Dorothy Stacey Snellgrove

Atmore resident, Dorothy Stacey Snellgrove, age 95, passed away at her home on Friday, November 1, 2024. She was born February 13, 1929, in Fountain, AL and was a graduate of Barton Academy High School.  After graduation, she attended business school and began her career of data processing until her retirement at age 62. Later in 2008, she moved to Atmore and became a member of Huxford Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Jessica Lee Griffin and her granddaughter, Angie Potter.

She is survived by her sons, Terry Dale (Jennifer) Snellgrove and Roger (Diane) Browning; four grandchildren, Jamie Lee Browning, Shannon Messick, Roddy (Aaron) Browning and Wesley (Katie) Browning; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other family members.

She touched many people in her lifetime and will be sorely missed.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any local animal shelter.

Rodney Scott Owens

Dr. Rodney Scott Owens, age 71, of Atmore, AL, passed away on November 3, 2024, at his residence.

Dr. Owens was born on June 30, 1953, in Texas to Tolbert and Bessie Marie Richerson Owens.  He was a graduate of Escambia County High School and later graduated in 1992 from the Doctor of Chiropractic Program at Life University in Marietta, GA.  Dr. Owens was a member of Grace Fellowship Church and the former mayor of the City of Atmore.  He is preceded in death by his mother and father.

Dr. Owens is survived by his wife, Donna Morris Owens; his sons, Johnathan (Angelique) of Atmore, AL and Jason (Melissa) of Birmingham, AL; his sister, Marilyn Davidson of Atmore and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church.

Franklin D. Barnes, Sr

Mr. Franklin D. Barnes, Sr., age 83, passed away Friday, November 1, 2024, at a Century, Florida healthcare facility.

Mr. Barnes was born in Bay Minette, AL and had been a resident of Brewton for over 50 years, coming from New Mexico. During is working years he was a superintendent at Smurfit Stone. He was a gospel singer and enjoyed playing softball, working out and fishing. He was an avid Auburn football fan. He was a member of Alco Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Wilson Barnes; his parents, Burns and Mabelle Barnes; brother, William Travis Barnes; and a sister, Ann Hillman.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Barbara Barnes of Brewton; four sons, Lonnie (Chrissie) Barnes of Flomaton, Johnny (Jeanne) Barnes of Brewton, Matt Barnes of Gulf Shores, Brad Blackwell of Brewton; a daughter, Jennifer Blackwell of Brewton; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Zion Hill Cemetery with Bro. Lee Jernigan officiating.

Pallbearers: Logan Barnes, Travis Barnes, Derek Raines, Braden Blackwell, Cameran Bell.

Marvin Wrecil Shehan

Mr. Marvin Wrecil Shehan, age 71, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 29, 1953, in Atmore, Alabama, where he lived his entire life.

Mr. Shehan loved spending his days riding horses and driving cow trucks. The open fields and fresh air made him happy as he enjoyed the thrill of being outdoors. In the evenings, he liked to gather with his family, playing his guitar and singing songs together. These moments brought them closer, filling their home with laughter and music. Whether he was on horseback or strumming his guitar, Mr. Shehan cherished every moment spent with the things he loved and the people who mattered most to him.

He is preceded in death by his parents W.T. Bud and (Fannie Mae Shanks) Shehan; brother, Rusty Shehan.

He is survived by his son, Marvin Russell Troy Shehan of Atmore, Alabama; sister Rebecca Shehan (Doug) Rolin of Atmore, Alabama; cousins, Robin Palmeri of Atmore, Alabama, Darlene DeFee of Atmore, Alabama and a host of other cousins and family members.

Leon Stewart

For 94 years, Leon loved people. And people, all over the world, loved him. He lived a life of service for others because of his love for God and people.

Leon was born on December 5, 1929 to Rev. J.W. and Susie Stewart in the small community of Pineville FL. In his late teens he began to lose his vision and by age 20 was declared legally blind.

He was saved in 1947 and called to the ministry in 1949. That fall he entered Holmes Bible College. In 1952 he graduated, was ordained and married Donna Dooley. He had an active ministry as follows: 1952-1969 IPHC Pastor and Alabama Conference Superintendent; 1969-1981 IPHC Assistant General Superintendent; 1981-1989 IPHC General Superintendent; 1989-1991 Southwestern College President; 1991-2003 Pineview AL Pastor; 2003-2018 Speaker at many community churches, mentor to pastors and an active telephone ministry.

An author, Leon published Too Late in 1958, followed by The Preacher in 2001 and The Betrayal in 2006.

From the sixties thru the eighties Leon traveled extensively. He and Donna visited over 60 countries around the world. One of the major blessings in Leon’s life was pastoring Pineview. In his words, it was the “most meaningful and fulfilling ministry” in his career.

Leon is survived by two daughters, Dianne and Denise; two granddaughters, Lara and Karen; three great-grandsons, Benjamin, Elijah and Ashton; and many nephews/nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 8, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Tommy McGhee officiating. A private interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 8, 2024, from 9 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Houston Carlos Gohagin

Mr. Houston Carlos Gohagin, age 81, passed away, Friday, October 25, 2024 in Huxford, AL, surrounded by his loved ones. He was a native of Atmore, AL. He retired from Exxon Mobile and also served in the Army.

Mr. Gohagin, affectionately known as “Gunslinger,” found joy in the great outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, he spent countless hours at the river, soaking up nature’s beauty. His love for Alabama football was well-known among friends and family. Gardening brought him peace, and he often shared outdoor cookouts where laughter filled the air, attracting a crowd to his skinning shed. Above all, he cherished time with his family and his best buddy, Brodie, making memories that would last a lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard (Lucille McKinley) Gohagin, one daughter, Carla Wasdin, three brothers, Howard Gohagin, Buford Gohagin, and Rayford Gohagin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Faye Gohagin, of Huxford, AL; one daughter, Neely (Gary) Baggett, of Walnut Hill, FL; one brother, Milford (Darlene) Gohagin, of Atmore, AL; three grandchildren, Mallory Crysell, Brittany Shamblin, Kasey Drew, seven great-grandchildren, Brodie Rolin, Autumn Rolin, Corbin Crysell, Caleb Shamblin, Holden Drew, Houston Drew, Hardy Drew, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 28, 2024, Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, with Bro. Mark Peacock and Rev. Larry Beauchamp officiating.

Burial was at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Norris Brooks, Adam Young, Cody Kent, Kevin Spence, Larry Gohagin, and Marty Kent.

Honorary pallbearers were Leroy Smith, George Foster, Larry Hadley, Judd Mason, Dolphin Gohagin, and Grant Gohagin.

Adren Wyleen Stacey

Adren Wyleen “Joe” Stacey, 86 was born on April 8, 1938 in Monroeville, AL. He fought the fight and the battle is over and his victory is in Jesus. Joe went in peace on October 26, 2024 to be with his Lord and Savior. Adren was known to most as “Joe” until he became Poppie. He had many careers in his 86 years. His first Job was at the Strand Theater as a young teenager. Over the years he worked at A&P, was a farmer, drove a milk truck then became a business owner of Stacey’s Grocery, Stacey’s Drive-In and Drew’s Army Store. He retired from Winn Dixie after 10 years upon his retirement he never truly had a hobby so he took up landscaping yards and took pride in his work.

Joe served in the Army National Guard for many years. He was a member of the Gideons International and a faithful member of Brooks Memorial Baptist Church. He loved his family, his church but most of all his wife Martha of 64 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Mazie Stacey and one brother and six sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Martha Bartley Stacey, son Quincy (Caroline) Stacey and one daughter Faith (Larry) Miller; two grandchildren, Megan Miller, Elliott Miller; many nieces and nephews and one grand dog Bella.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 2 PM at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tim Tew, Bro. Randell Jernigan and Bro. Randy Jones officiating.

Interment was in Serenity Gardens Cemetery in Atmore.

Active pallbearers were Larry Miller, Elliott Miller, Quincy Stacey, Luke Jernigan, Jerry Rolin and Bradley Rolin.

Franklin “Buddy” Biggs

Franklin “Buddy” Biggs, 80, of Atmore, AL passed away October 26, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on January 8, 1944 to the late Otto and Katie (Brantley) Biggs in Peterman, AL. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He had worked at Monsanto earlier in his life, then went to work at Alabama River Pulp where he was a Bleach Plant Operator and then later retired. He was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Biggs enjoyed raising cattle, hunting, fishing, sitting on his porch drinking coffee and watching the hummingbirds. He was an avid Alabama football fan. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Frances Marie Lambert Biggs and his sister Alice Faye Biggs. He loved his family and he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his two sons, Dennis Biggs and Rodney (Lisa) Biggs, both of Atmore, AL; one brother, Thomas “Tommy” Biggs of Minnesota; his Grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Weaver, Kristen (Kenny) Biggs and Tiffany (Paul) Adams; Great-Grandchildren, Britton (Emma) Morris, Brayden Blackwell, Gracie Weaver, Kamryn Blackwell, Kaylee Adams and Bryant Adams, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 10 AM at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joel White officiating. Interment will follow in Woods/Mothershed Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Britton Morris, Brayden Blackwell, John Lambert, Trent Lambert, Ronnie Lambert and Norman “Peanut” Lambert.

Donnie Joe Victor

Donnie Joe Victor, age 68, of Byrneville, FL passed away on October 19, 2024 in Atmore, AL. He was born to K.P. Victor and Sarah Long Victor on October 25, 1955 in Atmore, AL and raised in Christian Home, McDavid, FL. Donnie was an Ernest Ward graduate and attended Holy Grown Holiness Church. He was a heavy equipment operator for Escambia County, AL and the City of Atmore for years prior to retiring. Donnie is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Kathy Hall, Alice Merchant and her husband, Steve and Faye Victor; his brothers, Jimmy Victor and Phillip Victor; his niece, Angel Hall and nephews, J.R. Victor and Tony Merchant.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Sandra White Victor; his sons, Donnie Jason Victor and James Brandon Victor; his sisters, Janie (Billy) Criswell and Londi (Ray) Himes; his brother, Johnny Victor; his grandchildren: Kymberlee, Emmalee, D.J., Chassity, Bubba, and Sadie along with his great grandchildren: Ashton, Ryder, Saige, Tyler, Ayla and Kayleana.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Floyd officiating. Interment will follow in Christian Home Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be John Fowler, Cody Fowler, PJ Thomas, Randall Morris, Ray Himes and Jerry Haskew.

Ouida Louise Troutman McGill

Mrs. Ouida Louise Troutman McGill, age 88, passed away, Tuesday, October 22, 2024 in Atmore, AL, surrounded by her family. She was a native of Atmore, and a dedicated member of Brooks Memorial Baptist Church with a bright spirit that reflected her love for life. She retired as a telephone operator for Southland Telephone Company with many years of service.

Mrs. McGill enjoyed tending to her yard, where her hard work showed in the beautiful lawn she maintained. Watching her sons and grandchildren play sports brought her great joy, and she cherished quiet moments with a good book and her favorite shows, Wheel of Fortune and Brenda Gannt Cooking. Known for her delicious cooking, she made the best cornbread, lima beans, pound cake, and biscuits, and she never missed a chance to prepare a special cake for her family’s birthdays. With her morning coffee in hand, she also loved cheering for Alabama football and softball. Above all, Mrs. McGill adored spending time with her family, embodying the warmth and charm of a true Southern lady.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl (Maggie Mason) Troutman; husband, Lowell Stephen McGill, Sr; two brothers, Fredrick “Shorty” Troutman and Leon Troutman; and three sisters, Margaret Lockwood, Mary Mayson and Doris Cooper.

She is survived by her three sons, Lowell Stephen “Steve” (Janet) McGill, Jr; of Atmore, AL; Mark (Suzanne) McGill, of Atmore, AL; Bryan Wade (Farrah) McGill, of Atmore, AL; six grandchildren, Whitney Maholovich, Jordan Jones, Amanda Strawbridge, Haden McGill, Rease McGill, Wade McGill; seven great-grandchildren, Grady Jones, Will Strawbridge, Corbin Strawbridge, Thatcher McGill, Molly Jones, Jase Maholovich, Norah McGill; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes with Rev. Tim Tew officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 10 a.m. until service time at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes.
