Northview Nabs Win Over Milton; Tate Freshmen Power Past Navarre

The Northview Chiefs took an early lead and defeated the Milton Panthers 6-1 Monday night in Milton.
Jamarkus Jefferson went for five and two-thirds innings, allowing one run and three hits while striking out 11. Josh Landis and Cason Burkett closed.
Jefferson led the Chiefs at the plate, going 3-4, and Landis was 2-3. Trent Knighten, Burkett, Ethan Collier, Rustin Pope, Luke Bridges and Kaden Odom had one hit each.
Tate 13, Navarre 6 (Freshman)
The Tate Aggie Freshmen defeated Navarre 13-6
Zane Warrington surrendered two hits and one run in one inning, while striking out one. Brodie Rhodes, Kaydon Biggs, and Nathan Ozuna pitched in relief.
Trevor Land and Warrington had two hits each to led the Aggies at bat. Kaleb Posta, Taite Davis, Braydon Walker and Amir Sardar each had one hit.

Northview Flag Football Tops Escambia

Wahoos Fall To Trash Pandas 1-0 In 11 Innings

Bryan Hoeing twirled 7.1 scoreless innings and continued his dominant start to the 2022 season, but didn’t receive any run support as the Pensacola Blue Wahoos fell 1-0 to the Rocket City Trash Pandas in 11 innings on Sunday afternoon.
In the bottom of the 11th, after several missed opportunities to break through on offense, Pensacola allowed a walk-off single to Preston Palmeiro for the only run of the game.
Hoeing, who allowed only three unearned runs over 5.2 innings in his Double-A debut last Sunday, was even better his second time around. With six strikeouts and only four hits over 7.1 shutout frames, he became the first Blue Wahoos starter to record an out in the eighth inning since Jhoan Duran in 2019 and recorded the longest appearance for any starter in the Southern League this season.
Rocket City starter Coleman Crow was solid, turning in 4.0 scoreless innings before handing things off to the bullpen. Pensacola’s Paul McIntosh added two more hits to keep his league-leading batting average at .500, and Cobie Fletcher-Vance registered two hits to extend his hitting streak to eight games.
Defense continued to be a challenge for the Blue Wahoos, as Hoeing overcame two of his own throwing errors and Andrew Nardi was forced to work around a Fletcher-Vance throwing error to keep the game scoreless in the eighth. Neither team could push a run across in the 10th, and Luis Ledo (W, 1-1) stranded Pensacola’s placed runner at third base a second time in the top of the 11th. Colton Hock (L, 0-1) got one out in the bottom of the 11th before Palmeiro grounded his walk-off single to right field.
The Blue Wahoos return to action on Tuesday as they begin a six-game homestand against the Montgomery Biscuits.

Wahoos Beat Trash Pandas After Ninth Inning Rally

Griffin Conine’s two-out, two-run single in the top of the ninth inning gave the Pensacola Blue Wahoos their biggest moment of the young season on Saturday night, defeating the Rocket City Trash Pandas 10-8.
After a hit batsman and Jerar Encarnacion infield single put runners at first and third trailing 8-7, Ray-Patrick Didder beat out a game-tying infield single to bring the score to keep the game alive. Conine then grounded his go-ahead two-run single that proved to be the difference, giving Pensacola at least a split of their six-game series in North Alabama.
Blue Wahoos starter Zach McCambley fell victim to the long ball, allowing a two-run homer to Trey Cabbage in the first and a three-run homer to Zach Humphreys in the fourth. Encarnacion hit a solo homer in the fourth for Pensacola to get on the board, and Hayden Cantrelle tied for the league lead with his third home run of the year, a three-run blast in the fifth to tie the game 5-5.
The tie game wouldn’t last long, as McCambley was chased in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run double from Kevin Maitan. Josh Simpson allowed an inherited runner to score, but struck out seven batters over 2.2 hitless innings to keep the game within reach at 8-5.
Cobie Fletcher-Vance extended his team-high hitting streak to seven games with RBI singles in the sixth and eighth innings, drawing the deficit to 8-7. Jefry Yan (W, 1-0) pitched a perfect eighth to send the game to the ninth, where the Blue Wahoos used their small ball skills to scratch across the pivotal three runs against Sean McLaughlin (L, 0-1). Yan returned to the mound to lock down the thrilling win.
The Blue Wahoos look for a series win in their finale against the Trash Pandas on Sunday afternoon.
Glodfelter Throws Complete Game Shutout As No. 2 Tate Beats No. 1 Pace; Pace JV tops Tate

Josiah Glodfelter threw a complete game shutout as the No. 2 Tate Aggies beat the No. 1 Pace Patriots 2-0 Friday night in Pace.
Glodfelter allowed just one hit in seven innings, striking out nine in 97 pitches on the mound for the Aggies during the district matchup.
Madox Land, Bray Touchstone, Frankie Randall, Cade Kelly and Kirk Mosley had one hit each for the Aggies at the plate.
The Aggie improved to 16-2, and the Patriots fell to 15-3.

Pace 6, Tate 5 (JV)
The junior varsity Pace Patriots defeated the Tate Aggies 6-5 Friday night.
The Aggies scored five in the fifth inning to take the lead, only to see a Pace batter ground out and score a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Gabe Patterson was on the mound for Tate, allowing one hit and two runs in two innings, and striking out two. Hayden St. Amant, Neal Croom and Tristin Lynn pitched in relief, collectively allowing two hits, two runs and striking out one.
Michael Sardar, Conner Hassell, Javin Floyd and Ketch King each had one hit at the plate for the Aggies.

Pérez Fans Six on Birthday in 6-4 Wahoos Loss

On his 19th birthday, Eury Pérez struck out six batters but ran into early trouble as the Pensacola Blue Wahoos fell 6-4 to the Rocket City Trash Pandas on Friday night.
Pérez (L, 0-1) allowed a two-run homer to Trey Cabbage in the first inning, falling behind 2-0 before the Pensacola offense evened the score in the top of the second on an RBI double from Ray-Patrick Didder and RBI single from Cobie Fletcher-Vance. Rocket City added another run in the second on an Anthony Mulrine RBI double to claim a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, a potential inning-ending double play went awry as Pérez threw off target to second base. The tall righty left trailing 3-2 with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth, and Aaron Whitefield made the Blue Wahoos pay with a two-run single against Anthony Maldonado to extend the lead to 5-2.
The Blue Wahoos got a run back in the sixth against Rocket City reliever Zach Linginfelter (W, 1-0) on an RBI groundout from Santiago Chávez, but couldn’t generate a sustained rally. Thomas Jones hit a solo homer against Luis Ledo (S, 1) in the ninth, bringing the score to the eventual final of 6-4.
The Blue Wahoos continue their road series against the Trash Pandas on Saturday night.

Softball: Baker Tops Northview (With Gallery); Pace Defeats Tate

The Baker Lady Gators defeated the Northview Chiefs 4-3 Thursday night in Bratt.
Emma Gilmore went six innings in the circle for the Chiefs, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out 10. Aubrey Stuckey went one inning in relief, giving up one run and one hit while striking out one.
Kaylin Watson went 2-3 at the plate to lead Northview. Peyton Gilchrist and Kayla Dixon each had one hit.

Pace 9, Tate 2
The Pace Lady Patriots defeated the Tate Aggies 9-2 Thursday night.
Senior Courtney Lundquist pitched two innings for Tate, surrendering six hits and five runs. Jordan Smith pitched five, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out two.
Lundquist went 1-4 at the plate for the Aggies.

Blue Wahoos Split In Rocket City

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos and Rocket City Trash Pandas split in North Alabama Thursday.
Game One
Trash Pandas 5, Blue Wahoos 4
In a game that was suspended amid rain Tuesday night and completed Wednesday afternoon, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos fell 5-4 to the Rocket City Trash Pandas in Madison, Alabama.
Braxton Martinez’s go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth proved to be the difference, despite Pensacola homers from Jerar Encarnacion and Hayden Cantrelle.
In his Double-A debut, Cody Mincey struck out six batters over 5.0 solid innings. He was given a quick 1-0 lead before he threw a pitch, thanks to a Cantrelle double and Encarnacion RBI fielder’s choice in the top of the first. Encarnacion’s long two-run homer in the fifth put Pensacola ahead 3-1, but former Blue Wahoo Aaron Whitefield tied things up 3-3 in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homer of his own.
The game was suspended tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning on Tuesday, and was picked up on Wednesday with Eli Villalobos (L, 0-1) on the mound. Martinez hit the pivotal homer in the eighth, and Kolton Ingram (W, 1-0) worked around a Cantrelle homer in the ninth to finish the game.
Game Two
Blue Wahoos 5, Trash Pandas 3
The Pensacola Blue Wahoos rode a strong pitching performance from Will Stewart and more clutch hitting from Paul McIntosh to beat the Rocket City Trash Pandas 5-3 on Thursday night.
The game helped the Blue Wahoos salvage a win out of their long day of baseball after falling 5-4 in the conclusion of Wednesday’s suspended game earlier in the afternoon.
Stewart turned in 4.0 innings of five-hit, one-run ball as the Huntsville-area native worked around traffic to keep his team in the game. His mound opponent, Brett Kerry, struck out 10 of the first 11 batters he faced and eventually struck out 12 batters over 5.0 one-hit innings.
Kerry’s lone hit allowed was a solo home run allowed to Cobie Fletcher-Vance with two outs in the fifth inning that tied the game 1-1. The Trash Pandas wasted no time reclaiming the lead, getting a two-run double from Trey Cabbage against Parker Bugg (W, 1-0) to take a 3-1 lead.
In the sixth, the Blue Wahoos welcomed the departure of Kerry and quickly loaded the bases against erratic reliever Ivan Armstrong (L, 0-1) with two walks and a hit batsman. McIntosh, who entered the game leading the league in batting average, tied the game with a two-run double to even the score 3-3.
Griffin Conine tallied the eventual game-winning at-bat, though it came about in curious fashion. With the bases loaded and one out in the sixth, Conine lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that brought home Ray-Patrick Didder for Pensacola’s fourth run. McIntosh tagged from second, though upon appeal he was called out for leaving early. Didder’s run still counted, having crossed the plate before the appeal, preserving the go-ahead run.
Troy Johnston tallied his first Double-A RBI with a single in the eighth, and Colton Hock (S, 2) protected the 5-3 lead by delivering a scoreless ninth.
The Blue Wahoos continue their road series against the Trash Pandas on Friday night.

Flomaton High’s Baleigh Johnson Signs With Coastal Alabama Brewton Volleyball

Wednesday, Flomaton High School senior Baleigh Johnson signed a volleyball scholarship with Coastal Alabama Community College in Brewton.
Johnson played volleyball for the past four years. She is the daughter of Russell and Melissa Johnson.

Blue Wahoos, Trash Pandas Suspended Due To Rain

The second game of the series between the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at the Rocket City Trash Pandas was suspended due to rain in the bottom of the seventh Wednesday night due to rain in Madison, Alabama.
The game, which was in a 3-3 tie, will resume Thursday at 4:05 p.m, prior to the regularly scheduled game at 6:35 p.m.
Tuesday night, the Blue Wahoos got their first win of the young season 4-3 over Rocket City.
