Jay Weightlifters Advance To Regionals

Six Jay High School girls weightlifters advanced to the regional finals this week at Baker.
Royals earning advancement at last week’s district meet at Baker, along with their weight class and district rank, were:
Carsen Arrant — 119 lb.class, 2nd
Ella Nelson — 101 lb. class, 2nd
Carlyn Watson — 154 lb. class, 3rd
Hailey Grenier — 154 lb. class, 4th
Bailey Lopez – 110 lb.class, 5th
Alexa Pabo – 110 lb.class, 6h

Century Cross Country Classic 5K This Saturday
January 23, 2019
The Century Chamber of Commerce will present the “Century Cross Country Classic 5K” this Saturday. Runners and walkers will lace up their shoes and run and walk over a mixture of grass, gravel, dirt, and pavement through Anthony Pleasant and Showalter parks in Century.
The 5K will being at 8 a.m. with a half mile fun run/walk to follow at about 9:15 a.m. Race day registration is $25 and begins at 6:30 a.m. at Anthony Pleasant Park on East Highway 4. For a printable registration form, click here.
Awards will be presented in 34 different age groups, and t-shirts will be given to the first 50 registered runners and walkers.
“It will be fun and family-friendly. I’m looking forward to helping with the event. It’s the perfect setting for a community cross country race and it’s safer because it’s not being conducted on a city street. Anthony Pleasant and Buck Showalter are two Century sports icons. They have given notoriety to Century in professional sports. How fitting that we exercise through the parks named after them. Come run and walk with us,” Matt Dobson, race director, said.

— Milkavion White lead the Century Heat in scoring with six points as the Heat came up short against the Rockets in Atmore on Tuesday.

Tate Varsity Cheerleaders Take Regionals, Advance To State Finals

The Tate High School varsity cheerleaders are headed to state after winning regionals on Saturday.
The Aggie cheerleaders, for the second year, won the Florida High School Athletic Association Region 1 Small Coed Championship. . The first place finish earns them a direct bid to the state finals.
The squad is coach by second-year coach and Tate graduate Morgan White, who spent four years as an Aggie cheerleader.

– The game was tied 72 all with just 11 seconds to go Thursday night at Tate High School. Love Bettis led the Tate Aggies with 37 points.

– It was the 17th straight win for Jay’s girls team. Carsyn Seib led the Royals with 18, and Kaitlin Gafford led the Chiefs with 11 points.
Century Heat Beats The Pelicans In Atmore

The Century Heat youth basketball team defeated the Pelicans in Atmore 9-6.
Jakel Phifer, Milkavion White, Keyunta Ewing, Marquise Banks, and TyCoren Burt lead the Century Heat in the win.

Tate Aggies Beat Gulf Breeze In Important District Game
January 16, 2019
The Tate Aggies defeated the Gulf Breeze Dolphins 86-79 Tuesday night.
Before the game, a memorial for player Sean Banks and his sister was held. Click here for details and photos.
Junior Guard Love Bettis led the scoring for the Aggies with 43 points. With the win, the Aggies improved to 12-5, 4-0 in the district.
