Dr. George E. Mitchel

Dr. George E. Mitchell, age 84, native of Atmore and resident of Lillian, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012, in Daphne, AL.
Dr. Mitchell was a member of Episcopal Church of the Advent, Lillian, AL. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Dentistry and the former dental director of Mobile County and former director of the National Medical Audio Visual Center, Atlanta, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian Huston Mitchell and Mildred Inez Crook Mitchell and his brother, Dr. William Lloyd Mitchell.
Dr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Billie Hartsfield Mitchell of Lillian, AL; three daughters, Melanie Clem of Hiawassee, GA, Melissa Mitchell of New Orleans, LA, Erin Mitchell Speed of Lillian, AL; five grandchildren, Jennifer Clem and Kevin Clem, both of Hiawassee, GA, Emily Speed of Orlando, FL, Sarah Speed and Ethan Speed, both of Lillian, AL.
A Graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at 10:15 a.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of his mother, Mildred Inez Crook Mitchell.
Lee (Lavan) Edwards Martin

Mr. Lee (Lavan) Edwards Martin, age 79, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, April 13, 2012.He was born to the late Willis McGhee and Elsie Martin Holland. He was a 1951 graduate of Escambia County High School and attended Auburn University.
His 22-year army career began as a clerical administrator during the Korean War, and he later transferred to Germany. He also served at the Pentagon and in Belgium with NATO. After retiring in 1975, he worked in human resources at The Citadel in Charleston, SC, for 20 years.
He served as chapter commander of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and as a post member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Charleston. He was instrumental establishing the Atmore VFW Post were he served 16 years as commander. He also served as a scoutmaster, and as senior warden at St. Anna’s Episcopal Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Martin who was survived by his children Shane and Cairra Martin.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Edith Martin; three children, Pamela Martin, LeeVan Martin and his son, Cory Martin and Lisa Martin Oligee and her husband, Charles Oligee and their two children, Cade and Zane; numerous sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Petty-Eastside chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Teresa Leifur officiating. Burial will follow at Steadham Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 16, 2012m from 6-9 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
There will be military body bearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Cory Martin, Shane Martin, Cairra Martin, Cade Oligee and Zane Oligee.
A family service was held at St. Anna’s Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anna’s Church, 100 Lynn McGhee Dr., Atmore, AL.
Larry Clifford ‘Pee Wee’ Spicer

Mr. Larry Clifford ‘Pee Wee’ Spicer, age 56 of Brewton, died on April 13, 1956 at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton.
Mr. Spicer was a native of Brewton and had worked 40 plus years as a truck driver in the transportation industry. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Ray’s Chapel in Bogia. He was preceded in death by his parents, B.C. and Ruthie Spicer and a brother, Billy Spicer.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Spicer of Brewton; daughters, Stephanie (Jason) Morgan of Byrneville; Mandi (Larry) Kinley of McDavid; Alicia (Harold) McGhee of East Brewton; brothers, Tom Spicer of Chumuckla, Mike Spicer of Chumuckla, Johnny Ray Spicer of Century; sisters, Mary Ard of Chumuckla, Shirley Thomas of Pensacola;and nine grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, April 15, 2012, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Nathan Brown and Rev. Chip Barbas officiating. Interment will follow in Ray’s Chapel Cemetery in Bogia.
Michael Preston Goodlander

Michael Preston Goodlander, 62, of Cantonment, passed away Friday, April 13, 2012, after a brief illness.
Michael was a native of Harrisburg, PA. He resided in Gateswood, AL, until 1996 at which point he moved to Cantonment.
He was retired from Champion International. He proudly served our country in the U. S. Navy during Vietnam and has been a life time member of the American Legion Post 340.
Michael is preceded in death by his father, William Goodlander and his stepfather, Melvin Lee.
He was a loving and generous husband, Daddy and Paw Paw. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Lee and his loving wife of 42 years, Beverly Jenks Goodlander. He is also survived by his one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey M. and Heather Goodlander; one daughter and son-in-law, Mitzi and Michael Carrea and four beautiful grandchildren that he adored. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and David Williamson and a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Kay Goodlander and many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2012, at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at the funeral home.
Martha Ann Cunningham

Mrs. Martha Ann Cunningham, age 73 of Flomaton, passed away on April 12, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Cunningham was a native of Mobile and had been a member of the Flomaton community for the past four months. During her working years, she worked as a cosmetologist and she was of the Jehovah Witnesses faith. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ely and Louise Neidhart Bradley; her husband, Martin Otis Cunningham; her daughter, Cheryl Cunningham; brothers, Charles Edgar Bradley and Ely Joseph Bradley; and sister, Betty Lou Turner.
Mrs. Cunningham is survived by her brothers, Norman (Gladys) Bradley of Mobile, David (Dannie) Bradley of Atmore; sisters, Dell (Eddie) Frye of Mobile, Linda (Andre’) Deslonde of Flomaton.
Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Ann Cunningham will be held on Monday, April 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. graveside at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile with speaker Walter Crigler.
Interment will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery with Flomaton Funeral Home directing.
Reather Olene Lowery

Mrs. Reather Olene Lowery, age 89, of Century, FL passed away on April 12, 2012, at Jay Hospital.
Mrs. Lowery was a native of Canoe and a resident of the Century community for most of her life, was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Lowery was preceded in death by her parents, Bart and Carrie Hobbs; husband of 51 years, Clinton Lowery; brother, Edward Hobbs; sister, Lois Hobbs; two great grandchildren, Toni Hammond and Nicole Lowery.
She is survived by her son, Johnny Clinton (Wanda) Lowery of Century; daughter, Evelyn (Ray) Hammond of Century; sister, Mildred Croley of Century; five grandchildren, Eddie Hammond, Tammy Lowery, Terri (Joey) Chiles, Jennifer (Chris) Read, Clint (Amanda) Lowery; seven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday evening, April 13, 2012, at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 6-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fred Stallworth officiating. Interment wil follow in Flomaton Cemetery.

James Russell McCurdy

James Russell McCurdy age 71 of Jay FL passed away, Saturday, April 7, 2012, in Brewton.
Mr. McCudy was a life- long resident of Jay. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict and was the owner and operator of the McCurdy’s Auto Garage for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Ida Lee McCurdy He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Paula Sue McCurdy; son, Keith McCurdy; and brothers Glen (Judy) McCurdy, Douglas McCurdy and Eugene “Shorty” (Carol) McCurdy.
A visitation was held Tuesday April 10, 2012, at Jay Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Jay Funeral Home. Graveside services followed at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors.
Jay Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Robert “Dakoda” Brannon

Robert “Dakoda” Brannon, age 18, of Molino passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012. Dakoda was born on December 12, 1993, in Pensacola, Florida. He was an avid LSU fan, outdoors enthusiast who enjoyed fishing, hunting, racing, and time at the beach and river. He had a huge heart for all his family and friends and could always put a smile on everyone’s face. His friendships were important to him and were cherished dearly. His fun-loving personality, smile, and laugh will never be forgotten. His passing has broken many hearts that will last a lifetime, but his life will forever be remembered by all his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his great grandfather Gerald Brannon.
Survivors include his father, Rubin O’Donovan III; his mother and stepfather Brande Brannon Broxson and Jay Broxson; his brother Rubin O’Donovan IV; grandparents Don and Wendy Russell, Robert E. Brannon, Rubin and Sheila O’Donovan; great grandparents Don and Bernadette Godwin and Betty Brannon; uncles and aunts, Randy and Brooke Brannon Brasch, Wayne and Crystal Manoso; special cousins, Kaley and Megan Leonard, Katelynn Brasch and Mandy Broxson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North-Cantonment with Father Raymond Mullins officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Serving, as pallbearers will be Austin Kalfus II, Cody McCarty, Tyler Moore, William Dalton Oglesby, Joe Kittrell and Jesse Crumpler. Family will receive friends after the service at 7910 Chellie Road, Pensacola, Florida 32526.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour to service time.
Family request that in lieu of flowers friends make donations to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Dakoda Brannon’s memory.

Kathryn H. Whitmann, age 92 of Cantonment, passed away on April 9, 2012.
Kathryn was born in Pensacola in 1919 and retired from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Laura and John Hendrix; daughter, Patricia A. Lawless; great grandson, Preston L. Stringer; sister, Augusta Sullivan; brother, Julian D. Hendrix; sister in law, Marian Hendrix. Mrs. Whitman is survived by her grandchildren, Rebecca P. (Richard L.) Cornelius, Cynthia E. Douglas; great grandchildren, Rachael N. (Jason) Clark, Johnny R. Stringer, Jr., Joshua A. (Morgan) Douglas; great-great grandson, Lennon N. Clark; niece, Janet (David) Wymann.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 11 from 5-8 p.m. at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. graveside at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens.
James “Micah” Gates

James “Micah” Gates – September 21, 1981 to April, 2012. He was a born in Milton, FL and a long time resident of Cantonment, FL. Micah was a talented artist and poet full of creativity and generosity. He loved to be around family and friends ready with a smile and a helping hand.
He is survived by his father, Ricky Gates and his mother Leah Pagan. Also, his loving sister Amber and brother-in-law Zac Holobaugh, his Aunt Theresa and Uncle Barry Pedigo as well as his Uncle Rusty and Aunt Sherry Gates. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 10th at 2 p.m. at the home of his Aunt Sue: 451 E Ten Mile Rd, Pensacola, FL 32534.
Micah is dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. You remain forever in our hearts.
