Blue Wahoos Ink New Lease For Another 10 Years In Pensacola

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos plan to stick around and call Pensacola home for the next decade.
The Wahoos have renewed their lease with the City of Pensacola for two five year terms for the Community Maritime Park.
“The Pensacola Blue Wahoos are such an integral part of Community Maritime Park and downtown Pensacola, and I’m thrilled that they have decided to stay in Pensacola for another 10 years,” Mayor Grover Robinson said. “We are so fortunate to have Minor League Baseball here in the City of Pensacola, offering opportunities for residents and visitors of all ages to enjoy a beloved American pastime while experiencing Pensacola’s beautiful waterfront views. I look forward to enjoying many more Wahoos games over the next decade.”
“We are very appreciative to the fans that are so supportive of Blue Wahoos Stadium and our team,” team co-owner Quint Studer said. “What was uninhabitable land not too long ago is now a cornerstone in the revitalization of Pensacola. We’re grateful for the opportunity to continue to provide affordable family-friendly fun in downtown Pensacola for the next decade.”
Entering its 10th season, Blue Wahoos Stadium is widely considered one of the premier facilities in Minor League Baseball. A two-time recipient of Ballpark Digest’s Best Double-A ballpark and four-time winner of the Southern League Ballpark of the Year, Blue Wahoos Stadium has welcomed over 2,500,000 fans through its first nine baseball seasons.
Legendary Football Coach Carl Madison Inducted Into FHSAA Hall Of Fame

Legendary football coach Carl Madison was officially inducted into the Florida High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame during a ceremony Sunday night at the University of Florida.
The football field at Tate High School was recently remained “Carl Madison Field” in honor of the legendary coach that led the Aggies to a 1980 state championship and is one of the all-time winningest high school coaches in the nation.
Madison, who turned 90 in January, sits at number two on Florida’s all-time football coaching victories list with a 326-129-7 record.
In addition to winning a state title at Tate, he took the Pine Forest Eagles to two state championships in 1987 and 1988. The 1988 Eagle team was named as national champions by USA Today, and Madison earned the title of the National High School Football Coach of the Year. All in all, he coached at five different Florida High Schools including Ernest Ward, plus three out of state schools.
His football days began early at Escambia County High School in Atmore where he played tailback under Coach Herbert Barnes from 1945 to 1947, making him one of Atmore’s semifamous “Barnes Boys” with 30 straight wins. After a stint in the Army, from 1950 to 1952, Madison played college ball for Texas Tech and Troy State Teachers College in the mid-1950s.
Fresh out of college, Madison coached for four years beginning in 1957 at Ernest Ward High School in Walnut Hill. He moved to Milton High in 1961, coaching them to a state championship and 34 straight victories. He then took a coaching job at a Georgia High School, losing a state championship game in 1968.
Madison joined the coaching staff at Tate in 1971 on his way to winning that 1980 state championship. He left Tate in 1983, heading to Pensacola High for a couple of years. Then it was off to Pine Forest and those back-to-back state championships. He coached at an Albany, Georgia, school, another 10 years at Milton High and another short period at PHS during the period from 1989 until 2002.
In 2002, he took the head coach job at the small Jackson Academy in Alabama. The then 71-year old took over a team that had gone 0-10 prior to his arrival. He lost his first two games at Jackson, but he went on to win the state championship. The following year, Jackson was undefeated and won another state championship.
In 2009, Madison briefly came out of retirement to once again take to the field at Tate, this time as an offensive consultant.
Escambia Gators Top The Tate Aggies 35-0

The Escambia Gators defeated the Tate Aggies 35-0 Friday night at Emmitt Smith Field
The Gators were coming off back to back loses to Washington and a Georgia team headed into Friday night’s contest. while the Aggie were coming off three losses in a row to Gulf Breeze, West Florida and Navarre.
The Aggies (1-4) will host Pace (1-3) next Friday night back at Carl Madison Field.

Ernest Ward Middle Beats Central Baldwin (With Photo Gallery)

The Ernest Ward Middle School Eagles beat the Central Baldwin Middle School Bears 20-0 Thursday night in Walnut Hill.
The Eagles travel to Jay next Tuesday at 6 p.m. before hosting Snook on October 5.
Ernest Ward Middle School has the only middle school football team in Escambia County, Florida.

Northview Celebrates Senior Night With 3-1 Win Over Jay (With Gallery)

The Northview Lady Chiefs celebrated their seniors Thursday night before celebrating a big 3-1 win over the Jay Royals.
Northview defeated Jay 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20.
The Chiefs honored eight senior players: Nevaeh Brown, Mia Starns, Kinzey Powell, Cassie Davis, Grayson James, Taylor Levins, Kayla Dixon and Payton Gilchrist.

Baker Tops Northview By One In Overtime Thriller

The Baker Gators topped the Northview chiefs by one in an overtime thriller Thursday night.
Going for a two-point conversion win or lose, the Gators won 43-42.
The Gators jumped out to a 7-0 lead a little over three minutes into the game on a 43-yard touchdown run from Kayleb Wagner, who set a state record last week with 535 rushing yards on just 25 carries and six touchdowns against South Walton.
A couple of minutes later, Jamarkus Jefferson was in the end zone from two yards out for the Chiefs. With a good kick from Brandon Ferguson, the ballgame was in a 7-7 tie in Baker.
Wagner added a 69-yard touchdown in the first, 14-7 Baker headed into the second. Baker scored again with about nine minutes to go in the half from, you guessed it, Wagner to expand the Gators lead to 21-7 over the Chiefs.
Northview answered with a 15-yard pass from quarterback Kaden Odom to Jefferson with a great catch in the corner of the end zone, narrowing the Baker lead to 21-14 after another good Ferguson kick.
But Wagner was not done with an 11-yard TD run, before the Chiefs scored again. Baker was up by a touchdown 28-21 at the half.
Early in the third, Odom found Jefferson from 16 yards out, and Ferguson nailed the PAT to tie the game at 28-28. Baker scored again with a 62-yard run from Wagner, 35-28 Gators to round out quarter number three.
Northview tied it up 35-all in the fourth when Odom found Wyatt Scruggs, setting up an overtime showdown.
In the first overtime period, QB Odom connected with Jefferson with a 3-yard pass, and once again Ferguson put the pigskin through the uprights, 42-35 with the Chiefs on top.
On Baker’s OT possession, Brandon Moss had a 10-yard TD run and was in for the two point conversion and the Baker win.
Northview has not beat Baker in the regular season since the Chiefs’ 2012 state championship run.

Tate Lady Aggies Beat The Washington Wildcats (With Photo Galleries)

Coming off a loss Wednesday night at Pace, the Tate Lady Aggies beat the Lady Wildcats of Washington High School in three straight sets Thursday night.
Tate beat Washington 25-23, 25-21, 25-20.
On Wednesday, the Lady Aggies fell to the Patriots in Pace, 3-1. Pace won 25-16, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23.
Up next, the Lady Aggies will be at Pine Forest on Monday and at Pensacola Catholic next Tuesday.

Saturday’s UWF Argos Home Football Game Canceled
September 24, 2021
The University of West Florida’s football game that was set for Saturday at Blue Wahoos Stadium has been canceled.
UWF announced late Thursday afternoon that their opponent, Fort Lauderdale, was unable to field a team for the game.
Ticket information will be forthcoming, according to the university.
The UWF Argos will return to the field on Saturday, October 2 when they travel to Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi.

Central Defeats Northview Volleyball (With Photo Gallery)

The Central Jaguars defeated the Northview Chiefs 3-0 Tuesday evening in Bratt.
Central won 25-7, 25-19, 27-25.
Up next, the Chiefs will host the Jay Royals Thursday. Junior varsity action begins at 4 p.m. Northview’s Senior Night will take place at 5 p.m. to be immediately followed by the varsity.
