Robert H. Maxwell

Robert H. Maxwell, retired Atmore lawyer, died Friday, April 6, 2018. He was 90 years old.
Maxwell is survived by his two sons, Richard King Maxwell (Bess) of Atmore and Dr. David Hamilton Maxwell (Jeanne) of Tuscaloosa; six grandchildren, Mallory M. Downey of Orange Beach, Richard Chapman Maxwell (Katie) of Atmore, Regina M. Allen (Carl) of Pelham, Amanda Bridges Maxwell of Greenville, SC, Robert Hamilton Maxwell II of Tuscaloosa, Kathryn Street Maxwell of Tuscaloosa; and six great grandchildren, Leslie Austin Downey, Harrison Maxwell Downey, Richard Warner Maxwell, Douglas Hamilton Maxwell, William Chapman Maxwell, Gilbert Talmadge Allen and numerous nephews and nieces. Mr. Maxwell was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Hattie Mallory King Maxwell and his four brothers, W. Randolph Maxwell of Miami, George T. Maxwell of Pensacola, Joseph W. Maxwell of Fairhope, and Dr. Benjamin C. Maxwell of Atmore, and by his parents , W.R. “Dolphie” Maxwell and Mary Talmadge Maxwell of Atmore. He was a graduate of Escambia County High School. In 1944 Maxwell enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and saw service in the South Pacific and in China. He was a 1951 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law and practiced that profession until his retirement in 1998. While a student at The University of Alabama he held membership in Phi Eta Sigma scholarship fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega service group, Phi Alpha Delta legal organization, and Sigma Chi social fraternity. In the latter organization, Maxwell served successively as president and house manager.
Maxwell was a member of local and state bar associations, and in October, 1995 he was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States. He was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Atmore where for many years he served as trustee, choir member, Sunday School teacher and department superintendent. He was a member of the Atmore Lions Club and the Atmore Jaycees, in which he served as president. He also served as state vice president of the Alabama Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was member and former chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Mobile, and from that university he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters in 2001. Maxwell was an incorporator and founding director of United Bancorporation of Alabama, Inc., and for 29 years was a director and corporate secretary of United Bank. Maxwell served for 12 years as a member and secretary of the Utilities Board of the City of Atmore, and for a number of years he was a member of the Alabama State Oil and Gas Board. Maxwell was active in political affairs, having served as a member of the Escambia County Republican Executive Committee from its inception in 1962, and for 12 years he was a member of the Alabama counterpart of that committee. In 1998, he won the Republican primary election and contended for a seat on the Alabama Supreme Court.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Atmore with the Rev. Arnold Hendrix, Jr. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, with Johnson- Quimby Funeral Services in charge of arrangements.

Wayne Cox

Wayne Cox, 46, of Pace, FL, passed away in a tragic accident on Saturday, March 31, 2018.
He had a love and passion for fishing and hunting that he shared with his best friend, his wife Lisa. He took part in many tournament trails and was proud to be a pro-staff member of Blazer Boats, Big Bite Baits, Bass Pro Shops, and many others. The friends he made along the way were numerous and meant so much to him. He spent his career in the HVAC industry. When not working or fishing, Wayne enjoyed spending time with the grandkids, friends, and family and loving on his big boy Rosco who completely adored him. Wayne carried a large presence and boisterous personality, and if he wanted to, he could put a smile on anyone’s face. He will be sorely missed by anyone lucky enough to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Cox, step-daughter, Vanessa Leger (Jason), grandchildren, Emory, Adeline, Isla, Olive, and Everett, father, Jack Cox (Pat), mother, Gail Cox, brother, Bobby Cox (Bobbie Sue), sister, April, nieces, Courtney, Haley, and Alexis, mother-in-law, Bertha Blacksher, brothers-in-law, Dale (Dianna) and David (Roxanne), sisters-in-law, Carol (Bruce) and Teresa (Brian), and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Catch A Dream Foundation or Cast For Kids Foundation.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North beginning at 11:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 1:00 p.m.

Elizabeth Ann Johnson Tharp, 75, surrounded by her family, went to live with her Savior on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 after a brief hospitalization.
Born at home on June 29, 1942 in Pineview Community, Escambia County, AL, she lived in Pensacola, FL and was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and homemaker and a faithful member of Pinehaven Missionary Baptist Church, Pensacola.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Calvin Nile Tharp, Pensacola; her children Melissa Lucille Bond (Joel Jr.) of Perkinston, MS, Sharon Elizabeth Rigby (Jimmy Lynn, Jr.) of Paxton, FL, Timothy Kevin Tharp of Pensacola, and lovingly claimed as adopted child Christine Wilson Nieves (Jeffrey) of Pompano Beach, FL; grandchildren Naomi Elizabeth Bond Fairley (Ethan), Nathan Joel Bond, Reuben James Bond, Ruth Evangeline Bond, and Levi Jeremiah Bond all of Perkinston, MS; Joshua Lynn Rigby (Victoria) of Samson, AL and Caleb Nile Rigby of Paxton, FL; and Adam Timothy Tharp of FL and Adriane Nicole Tharp of Connecticut; and adopted Bianca and Enso Nieves of Pompano Beach, FL; Great Grandchildren are twins Nahtelie Lissa and Bethanie Lynne Fairley, of Perkinston, MS, Anna Leigh Rigby, Micah Lynn Rigby, and Lily Elizabeth Rigby all of Samson, AL and David Wayne Rigby, of Andalusia, AL. Elizabeth Ann was preceded in death by her parents Nathaniel and Lois (Nall) Johnson, and her siblings Flora Mosley, Gay Hall, Violet Joyce, Myrtle Louise Eden (Floyd), James Burl Johnson (Virginia), Betty Jean Riddle (Carl), and Thomas Mitchell Johnson (Norma), and nephew Carl Thomas Riddle.
All services will be held at Faith Chapel North Funeral Home, Cantonment, FL. Pallbearers are the six grandsons Joshua, Caleb, Adam, Nathan, Reuben, and Levi. Visitation is from 5-9 pm on Friday, April 6 with funeral services at 10 am on Saturday, April 7 and interment immediately following at the Halls Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy 113 North, Flomaton, AL.
William E. Bagwell

William E. Bagwell, age 88, of Pensacola passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018.
Mr. Bagwell was born in Spartanburg, SC and resided in Pensacola for the past 65 years. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and retired from Daniel’s Construction. Preceding Mr. Bagwell in death is his wife, Margaret Bagwell.
Survivors include his son, Terry Bagwell (Brenda); sister, Barbara Williams; four grandchildren, Rhianon Marsh (Paul), Caitlin Bagwell, Ethan Bagwell (Lauren) and Makenna Bagwell; and three great grandchildren, Kaleb Marsh, Emma Marsh and Aubrie Bagwell.
A graveside service will be held in the Masonic Gardens of Pensacola Memorial Gardens on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 3 p.m.
Robert A. Stoner

Robert A. Stoner of Cantonment passed away peacefully on Friday, March 30, 2018.
He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 14, 1928. He then moved to Elberta, Alabama, and then to Pensacola after marrying the love of his life, Mildred Cain.
He was a veteran, having served in the US Army during the Korean War as a marksman. After his military duty he became a parts salesman for Muldon Motor Company and Key Ford up until his retirement.
He was a long-time member of First Pentecostal Church and attended every Sunday until he was unable to do so.
Mr. Stoner was preceded in death by his father, Clifford, Robert Stoner, his mother Lydia Belle Raigner and his beloved wife of 57 years, Mildred M. Stoner.
He is survived by his sister, Leona Smith; sons, Thomas R. (Kathleen) Stoner, Clifford C. (Marie) Stoner, and Joseph A. (Deanna) Stoner; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind dear friends Earleen and Gaynor Perkins, Betty Roughton, Aubrey English and Linda Morrell.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 4, 2018, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m at Faith Chapel North.
Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Paul Welch and Rev. Brian Kinsey officiating.
Interment will follow at Whitmire Cemetary.
Pallbearers will be Clifford Stoner, Joseph Stoner, Robby Stoner, Zack Stoner, Bert Wynne and Michael Misky.

Eugene “Captain” Nall, age 67, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2018. He loved fishing, hunting, frisbee golf and cornhole. He really enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Eugene is preceded in death by this father, Charles Nall; mother, Ann Nall; and sister, Nelda Sindoe.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 37 years, Alice Nall; daughter, Shelly Holmstrom; sister-in-law, Terry (Kenny) McDonald; brother-in-law, Mike (Donna) Peterson; many nieces and nephews and his loving companion, Crystal (his pet dog).
A memorial service (gathering of friends) will take place on Monday, April 9, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.
Patricia Ann Patterson Hall

Patricia Ann Patterson Hall, 66, born to the late Aubrey and Pauline Patterson, was called home to be with our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ on March 30, 2018. Her brothers, Royce Patterson, Raymond Patterson, and Eugene Patterson were waiting for their sister up in heaven with their fishing poles ready to fish out of the great Crystal Sea. Patricia, known by most of friends and family by Pat, was born on August 17, 1957, in Red Level, Alabama. She lived in Red Level until 1980, at which time, she and her husband, Calvin, along with their young family made a home in Jay, Florida. Pat was married to Robert Calvin Hall in 1968 and would have been married for 50 years this June.
Pat worked as the breakfast manager of Hardees in Brewton, Alabama for many years until being hired at Vanity Fair in Milton, Florida where she worked until the doors were closed. She then decided to attend Locklin VoTech, in Milton, Florida where she studied Culinary Arts.
Pat enjoyed many things including spending time with her family, hunting, going out to eat, shopping, cooking, going on trips, watching her favorite TV show (Swamp People) and most of all, fishing. Until her health declined, she was active in her church, First Baptist of Jay, participating in Jollie Jays and volunteering at the church’s clothes closet. She truly loved helping people in need along with her Aunt Lucile Carlile, wife to the late J.T. Carlile.
Pat is survived by her husband, Robert Calvin Hall; three children, and two sons-in-law, Eddie Hall, Ammie Melissa (Luther) Peebles, and Jennifer (Wesley) Simmons; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Stevie Peebles Day (Isiah), Elizabeth Peebles Duddy (J.D.), Summer Simmons (Will Baker), Zachary Simmons, Caleb Hall, Mekinleigh Day, Alayna Day, Samuel Drake Baker, and Audrie Ann Baker; her sister, Peggie Dianne Patterson Morris (wife of the late Charles Morris); and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, and friends.
Family visitation will be held at 12 p.m. and friends and family visitation will follow at 1 p.m., followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at South Church of God, Red Level, Alabama. Pastor Josh Holloway of Jay Church of Christ and Pastor George Fredricks of Jay First Baptist will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be Brian Haveard, Gage Collier, Calvin Wallace, Skylar Zamjahn, Dionte Sanchez, Brett Kennedy, David Morris and Joey Barrow.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Patterson, Royal Patterson, Aubrey Patterson, Bradley Haveard, Brandon Haveard, Mark Wallace, Dewayne Thorne and Casey Kennedy.
The family wants to thank all family and friends for all their love and support during this time.

Mr. James Daniel “Danny” Dunsford, Jr., age 55, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at his home in Flomaton, AL.
Mr. Dunsford was a native and lifelong resident of Flomaton, AL. He was of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his father, James Daniel (Judy) Dunsford, Sr. of Grand Bay, AL; mother, Angie Gilmore (Bill) Weaver of Byrneville, FL; wife, April W. Dunsford of Flomaton, AL; one son, Steven Zachary Dunsford of Flomaton, AL; two daughters, Amber D. (Brandon) Smith of Atmore, AL and Ashley M. Dunsford of Byrneville, FL, and and Samantha Lambeth of Flomaton, AL; three brothers, Stephen F. Dunsford of Byrneville, FL, C. Douglas of Grand Bay, AL and Terry W. Dunsford of Grand Bay, AL; two sisters, Angela F. (Tommy Lee) Johnson of Century, FL and Patricia L. Dunsford of Grand Bay, AL; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 2, 2018, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Hawkins officiating.
Burial was at the Byrneville Methodist Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Buster Nall, Michael Chavers, Zac Dunsford, Roy German, Brandon Smith and Mayson Dunsford.

W.T. Gilley

W.T. Gilley of Cantonment, better known to his friends and family as “Pap,” passed peacefully from this life on Friday, March 23, 2018.
Pap was born in Bratt, FL, on May 3, 1919, and lived in the north end of Escambia County all his life. Pap began his career at the old Alger Sullivan Lumber Mill in Century. He then moved to the Florida Pulp and Paper Company in Cantonment that later became St. Regis Paper Company. He worked in the shipping department of St. Regis until his retirement. He is remembered by many for helping to open and operate Gilley’s Sporting Goods in Cantonment. Many met him there over a cup of coffee and a tall tale. Pap was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the European Theater near the end of the war. While in the Bastone region, he suffered severe frostbitten feet. He was sent to a hospital in England to recover and was there reunited with his brother Ted. In recent years Pap was honored to participate in an Honor Flight to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.
He is preceded in death by his wife of seventy-one years, Louise Gilley; his son Ronnie Gilley; and his grandson, Regan Streit.
He is survived by his daughter, Frances Streit (Jim); daughter-in-law, Barbara Gilley; three grandchildren, Gina Thomas (Clay), Aaron Gilley, Ron Gilley (Janice); 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pap was a devoted member and supporter of First Baptist Church of Cantonment where he worshiped for more than 50 years. He was a lifelong hunter and fisherman; never happier than when he was in the woods or on the water with grandchildren teaching them to be good sportsmen and instilling in them principles of godly living. Many friends have rallied to support the family by helping care for Pap in recent years. Pap was thankful for these friendships, and the family is grateful not just for the friendships but also for all the tangible help and support. Special thanks to the caregivers at Homestead Village as well as Emerald Coast and Covenant Hospices.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.
Interment was at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers were Jimmy Montgomery, Jeff Perkins, Clay Thomas, Cooper Thomas, Aaron Gilley, and Jim Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of First Baptist Church of Cantonment.

Edward O’Neil Dawson

Mr. Edward O’Neil Dawson, age 80, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018, in Pensacola, Florida.
Mr. Dawson was a native and lifelong resident of Barnett Crossroads, AL. He retired from Masland Carpet plant with 32 years of service and was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Clara Dawson; two daughters, Deborah Gray and Victoria Allen; two brothers, Douglas Dawson and Gerald Dawson; granddaughter, Heather Marie Sutton and a infant great-grandson.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Myrtle Lee Dawson of Barnett Crossroads, AL; one son, Joey (Liz) Carter of Barnett Crossroads, AL; one daughter, Pamela (Kenny Hawthorne) Gavin of Pollard, AL; one brother, O’Gwynn (Mary) Dawson of New Orleans, LA; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 29, 2018, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Richburg and Rev. Mitch Lambeth officiating.
Burial was at the New Bethlehem Cemetery in Barnett Crossroads, AL.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Yuhasz, Frank Carter, Timothy Knowles, Daniel Hagen, Christopher Gray and Scott Allen.
