McCambley Leads Blue Wahoos To Fifth Win In A Row

Zach McCambley struck out eight batters over 6.0 scoreless innings as the first-place Pensacola Blue Wahoos defeated the Rocket City Trash Pandas 2-1 Saturday night.
McCambley (W, 2-2) completed 6.0 innings for the second start in a row, and has now allowed only one run on six hits over 12.0 innings in the month of May.
Rocket City starter Ky Bush (L, 2-1) matched McCambley zero for zero until the bottom of the sixth, when Thomas Jones led things off with a double and took third on a Victor Victor Mesa bunt. Jones scored on a Troy Johnston sacrifice fly, and Mesa scored from second on Griffin Conine’s two-out infield single to put the Blue Wahoos ahead 2-0.
Jefry Yan pitched a scoreless seventh, and Anthony Maldonado (S, 1) worked around back-to-back two-out doubles from Braxton Martinez and Preston Palmeiro in the ninth to earn his first save.
The Blue Wahoos have now won five in a row, and on Sunday will aim for their first six-game winning streak since May of 2021. They have not swept a series since taking five straight from Mobile in July of 2019, and have never swept a six-game series in team history.

Northview Chiefs Fall In Regional Final To Holmes County

The Northview Chiefs lost their 1A regional final game 6-3 to Holmes County Friday night in Bonifay.
Kaden Odom was on the hill for Northview, giving up six hits and four runs while striking out three in three and third innings. Josh Landis threw two and two-thirds innings allowing two hits, two runs and striking out two.
Jamarkus Jefferson and Luke Bridges both had two hits to lead the Chiefs at the plate. Odom, Landis and Wyatt Scruggs added one hit each.
The Northview Chiefs ended their season at 17-7.

Wahoos Win Fourth Straight, Move Into First Place

Eury Pérez struck out nine more batters over 5.1 brilliant innings, Thomas Jones hit a late go-ahead home run, and the Pensacola Blue Wahoos took sole possession of first place on Friday night with a 4-2 win over the Rocket City Trash Pandas.
The Blue Wahoos are 16-15, above the .500 mark for the first time this season, and have earned their first series victory with their longest winning streak of the year.
Pérez and Rocket City starter Sam Bachman locked horns, with both top pitching prospects showing off their dominant stuff. Bachman allowed only a walk over 4.0 hitless innings, and Rocket City managed only a fourth-inning single through the first five frames against Pérez.
In the top of the sixth, a leadoff walk from Bryce Teodosio was followed by a one-out RBI double from Jose Gomez to give Rocket City the game’s first run. Pérez departed, and Orlando Martinez laced an RBI single against Andrew Nardi (W, 2-2) to put the Trash Pandas ahead 2-0.
The Blue Wahoos answered back in the bottom of the sixth, as Jones was hit by a pitch and Victor Victor Mesa beat out an infield single for Pensacola’s first hit of the night. Troy Johnston and Jerar Encarnacion then hit back-to-back RBI singles to tie the game 2-2.
In the seventh, Bubba Hollins found his way aboard before a two-out, two-run homer from Jones against Eric Torres (L, 0-1) gave the Blue Wahoos a 4-2 lead. Josh Simpson and Eli Villalobos (S, 3) pitched the final two innings to seal Pensacola’s fourth win in a row.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Rocket City Trash Pandas on Saturday.

Jay Tops Northview In 1A Regional Softball Semifinal (With Photo Gallery)

The Jay Royals defeated the Northview Chiefs 6-3 in 1A regional semifinal softball Thursday night in Jay.
Jay took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and continued to a 6-0 advantage by the end of the firth inning. The Lady Chiefs rallied in the seventh with three runs, including two run out of the park home run from Kayla Dixon.

Jamison Gilman allowed two hits and two runs in two innings for Northview. Emma Gilmore was in the circle for four innings, allowing four hits, four runs and striking out four.
Alayna Lowery went seven innings for Jay, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out two and walking one.
Dixon, Alanna Roberson, Kaitlin Gafford, Kailyn Watson and Chloe Ragsdale each had one hit for the Chiefs.
Lowery and Ella Nelson had two hits each for the Royals, while Caitlyn Gavin and Brett Watson had one each.
Jay (19-5, 6-0) is on a 15 game winning streak as they move on to the regional final on Tuesday against Paxton (14-4, 4-2).
Northview’s season ended at 13-13, 2-2 in the district.

Three Home Runs As Wahoos Win Third Straight

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos brought home eight runs on three home runs as they won their third straight ballgame on Thursday night, defeating the Rocket City Trash Pandas 9-8 to pull back to the .500 mark.
Ray-Patrick Didder hit the club’s first grand slam of the season, Santiago Chávez blasted a three-run homer in his return to Pensacola, and Jerar Encarnacion stayed hot with his team-leading eighth homer in a 3-for-4 night.
Rocket City scored three early runs against Will Stewart (W, 1-1) in the first inning, as Braxton Martinez hit a two-run double and Kevin Maitan brought home a run on an RBI groundout. Bryce Teodosio hit a solo homer in the second to put the Trash Pandas ahead 4-0.
Stewart completed 5.0 innings, working scoreless ball the rest of his night, allowing the offense to get back in the game. Didder’s grand slam in the second tied things up against Aaron Hernandez (L, 0-2), and the Blue Wahoos put two men aboard in the fourth inning before reliever Kolton Ingram served up Chávez’s three-run home run to put Pensacola ahead 7-4.
Encarnacion homered in the fifth, giving him hits in seven consecutive at-bats on the heels of Wednesday’s 4-for-4 performance. Griffin Conine got in on the act with a two-out RBI single in the sixth that proved to be the game-winning run.
Maitan and Trey Cabbage hit solo homers against Anthony Maldonado, and Teodosio hit a two-run single off Dylan Bice in the eighth to bring Rocket City within a run. Colton Hock (S, 4) remained perfect in save opportunities this season, working a scoreless ninth.
Winners of three straight for the first time this season, the Blue Wahoos are now 15-15 on the season and have pulled into a tie for first place after Montgomery was swept by Tennessee in a doubleheader.

Mincey, Blue Wahoos Cruise to 8-2 Victory Over The Trash Pandas

Early offense buoyed Cody Mincey once again as the Pensacola Blue Wahoos defeated the Rocket City Trash Pandas 8-2 on Wednesday night.
Mincey (W, 2-1) became the fourth consecutive Blue Wahoos starter to deliver a quality start, allowing just two unearned runs over a career-high 6.0 innings.
The Blue Wahoos scored four runs in the first inning against Brent Killam (L, 1-2), taking advantage of a Preston Palmeiro error to stake Mincey to an early lead. Jerar Encarnacion had the first of his season-high four hits to drive in the game’s first run, and Victor Victor Mesa capped the inning with a two-run blast for his first home run of the year.
Rocket City pushed across two unearned runs in the third on a Trey Cabbage sacrifice fly and Braxton Martinez RBI single, but Mincey kept things in check for the remainder of his outing. Encarnacion hit a two-run homer in the fifth, his team-leading seventh homer of the year, and Mesa brought home his third and fourth RBI of the night with a single in the eighth.
Jefry Yan and Andrew Nardi delivered scoreless relief for the final 3.0 innings to secure Pensacola’s second consecutive win.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Rocket City Trash Pandas on Thursday.

Northview Headed To Regional Final After 7-3 Win Over Paxton

The Northview Chiefs beat Paxton 7-3 Tuesday night in Bratt in the 1A regional semifinals.
Jamarkus Jefferson earned the win for the Northview Chiefs, allowing two hits and two runs in four and two-thirds innings while striking out six. Burkett threw two and one third innings in relief.
Jefferson and Wyatt Scruggs led Northview at the plate, both going 2-3. Burkett, Luke Bridges and Kaden Odom each added a hit.
Northview will travel to top seed Holmes County Friday night in Bonifay for the regional final. Holmes County advanced by beating jay 7-3 Tuesday night.

Tate Falls Short In Regional Quarterfinal

The Tate Aggies fell short in the 6A regional quarterfinals Tuesday night, losing 3-1 to First Coast in Jacksonville.
Josiah Glodfelter went six innings for Tate, giving up four hits and three runs in six innings while striking out a dozen and walking just one.
Madox Land led the Aggies at the plate, going 2-4. Clif Quiggins, Bray Touchstone, Frankie Randal, Jackson Penton and Cade Kelly had one hit each for Tate.
The Tate Aggies finished their season at 23-4.

Wahoos Blast Past Rocket City

Griffin Conine hit a two-run triple and circled the bases on a throwing error in the eighth inning, breaking a late tie and leading the Pensacola Blue Wahoos to a 4-2 win over the Rocket City Trash Pandas on Tuesday evening.
With two outs and two men on base in the eighth in a 1-1 game, Conine hit a liner past a diving Trey Cabbage in right field to put the Blue Wahoos ahead by a pair. When the relay throw to third went into foul territory, Conine completed the circuit for the biggest play of the night.
The game began as a pitchers’ duel, as Pensacola’s George Soriano and Rocket City’s Brett Kerry traded zeroes. The Trash Pandas took the game’s first lead in the third inning on an Orlando Martinez RBI single, but the Blue Wahoos turned a Conine walk and a Luis Aviles Jr. sacrifice fly into the tying run in the fourth. Soriano delivered his first Double-A quality start, striking out a season-high eight batters over 6.0 one-run innings.
Conine’s triple against Sean McLaughlin (L, 1-2) made a winner of Josh Simpson (W, 2-0), who continued his dominant run with 2.0 scoreless relief innings and has now started his season with 15.2 scoreless frames.
Eli Villalobos (S, 2) allowed a solo home run to Braxton Martinez in the ninth, but struck out the next three batters to earn the save.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Rocket City Trash Pandas on Wednesday.
