Martha Carnley Shivers

Mrs. Martha Carnley Shivers, age 85, passed away, Saturday, October 22, 2022 in Pensacola, FL. She has resided most of her life in Flomaton, AL; and retired from Vanity Fair Mills with many years of service.

Mrs. Shivers enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid quilter, enjoyed gardening, flowers, and fishing. She was a loving mother and always a good story teller to the children. She was a very good cook and enjoyed all the family get togethers. She was one of a kind, always the life of the party, and always loved to have a “good time.”

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis (Hattie Louise Knowles) Carnley, two brothers, Lewis Carnley, Jr; James Edward Carnley, and one sister, Betty Jean Price.

She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Joe Shivers, Sr; of Flomaton, AL; one son, Joe (Sue) Shivers, Jr; of Jay, FL; three brothers, Eddie Carnley, of Milton, FL; Simmie Carnley, of Century, FL; Quinton Carnley, of Cantonment, FL; two sisters, Dottie Ladner, of Century, FL; Marie Turk, of Hurley, MS; two grandchildren, Philip Shivers, of Jay, FL; Angel Shivers (Terry) Kelley, of Jay, FL; five great-grandchildren, Autumn Shivers, Alex Shivers, Carson Shivers, Peighton Cobb, Jansen Cobb, numerous nephews and nieces, other relatives, and friends.

Graveside service will be Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Ebenezer Cemetery with Rev. Ray Hudson officiating.

Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Philip Shivers, Terry Kelley, and Jansen Cobb.

Tommy Wayne Ward

October 25, 2022

Tommy Wayne Ward, age 74, of Molino, Florida met his Heavenly Father on October 22, 2022. He was born on July 9, 1948 to Tom and Winnie Miller Ward.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Ebb, Bud, Junie, Willie, Ray, Lonnie and Bill. He is survived by three sisters, Tiny McCrory, Jean Moody and Ruth Neal. Pallbearers are John Hassellbrock, Terry Hassellbrock, Gene Hassellbrock, Chuck Ward, Donel Thomas and Tommy McCrory. Honorary pallbearers are James Gibson and Bennie Hassellbrock.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to service. Burial with be at Highland Baptist Church Cemetery in Molino, Florida.

Doyle Orvin Johnson, Sr.

Mr. Doyle Orvin Johnson, Sr, 66 years of age, passed away, Thursday, October 13, 2022 in Frisco city, AL. He was born on March 28, 1956 in Pensacola, Fl; and resided in Monroe County most of his life. He was a tugboat captain with many years of service.

Mr. Johnson enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, grilling out, and gardening. He was always big fan of science and history.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Franklin Orvin Johnson and Shirley Fralick McDaniel, daughter, Penny Johnson, and sister, Gail Johnson.

He is survived by his one son, Doyle Johnson, Jr; of Atmore, AL; one brother, George (Leann) Johnson, of Goodway, AL; two sisters, Darlene (Mark) McLain, of Pace, FL; Ginger Ramar, of Perdido, AL; one grandchild, MeKayla Andrews, of Mobile, AL; other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2022 from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.

Glenda Faye McIntyre Black

October 23, 2022

, age 83, of Cantonment passed away peacefully, Friday, October 21, 2022. She was born in Hoover, Alabama to Herbert and Winnie Lyles. She attended Pensacola High School. She served many years as a dedicated employee for the DMV before retirement. She enjoyed volunteering at the Saenger Theatre, the Pensacola Welcome Center, and the Pensacola Civic Center after Retirement.

Glenda “Faye” enjoyed spending time with her family and friends throughout her life. She had an absolute passion for reading and you would often find her in a corner reading. Glenda “Faye” was an amazing wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt that will be missed terribly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Winnie Carlisle Lyles. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Black; daughters, Lisa (Richard) McCullough, Linda McIntyre, Lesley ( Rick) Johnson; sister, Gaye Lyles Metzger, grandchildren, Kristin (Kendall) Rutherford, Brett McCullough, Chad Pugh, Chris (Maria) Carter, Jessica (Scott) Edwards, Jason (Wadad) Carter, Brian Connors, Kimberly ( Ryan) Crate.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.

In lieu of flowers the family would ask that you make a donation to Emerald Coast Hospice. The family is very grateful and thankful for the comfort and peace they provided.

Charlotte H. Eubanks

Charlotte H. Eubanks, age 72 of Pace, Florida passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022 after a brief illness. She courageously battled Glioblastoma for 21 days. She was married to the love of her life, Hardy N. Eubanks III, for almost 50 years before becoming widowed in December 2020.

Charlotte was born on November 16, 1949 in Laurel, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Warren Hinton and Kathryn Sherman. She resided in Soso, Mississippi for 18 years. She then attended The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg while earning a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. She later returned to Southern Miss to earn a Master’s degree in Home Economics and later earned another in Biological Sciences.

Charlotte was a hard-working educator for 44 years. She taught a variety of subjects including Culinary Arts, Biology, and Anatomy & Physiology. She spent the last 27 years of her career at Pace High School. Throughout her career, she taught over 6000 students, and the impact she had on many of them will never be forgotten. From her entertaining lessons and zany mnemonic devices to her energetic sponsorship of clubs and organizations, she influenced her students to be the best version of themselves academically, socially, and morally.

Charlotte was a member of the East Hill Church of Christ in Pensacola, Florida for over 37 years where she enjoyed teaching children’s classes, singing hymns, and hosting church gatherings in her home. She was an avid seamstress, quilter, and crafter. She truly loved sharing her gifts by teaching others to learn these special skills too. Charlotte was an active member of the Tallahala chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Over the years, she was also involved in many service organizations throughout the community.

There was nothing Charlotte enjoyed more than being a loving Mom and Meme. She and Hardy spent countless hours with all five of their grandchildren. Whether she was attending their games, musical events, watching movies, baking brownies, or making a root beer float, these moments brought endless happiness to her life. Being a mother and grandmother was one of the greatest joys of her life.

She truly had a servant’s heart. She devoted much of her life to taking care of everyone around her. When her mother was paralyzed from a stroke, Charlotte selflessly became her care-giver for 9 years of her life. Charlotte also lovingly cared for her dear husband Hardy as he suffered from a degenerative brain disease for 2 years. She was a giver in every aspect of life. This depth of love and genuine care for others is a treasured gift that will be missed by all that knew her.

Charlotte is survived by her daughters Joy (Josh) Owens of Pace, FL and Katie (Brandon) Faulkner of Winter Garden, FL; and her grandchildren, Bryan (Alyssa) Shy, Caleb and Asher Owens, Kaylee and Bradley Faulkner; along with many brother/sister in-laws and nieces & nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 ½ years, Hardy N. Eubanks III; her parents Warren and Kathryn Hinton; and her sister, Diane Stringer.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the funeral home.

Kevin Ray

October 21, 2022

Master Deputy Kevin Ray, of Escambia County, Florida Sheriff’s Office, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022. A graveside service will be on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 2:00pm at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery. The family requests guests meet in the cemetery.

Kevin loved life and could always be heard cheering for his alma mater- the Troy University Trojans!! He was a Sherriff’s Deputy for over 20 years in Escambia County, Florida. The apple of his eye was his beloved daughter, Lauren Ray, who would travel all around riding and competing with her equestrian team. He enjoyed spending time with her and was her greatest support! He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

Loving survivors include his daughter, Lauren Ray; his parents, Danny & Judy Ray; his brother, Richard Ray (Pam); his grandmother, Billie Gibson; his nephew, Carter Ray; and his niece, Kenzie Beth Ray.

He was predeceased by his grandfather, Henry Gibson; and his paternal grandparents, Carter & Johnnie Ray.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Troy Bank & Trust in memory of Kevin Ray for his daughter’s medical expenses.

Holley ‘Rex’ Crews

Holley “Rex” Crews was born to Versie and Willie Mae Crews on January 18, 1941, in the Holland Town community, where he grew up with his siblings and cousins. Rex began working on his uncle’s farm at a young age and was driving a tractor by the age of 8. As he got older, he began working with a builder where he learned some of the skills that would help build his career.

He met the love of his life, Lottie “Nell” Day at a school dance in July of 1958, and they were married June 27, 1959. They welcomed their first son, Danny, in 1961, followed by their youngest son, Rocky, in 1962.

1962 was a big year for Rex, as he also started his flooring business “Rex Crews Flooring.” He loved making his customers happy and making sure that he left a job that he was proud of. He learned his trade well and could nail a floor faster than most other floor men all the way up until the day he retired. With this determination and perseverance, and most importantly God’s help, he and Nell built a strong business that provided well for their family and then their sons’ families for 45+ years and left a legacy of quality service for the Gulf Coast community.

If you ever got to speak with Rex about his life, he would tell you he was very blessed. He was a member of Springhill Primitive Baptist church where he faithfully attended and helped with church upkeep as much as he could. He loved having his wife by his side from his morning cup of coffee throughout the day until he could kiss her good night. It was rare that you ever saw them apart. He also loved being outside tending his yard, helping his sons with various projects, showing his grandkids things in the woods, or just enjoying the beauty of God’s creation while relaxing on vacation. He was a cancer survivor of almost 30 years. He always counted it a great blessing to be able to sit down to a good meal, especially when it was finished up with a big bowl of soft serve ice cream or one of Nell’s famous desserts. These meals were even more enjoyable to him, when he could be surrounded by his sons, grandkids, and great grandkids. He loved being able to share time with them.

Jesus called Rex home to be with Him in Heaven on October 17, 2022. He is preceded in death by his father, Versie Crews; his mother, Wille Mae (Nelson) Crews; his brother, Heston Crews; and his sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Doyle Wolfe.

His memory will be cherished and carried on by his wife of 63 years, Nell; his two sons Danny (Wendy) Crews and Rocky (Connie) Crews; his four grandchildren Jennifer (David) Brooks, Joe (Sarah) Crews, Heather (Jordan Dunlap) Crews, and Ethan (Hayley Wilson) Crews; ten great grandchildren; sister Kathleen (Wayne) Pierce; brother John David Crews; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 21 from 5 PM- 7PM. Services will be Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11 AM at Faith Chapel North, with Elder Michael Johnson and Elder Gerald Manning officiating. Interment will follow immediately afterwards at Springhill Primitive Baptist Church in Flomaton, AL.

Pallbearers will be Joe Crews, Ethan Crews, David Brooks, Chuck Booth, Kenny Ogwynn and Phil Richards. Honorary pallbearers are is Mike Hawk and David Rogers.

Johnny Ray Burkett, Sr.

Mr. Johnny Ray Burkett, Sr; age 64, passed away, Tuesday, October 18, 2022, in Pensacola, FL. He was a lifelong resident of Atmore, AL; and a member of Westside Baptist Church. He was employed with Masland Carpets with 42 years of service.

Mr. Burkett enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid Alabama Football Fan, and always loved going to the Smoky Mountains. He had a love for gospel and country music, especially Johnny Cash. He had a heart of gold and was a faithful church goer. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, an avid tootsie roll eater, and he enjoyed drinking a good cup of coffee.

He preceded in death by his parents, Comer Eugene (Lela Frances Bruce) Burkett, two brothers, Tommy Burkett, James Burkett, and one sister, Cindy Burkett.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Barbara Burkett, of Atmore, AL; one son Johnny Ray (Samantha) Burkett, Jr; of Atmore, AL; one daughter, Jennifer Karen Burkett (George Hughes) of Flomaton, AL; four brothers, Gene (Mazie) Burkett, of Atmore, AL; Floyd (Frances) Burkett, of Nokomis, AL; Wayne (Diane) Burkett, of Atmore, AL; Michael (Rainey) Burkett, of Atmore, AL; four sisters, Ruby Sanspree, of Atmore, AL; Francis Godwin, of Atmore, AL; Claudia Powell, of Perdido, AL; Shirley Boatwright, of Atmore, AL; six grandchildren, Kinkade Hadley, Daniel Green, Bryson Burkett, John Hollis Denard, Marley Denard, Gillian Denard, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Joseph “Jr” Ivey

Mr. Joseph “Jr” Ivey, age 66, passed away, Thursday, October 13, 2022 in Pensacola, FL. He was born on March 3, 1956 in Dallas, TX; and resided in Atmore, AL; since 2004. He was a painter for many years.

Mr. Ivey enjoyed going fishing, bowling, and enjoyed tinkering on cars.

He is preceded in death by his father, Rush Hardie Ivey, one brother, Darrell Ivey, grandparents, Jurn and Ellen Moye, one step-sister, Joann Johnson.

He is survived by his two mother, Myrtle Stephens, of Atmore, AL; one son, Jared Lee Ivey, of Lake City, FL; two brothers, John (Brenda) Stephens, of Uriah, AL; Chris (Sonya) Stephens, of Pensacola, FL; three sisters, Janey Smith, of Perdido, AL; Ellen Virginia Greer, of Long View, TX; Pamela Zorin, of Leesburg, FL; three step-sisters, Myrtle (Floyd) Hill, of Flomaton, AL; Linda (George) Stokes, of Castleberry, AL; Fridie (Comer) Johnson, of Flomaton, AL; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Earl Harrison and Rev. Wendell Hadley officiating.

Charlotte Jernigan Huff

Charlotte Jernigan Huff passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022. She was born on August 31, 1958 in Pensacola, Florida. Charlotte was the most wonderful human being the world will ever know, the saying “heart of gold” does not qualify, she was an angel on earth. She will be truly missed. Charlotte graduated with her Bachelor’s degree. Charlotte worked for Vanity Fair, numerous Circle K’s, and was also the Concessions Manager at Five Flags Speedway.

Charlotte is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Joe Huff: father, Charles Jernigan; bonus father, Alex Cutts; her sister, Gail Craycraft; and her son, Larry “Labo” Martin.

Charlotte is survived by her mother, Ester Cutts; one daughter, Vivian Huff; nephews, Chris (Bridget) Burkett and Wayne Burkett, Christopher Huff, Amanda (Craig) Hindsman, great nephews and great nieces Caleb, Kiersten, eyton, and Briana Burkett, Colton Huff, Kaitlyn and Carson Hindsman. Bonus children Kimberly Hughes Smith, Holly (Don) Millsap, Marisol (Jerome) Lindsay, and Elizabeth Peavy. Grandchildren- Charles (Maddie), Jessica and Sabreena Bell, Sebastian Peavy, Joe Peffer, Laura (Jason) Schofield, Johnnie "Buck" Hughes Smith, Kayden and Chase Millsap, Nasiah Lindsay. Great grandchildren- Zev, Josette and Eliana The family will receive friends at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM. The service will be on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 12:00PM. Pastor Bill Flanagin will be officiating.
