Barbara Ann Talbot

Our dearest mom, Barbara Ann Talbot, sadly passed away the morning of July 19th, 2022, at the age of 70. Barbara, affectionately known as “Bo”, spent the majority of her adult life in Pensacola, FL where she raised her six children. Some of her most cherished moments were spent with family on Saturdays listening to Yacht Rock, watching Alabama football, laying out at the beach or sweating at the ballpark. She made some lifelong friends along the way who became more like family.

Bo left behind a large group of people that will miss her immensely. With her passing, she joins her mother, father and five of her siblings. She is survived by her sister, Doris Davis (Paxton), six children, Shane Howell (Milton), Allison DeCastro (Los Angeles), Nikki Gill (Molino), Brian Howell (Pensacola), Justin Luttrell (Cantonment), Ryan Luttrell (Pensacola), son-in-law Robert Gill, daughter-in-law Erin Luttrell, granddaughters Kiersey, Téa, Kinsey, Jordyn and Chase, and grandsons Cade, Grant and Cooper.

Because of her love for her granddogs and cats (Rosco, Duke, Josie, Violet, Bad Cat and Amos), in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Escambia County Animal Shelter.

Major Harrison Pope

Major Harrison Pope, age 87, of Molino, Florida passed away on July 11, 2022. Harold was born in Pensacola, Florida. Harold loved his family. He ministered in music throughout churches and nursing homes in the surrounding area. Music and making people smile were his daily goals. Harold served in the Air Force he retired as an Air Craft Mechanic NAS. He is survived by his son, Joshua (Angelia) Pope; granddaughters, Crista Pope and Marlo Pope; grandson, Caleb (Hannah) Pope; great grandsons, Benjamin and Rhys; brother, Virgil Pope; sister, Myrtle Fay Rodgers, many nieces and nephews.

Graveside only at Barrancas National Cemetery on July 26, 2022 at 10:00am.

Teresa Ann Godwin

Mrs. Teresa Ann Godwin, age 72, of Atmore, AL, passed away Friday afternoon, July 22, 2022, in a Century Health Care Facility. She loved flowers, her family and the Lord was the most important in her life. Mrs. Godwin was a member of the Little Escambia Baptist Church. She was very involved in her church and Vacation Bible School.

She is survived by a son, Jason (Tara) Godwin of Mobile, AL; one daughter, Dena (Terry) Strength of Atmore, AL; one sister, Thelma (Don) Robinson of Bay Minette, AL; and four grandchildren, Petty Officer Chandler Strength, Ashleigh Anna Strength, Chase Godwin, and Luke Godwin.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Roy Godwin; Parents, Thomas and Anna Whitehurst; a brother, Neville Whitehurst; Father-in-law, Clark Godwin, and her Mother-in-law, Myrtle Godwin.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Little Escambia Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Sardis Cemetery in Canoe, AL.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 12:30 P.M. until service time at 1:00 P.M. at the church.

Pallbearers: Chase Godwin, Luke Godwin, Casey Fordyce, Terry Strength, Jonathan Wiggins, and Matt Robinson.

Mary Kaye Weekley

July 20, 2022

Mary Kaye Weekley, age 79 of Pensacola, Florida passed away on July 19, 2022. Mary Kaye was born in Phillipsville, Alabama. Mary Kaye moved to Pensacola, Florida with her husband in 1967. Mary Kaye owned Lads & Lassies consignment shop for 30 years. Mary Kaye was a member of the Pilot Club of Pensacola.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Stewart and Hattie Stewart; sister, Genevieve Cates her brothers, Angelo Stewart and J. L. Stewart.

She is survived by her husband, Webb A. Weekely Jr.; son, Keith (Heidi) Weekley; daughter, Michelle Simmons; grandchildren, Adam (Natalie) Weekley, Olivia Weekley (Jeremy) Jordan, Walton Simmons, Madeline Simmons; great granddaughter, Linley Weekley.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 11:00am at Faith Chapel Funeral Home in Cantonment, Florida. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:00am prior to the service. Interment will be at Perdido Baptist Church Cemetery in Perdido, Alabama.

Joe Stokes

Mr. Joe Stokes, age 72, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022 at his Gautier, Mississippi residence.

Mr. Stokes was born in Century, FL and had been a resident of Gautier since 1976. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the U.S. Navy. He worked at Ingall’s Shipyard for 36 years and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rosie Stokes; a son, Brad Stokes; four brothers, Milford Stokes, John Stokes, Ricky Stokes and Jake Stokes.

He is survived by his wife, Mickie Nelson Stokes of Gautier; a daughter, Kim (Mike) Byrd of Mobile; sister, Jeanette Schofield of Lockhart; brother, Rocky (Mary) Stokes of Paxton; grandchildren, Keylee (Joe) Burnham, Austin Byrd; great-granddaughter, Khloe Burnham; and close friend, John Carter of Gautier.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. from the chapel of Flomaton Funeral Home with Dr. Gene Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Flomaton Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday.

Pallbearers are Melvin Nelson, Jeremiah Walston, Jeffery Lambeth, John Carter, Mike Byrd, and Joe Burnham.

Audrey Price Swicegood

July 19, 2022

Audrey Price Swicegood, age 90, died June 22, 2022 in Pensacola. A native of Live Oak, Florida, she formerly lived in Dothan, Alabama.

She was predeceased by her parents, Clyde K. Price, Virginia Gaskin and stepfather Kirk Gaskin, as well as her brother Ronald K. Price and sister Yvonne Greek.

Survivors include husband Glen M. Swicegood of Pensacola; children Brian (Debbie) of Miami, Luanne Wolf (Steve) of Pensacola, John (Tina) of Elgin, Oklahoma; granddaughters Lauren of Miami and Caelan of Elgin; brother-in-law Kent Swicegood, sister-in law Rose Marie Price and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Audrey was a graduate of Stetson University and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky where she obtained her Master’s in Religious Education. She met and married Glen at SBTS and they lived in Nashville, TN before appointment in 1963 as missionaries to Brazil. In Recife in the Northeast, she taught in the WMU Training School preparing young women for church-related vocations, helped administer the Elisabeth Mein Children’s Home for girls, and was an unusually popular Sunday School teacher in the English Department of Emanuel Baptist Church in Boa Viagem, a church which she and Glen helped to start. Since retirement in 1993 they lived in Dothan, being active in turn at Calvary, Napier, and Bethlehem Baptist churches. Due to declining health she and Glen moved to Pensacola in 2021.

After private interment, a Celebration of Life service will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 416 Bethlehem Road, Dothan, AL. on July 22 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, friends may want to make memorial gifts to the International Mission Board of the SBC in Richmond, VA, or to your preferred charity.

James B. Gregory

James B. Gregory went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 14, 2022 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

James was a devoted husband for 51 years to his wife Patricia. He was a loving father and grandfather. James was born 89 years ago in Pensacola, Florida, son of James Senior and Vonceil Gregory.

Jim was a strong, independent and hardworking man who loved working as an Architectural Hardware consultant for many years. He provided for his family and loved them deeply. Jim and Pat loved to travel with their airstream with family and friends.

Poppa enjoyed playing golf, going fishing, and was a talented landscape artist. One of his favorite pastimes was watching his children and grandchildren playing the sports that they loved.

Jim and Pat loved their church, Heritage Baptist Church and attended when they were able loved listening to the word of God. James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Vonceil Gregory; daughter, Deborah Tourney.
He is survived by this wife Patricia Gregory; sons, Keith (Marilyn) Tourney, Donald (Faith) Tourney, David (Elsie) Tourney, one son and two daughters, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Friday, July 22, 2022 beginning at 12:30p.m. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. following the visitation at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. Burial will follow at Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

James Floyd Tolin

James Floyd Tolin, born October 7, 1973, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at his home on July 16, 2022. He was an amazing husband, father, son, brother and friend. If he called you friend, you were a friend for life. He was proud to work for the City of Atmore for 27 years and Wind Creek Casino for 20 years. He has always been a hard worker. He loved providing for his family and helping anyone he could.

He was born to Herman E. Tolin and Merle Harris Tolin. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; siblings: Sheila M. Tolin and Angie M. Tolin; father-in-law, James E. Powe; brother-in-law, Kyle Powe and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Tammy S. Tolin of Atmore, AL; one son, James Benjamin O. Tolin (Bean) of Atmore, AL; one brother, H. Roy Tolin of Atmore, AL; his mother-in-law, Sue McClendon of Atmore, AL; sister-in-law, Mary E. Faucett (Hollis) of Pensacola, FL and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Brooks Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Tew and Dr. Larry Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Gardens Cemetery in Atmore, AL.

Active pallbearers will be Shaun Cruz, Brian Burkett, Wesley Webb, Allen Sharpless, Will Hawks and John O’Barr.

Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of the City of Atmore.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2022 from 1:30 p.m. until service time at 2:30 p.m. at Brooks Memorial Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pilots for Christ.

Susana Vega English

July 18, 2022

Susana Vega English, age 87, of Atmore, AL passed away on July 14, 2022 in Pensacola, FL. She was born on June 19, 1935 in Carrizozo, NM to Frank and Mariana Reyes Vega. Early in life, she was employed as a Legal Secretary. She was a member of Saint Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse Willard English; her daughter, Valerie Ann English and two siblings.

She is survived by her sons: Michael English, Bruce English and Robert English; her daughter, Terri Quinn; her grandchildren: Brittany Alicia Taylor, Joseph Rayne Portillo, Payton Joseph English, Colton Jesse English, Benjamin English, Shawn English, Ryan Quinn and Erin Quinn.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church with Father Joseph officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Saint Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Atmore, AL.

Lois Elizabeth Luker Amerson

July 18, 2022

Lois Elizabeth Luker Amerson, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and the best Grandma in the world passed peacefully in Allen, Texas on Friday, July 15th, 2022, at the age of 91. Lois was born October 18, 1930, in McCullough Alabama to Madora and Ezell Luker. She married Albert Elyan Amerson, Sr. on December 9, 1950.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband. She is survived by her sons and daughter in laws; Albert E. and Leah Amerson, Jr. of Colleyville, Texas, Danny and Sharon Amerson of Hammond, Louisiana, and Scott and Jane Amerson of Fairview, Texas.  Lois had eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Lois was a devoted Christian and a long-time member of Presley Street Baptist Church. She retired from Monsanto before moving closer to her family in Louisiana and then to Dallas, Texas. Throughout her life, Lois was involved in numerous associations and social events. She loved and prioritized her family above all else while giving everyone unconditional love and support. 

A celebration of life graveside service will be held Thursday, July 21, 2022 at noon at Godwin Cemetery in Bratt, FL.

A visitation will be held Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Our family believes that we have not lost our mother, Heaven has received another angel. Mom will live in our hearts forever, so we feel that there is no need to say you are sorry.  In lieu of flowers the family requests making a donation in Lois Amerson’s remembrance to The American Cancer Society.
