No. 1 UWF Defeats North Greenville

Top-ranked UWF compiled 443 yards of offense and scored on its first four possessions to squash North Greenville, 52-10, at Younts Stadium Saturday night.
The Argonaut defense made play after play, beginning on the first series when Shea Campbell intercepted Kaelan Riley. That led to a 8-yard Shomari Mason score a play later.
NGU marched down the field and scored eight plays later on a Dre’ Williams 7-yard run. But that excitement for the home team was short-lived as Austin Reed needed just two plays as he connected with Rodney Coates for a 69-yard strike down the middle of the field for a 14-7 lead.
The Crusaders got a 49-yard field goal to get within 14-10 but never scored again.
Reed connected with Coates and David Durden before halftime to extend the lead to 28-10 at halftime.
The second half was more of the same. After receiving the opening kickoff, UWF capped off the drive with a 30-yard Griffin Cerra field goal. Anthony Johnson, Jr. stepped in front of a Crusader receiver at the 46 and followed some blockers in front of the UWF sideline for a pick-6.
Ka’Ron Ashley hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth before Mason scampered through the Crusaders for a 57-yard score with 7:10 remaining.
Mason finished the day with a career-high 108 yards on 10 carries. It was the third 100-yard game of his career. The 57-yard rushing TD is tied for the second-longest rushing score in program history.
Reed threw for 294 yards on 21-of-33 with four touchdowns – the fourth time in five games this season he has thrown as many. Coates was his favorite target, finishing with 123 yards on six catches while being thrown to three other times.
The UWF defense finished with four sacks, three additional tackles for loss, five quarterback hurries, three pass break-ups and two interceptions. Will Breland was credited with seven tackles to lead the Argos. D’Anthony Bell and Jerquan Newton had six tackles apiece.
UWF (5-0, 2-0 Gulf South) finished with 443 yards of total offense. The Argonauts had 149 yards rushing between five running backs ands Reed.
NGU (3-3, 0-2) compiled 291 yards of total offense, with Riley throwing for 166 yards on 16-of-35. Cale Swift led the team on the ground with 43 yards on five carries. Leading rusher Williams entered the game averaging 106 yards per game but was held to 39 on 10 carries in the first half. He left late in the opening half with an injury and did not return.
After playing four road games in six weeks, UWF will return to Pensacola for home games at Blue Wahoos Stadium the next two weeks. This Saturday they will play host to No. 13 West Georgia (5-1, 3-1) at 4 p.m.

Washington Tops Tate 44-7 (With Photo Gallery)

The Washington Wildcats defeated Tate 44-7 Friday night, putting a bit of a damper on the Aggies’ homecoming festivities at Pete Gindl Stadium.
The Aggies gained about 50 yards during their opening drive to a touchdown. On a handoff from sophomore quarterback Ward O-Brien, senior Warren Henke was in to put the Aggies up early in the first quarter 7-0.
It would be Tate’s only score of the night. It was the first game for the Aggies under the leadership of interim head coach Frank “Tank” Williamson following the resignation of Jay Lindsey on Monday.
The Tate Aggies (1-6) will be on the road to take on Crestview (4-3) next Friday night.

Tate Volleyball’s Dig Pink Game Beats Fundraising Goal To Support Breast Cancer Research

Tate Aggies Volleyball beat their fundraising goal in a Dig Pink match Thursday night for the Side-Out Foundation and breast cancer research.
A final total was not immediately available, but at last count over $2,400 was raised.
The Lady Aggies also beat Pensacola High 3-1 in four sets. Tate defeated PHS 26-28, 25-21, 25-17, 25-18.

Tate Football Head Coach Jay Lindsey Resigns

Jay Lindsey has resigned as the head football coach for the Tate High School Aggies.
He submitted his letter of resignation from the coaching job on Monday, but he will remain in his physical education instructional position, the Escambia County School District said.
Lindsey was offensive coordinator for the Aggies when he was named head coach in 2015 after the resignation of Ronnie Douglas, who stepped down to spend more time on a business venture. In 2015, he led the Aggies into the 6A state semifinals. In his first two seasons, Tate was 26-10. Since moving to 7A in 2018, the Aggies have a 6-28 record.
This year, the Aggies are 1-5, having been outscored by opponents 165-23 points as of last week. Friday night, the Aggies will host Washington (3-2) for homecoming.

Top-Ranked UWF Completes Comeback, Silences Delta State

The No. 1 ranked UWF football team erased a 20-point deficit and outscored Delta State by 26 in the second half for a 39-33 win at McCool Stadium on Saturday.
In the second half, UWF (4-0, 1-0 Gulf South) outgained DSU, 276-183, and forced two turnovers, along with a pair of fourth down stops.
The Argonauts rushed for 150 yards on 25 attempts for a robust 6.0 yards per carry. Shomari Mason had 10 carries for 86 yards and 54 yards receiving with a touchdown. Ra’veion Hargrove added seven for 65 yards.
Austin Reed tossed four touchdowns for the third time this season, while shaking off a rough first half to finished with 285 yards on 13-of-31 passing.
After falling behind 7-0, Reed hit David Durden for a 90-yard touchdown on UWF’s first play from scrimmage to tie it at seven. It was the longest play from scrimmage in UWF history and the second longest behind Marvin Conley’s 98-yard interception against Mississippi College in 2017.
Delta continued to apply pressure, scoring on four of its seven first-half possessions, along with a safety to claim a 30-10 lead going into the locker room.
But the Argos came out on fire in the third quarter, needing just five plays to go 73 yards as Reed found Jared Smith for a 17-yard strike. The Statesmen kicked a field goal to go up 33-17 with 6:24 to play in the third.
From there, UWF got a Reed-to-Durden passing touchdown, a Hargrove 10-yard dive to the pylon and a Mason 9-yard receiving score to finish off the largest comeback in school history.
DSU (2-3, 1-1) dropped its third-consecutive game. Patrick Shegog completed 32-of-50 for 459 yards and two scores, along with two interceptions.
The teams combined for 202 penalty yards.
UWF extended both its overall and road winning streaks 10 and seven games, respectively. The Argonauts had 435 yards of total offense, averaging 7.8 yards on 56 plays.
UWF remains on the road next week with a game at North Greenville (3-2, 0-1). Kickoff at Younts Stadium in Tigerville, S.C. is set for 7 p.m. Eastern Time.

Northview Gets 54-13 Homecoming Win Over Jay; Jefferson And Bridges With Seven Touchdowns (With Photo Gallery)

The Northview Chiefs celebrated Homecoming 2021 with a big 54-13 win over the Jay Royals Friday night at Tommy Weaver Memorial Stadium in Bratt.
On the second play of the game, quarterback Kaden Odom found Jamarkus Jefferson for a 62-yard touchdown run, his first of four for the night. On the next possession a misguided toss from Jay quarterback Cason Burkett was intercepted by sophomore Luke Bridges, who had three total touchdowns Friday night.
About 3.5 minutes in the game, and the Chiefs were on top 13-0.
Northview linebacker Jaquez Moorer returned a Jay fumble for another touchdown, and Odom found Bridges for a 12-yard score. Northview was up 27-0 by the end of the first quarter before going on to score another 27 in the second quarter.
Grayson Shehan had two TDs for the Royals, one in the second and one as time expired.
The Northview Chiefs are off next week, while Jay will travel to Baker.
