Florida.
The squad is coach by first-year coach and Tate graduate Morgan White, who spent four years as an Aggie cheerleader.
“I’m so proud of the work these athletes have shown this year. We’ve had many injuries and hurdles they’ve had to endure, and their resiliency and love for their school and community continue to push these athletes forward. I feel incredibly blessed to be back at Tate High School and part of this journey with them,” White said.

Four Northview Weight Lifters Earn Medals At Regionals

Registration Going On At Molino, NWE, Century Ballparks

Registration is underway at the Century Little League and Northwest Escambia Bradberry Park.
Century Little League
Registration for the Century Little League 2018 baseball and softball season will be held at Showalter Park in Century as follows:
Saturday January 27, 9 a.m. – noon
Thursday February 1, 6-8 p.m.
Saturday February 3, 9 a.m. – noon
The registration fee is $50 for the first child, $45 for each additional sibling. Teams are available for ages 4 and up. A birth certificate copy is needed for sign-up.

Baker Outpaces Northview (With Gallery), Tate Tops Milton

The Northview Chiefs lost to the Baker Gators 71-60 Thursday afternoon in Bratt.
The Gators only outscored the Chiefs by two to hold an 18-16 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Baker outpaced Northview in the second to take a 40-27 by the half. Baker scored a basket more than Northview in the third, while Northview outscored Baker by four in the fourth.
Up next, the Northview Chiefs varsity will host Pensacola Christian Academy at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday and Freeport next Thursday at 6:15 p.m. The JV boys will tipoff at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and 5 p.m. Thursday.
Tate 68, Milton 54
The Tate Aggies beat the Milton Panthers 68-54 Thursday in Cantonment.
The Aggies to a 15-9 lead by the end of the first quarter and were up 33-26 by halftime. Tate outscored Milton by seven in the third, while both teams scored 23 points each in the fourth.
The Tate Aggies (10-6, 4-0) were led by Love Bettis with 21 points.
The Tate Aggies will travel to Fort Walton to take on Choctawhatchee High School at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Northview Weightlifting Girls Move On To Regionals
