Cary Sylvester Hanks

Mr. Cary Sylvester Hanks, Sr., 81, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015, in Pensacola.
Mr. Hanks was a native and lifelong resident of Bratt, other than his years of serving in the military. Mr. Hanks was retired E7 U.S. Army with 20 years of service, worked with Intercostal Pipeline with 15 years of service and worked at Century Correction Center. He was a member of the Bratt First Baptist Church.
His wife, Juliaette Wearren Hanks, precedes him in death.
He is survived by his two sons, Cary S. (Anne) Hanks, Jr. of Maylene, AL and Steven L. (Theresa) Hanks of Bratt; one daughter, Susan (Rick) Amerson of Bratt; one brother, Howard (Myrle) Hanks of Bratt; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 6, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the Bratt First Baptist Church with Rev. Delbert Redditt and Rev. Jesse Wood officiating.
Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery with full Military Honors.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 6, 2015, from 2 p.m. until service time at the Bratt First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jeremy Hanks, David Amerson, Chris Amerson, Brett Hanks, Davy Hanks and Ricky Fretwell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sr. Adult Men Sunday school class.

Audrey Marie Sims

Audrey Marie Sims, 52, of Century, passed away Monday, June 1, 2015, in Flomaton. She was born on November 5, 1962, in Milton. She was a seamstress with Lajenes Fabrics. She is preceded in death by her stepfather Rev. James Bruce Richardson.
She is survived by her mother, Rosie Richardson of Flomaton; her father and stepmother, Aubrey (Darlene) Summerlin of Mobile; one son, Tommy (Lawanda) Macks; and one daughter, Marlena Macks all of Flomaton; two sisters, Teresa Summerlin and Lisa Tackett both of Mobile; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 5, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Flomaton with Rev. Kathleen McKinley and Bro. Alvin Brantley officiating.
Burial will follow in Red Oak Missionary Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 4, 2015, from 6 – 8 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Flomaton.

Sherry Louise Chase Cato

Sherry Louise Chase Cato, age 69 of Jay, died Thursday, May 28, 2015, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Cato was a native of Oswego, New York and had resided in this area for 38 years where she was employed as a bartender and a cashier. She was previously a Registered Nurse.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert N. Cato; and two sisters, Glenda Comins and Maxine Schack.
She is survived by her sons, John (Tina) Bowman, Herbert Bowman, Douglas (Penny) Bowman, and Patrick (Melissa) Fagnan; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Dora McEarhern, Sheila (Charles) Sweeney, and Martha and Tom (Krolikowski) Stephens.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Patrick Fagnan or a charity of your choice in honor of Sherry Louise Cato.

Jesse Taylor III

Mr. Jesse Taylor, III age 64 of Atmore, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015, at his residence.
Mr. Taylor was born in Brewton and was a life time resident of Escambia County. He worked as a finance manager at Johnson Ford in Atmore, and was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Taylor, Jr. and Charlotte Ann Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Wanda Sue Taylor of Trenton, GA; a son, Jesse (Crystal) Taylor, IV of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter, Sara (Rodney) Devers of Castleberry, AL; a brother, William Bartlett Taylor of Brewton; a sister, Anna (Michael) Barlow of Cumming, GA; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home in Brewton with Rev. Clyde Madden officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m.
Slyvia Jackson Graves

Mrs. Sylvia Jackson Graves, age 53 of Brewton, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at her home.
Mrs. Graves was a native of Brewton and a resident of the Brewton community since 1979 coming from Jay. During her working years she worked in the convenience store industry and was of the Assembly of God faith. She is preceded in death by her father, Calvin Jackson.
Mrs. Graves is survived by her mother, Eloise Muse of Bratt; daughter, Tamika Graves of Brewton; brothers, Ken Jackson of Bay Minette and Randy Jackson of Gulf Breeze; granddaughters, Kalee Delane Burkett and Tatum Shyanne Crumpton.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 31, 2015, at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Pat Carden officiating.
Interment was in Beulah Cemetery in Brewton.
Pallbearers were Randy Jackson, Ken Jackson, Danny Evans and Bo Burkett.

Patricia Louise Gainey Sasser

Patricia Louise Gainey Sasser, a resident of Cottage Hill, won the victory on May 27, 2015, at Joyce Goldenberg Hospice. She was 68 years old.
Mrs. Sasser was born August 12, 1946, in Pensacola to B.T. and Juanita Gainey. She was a graduate of Pensacola High School where she was known as a gifted pianist. She was married to Rev. James W. Sasser, Sr. for more than fifty years. Beginning at the age of 12, Mrs. Sasser served as pianist at various churches and was the military chapel organist in Izmir, Turkey. She was a faithful and supportive pastor’s wife. She also served many years in children’s ministry but her greatest joy was serving her own children, grandchildren and her husband.
Mrs. Sasser is survived by her husband, James W. Sasser, Sr.; three children, Katherine (Randy) Jackson, James Sasser, and Charles (Leigh) Sasser; nine grandchildren, Brett Wilson, Kevin, Sean, Julie and Hannah Jackson, Cade, Jake and Ella Sasser, and Charley Sasser; two sisters, Sharon (Ron) Kimbro and Reba (Bobby) Kimbro; a brother-in-law, Ray (Elaine) Sasser; a sister-in-law, Sue (Marty) Townsend and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, B.T. and Juanita Gainey and a premature infant.
Funeral services will be at Highland Baptist Church in Molino on Monday, June 1, 2015, at 9 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, at 11 a.m. Services will be led by Rev. Brian Calhoun, Rev. Randy Jackson, Rev. Charles Ellzey, and Rev. Darryl Woolery.
Pallbearers are Kevin and Sean Jackson, Cade and Jake Sasser, Byron Ellis, and Bruce, Bryan and Michael Kimbro.
The deacons of Highland Baptist Church are honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Russell Forest Bell, 84, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, in Pensacola.
Mr. Bell was a native of Moyeville, Alabama and a resident of Atmore since 1957. Mr. Bell was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved his family. He was a member of the Nokomis Baptist Church. His wife, Nettie Bell; parents, Arthur J. Bell and Jewell Bell; one brother, Tharon Bell; and two sisters, Gloria Bell and Juanita Bell precede him in death.
Survivors include his daughter, Charlene (Ron, Sr.) Moxness of Walnut Hill; four brothers, Arthur Bell, Jr. of Brewton, Roscoe (Tommi Lee) Bell, O’Neil (Kathryn) Bell and Roger Bell all of Flomaton; eight sisters, Virginia Moye of Pensacola, Mildred (James) Lambeth of Flomaton, Eva Lou (Tom) Pittman of St. Stevens, AL, Luverne Lowry of Foley, Judy (Gary) Clay of Foley, Jean (Don) Fritts of Lillian, AL, Willanet (Ken) Barksdale of Lillian, AL and Cathy (Curtis) Cook of Cantonment; two grandchildren, Lindsey (Steven Powell, Jr.) Moxness and Ron Moxness, Jr., all of Walnut Hill; one great-granddaughter, Lakelynn Grace Ikner of Walnut Hill.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 30, 2015, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Hutto officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Kathryn Joseph Adams Huie

Kathryn Joseph Adams Huie, born on March 27, 1923, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 28, 2015. She was a member of Pensacola First Assembly of God and she with her first husband, which predeceased her, Quincy E. Adams were Charter Members of the Ferry Pass Assembly of God Church now known as Courts of Praise Fellowship.
She was always active in church when she was physically able to do so. She also enjoyed cooking for family and friends, she loved fishing, camping, and enjoyed bowling. Kathryn served many children over the years as she worked in school lunch rooms in various schools in the Escambia County School System. Her last few working years before retirement she served in the position of lunchroom manager.
Kathryn and Quincy were not able to have children of their own, but considered as a son, John (JoAnn) Danley and she considered Miranda (Jimmy) well as Kristen, Wyatt and Lilly Dudley as her great-grandchildren and great-great granddaughter, Emma. Together they also helped to raise several foster children that were entrusted into their care. Kathryn came from a large family and had numerous siblings, many of which have predeceased her. She is survived as well by many special nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Regency Hospice for all their assistance over the last few months.
Visitation will be held on Monday June 1, 2015, from 10-11 a.m. at Eastern Gate Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Scruggs officiating.
Burial will follow at Whitmire Cemetery.
Velma Hollingsworth

Mrs. Velma Hollingsworth, 56, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2015, in Mobile.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore. Mrs. Hollingsworth was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. She was a member and pianist at the United Pentecostal Church. Her parents, Robert and Lillie Mae Rolin precede her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Hollingsworth of Atmore; one daughter, MaKayla Rolin of Atmore; one step-daughter, Bessy Hollingsworth of Walnut Hill; one brother, Robert Harold Rolin of Atmore; four sisters, Lillie Bell (AutryLee) Tucker of Atmore, Mary Jane McGhee of Atmore, Willie Faye Thomas of Atmore and Thelma (Jerry) Williamson of Uriah; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 1, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the United Pentecostal Church with Bro. Steve Pendleton and Bro. Steve Bercida officiating.
Burial will follow at the New Home Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Marshall Rolin, Greg McGhee, Shay Gipson, John Burns, Cody Nall and Nick Flowers.

Joyce C. Little

Joyce C. Little, 74, of Jay, died May 30, 2015 at her home due to the effects of cancer.
Mrs. Little was born July 23,1940 in Pensacola, Fla., to Crawford and Alice Myers-Carnley of Jay. Mrs. Little, who was raised in the Ebenezer community, graduated from Jay High School in 1958. During high school, Mrs. Little began working as a bookkeeper at Griffin Tractor Company in Jay and then moved on to Monsanto in Pensacola, where she worked for two years before starting a family. Later in life she would go on to work in several Bible bookstores and eventually retired as the secretary of Jay First Baptist Church in 2000. During all this time, Mrs. Little served faithfully as a pastor’s wife in three Southern Baptist churches located in Louisiana and Florida. Her joy came from working with children in each church teaching them God’s word and directing children choirs, sometimes traveling to other churches with them to perform musicals. Mrs. Little was a member of Cora Baptist Church, in Jay, where she spent many years teaching children’s Sunday school classes, VBS and leading in children’s choir. She was also a member of the adult choir and the Women on Missions group.
Mrs. Little loved many things in life – her husband, children, grandchildren and her brothers and sisters being her heart. She loved cooking for her family and friends and spent countless hours in the kitchen teaching each of her grandchildren to cook. The only thing she loved more was being in the outdoors, working in her yard planting and transplanting flowers and plants of all kind. She was independent and active every day of her life touching so many people in the process by sharing God’s love.
Mrs. Little is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, the Rev. Thomas Little, Jr., of Jay; two sons, Gilbert (Deb) Little of Ft. Worth, Texas and Jeffrey Little of Pensacola; one daughter, Janet Little Cooper of Jay; four brothers, Earl (Edna) Carnley of Pensacola, Ray (Anne) Carnley of Milton, Jimmy (Karen) Carnley of Pace and Ricky (Shelly) Carnley of DeFuniak Springs; two sisters, Dorothy (Joe) Botts of Milton and Linda (Randy) Tarleton of Lakeland, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Charles Walsingham of Milton and Skip Warren of Milton; two sisters-in-law, Frances G. Carnley of Lakeland and Betty (Lamar) White of Atmore; three grandchildren, Meredith Little of Ft. Worth, Texas, Austin Cooper and Bryant Cooper, both of Jay; and many nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Little was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Thomas and Susie Nelson Little of Jay; granddaughter, Reagan Reid Little; one brother, the Rev. Jack Carnley of Lakeland; and two sisters, Bonnie C. Walsingham of Milton and Judy C. Warren of Pace.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015, from 3-5 p.m. at Cora Baptist Church in Jay. Funeral services will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the Rev. LaDon Hall and the Rev. Delbert Redditt officiating.
The deacons of Cora Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to thank Dr. C. David Smith of Jay who discovered Mrs. Little’s cancer three years ago and referred her to doctors, Stephen Theis and David Fiveash at UAB and the use of the Joe Lee Griffin Hope Lodge while she received treatment in Birmingham. A special thank you is extended to Sharon Murell of Century, for her devotion, sacrifice, compassion and love shown to Mrs. Little as her caretaker and to Summer Stuckey with Hospice, for taking excellent care of Mrs. Little in the nursing home and then again at home.
