Mollie Lue Huggins

Mrs. Mollie Lue Huggins, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, in Atmore, Alabama.

Mrs. Huggins was a native of Perdido, AL, former resident of Bay Minette, AL and had resided in Atmore, AL for the past 5 ½ years. She was of the Assembly of God faith. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Huggins; son, Lance Arlen Huggins; parents, Ralph and Gertrude Johnson; and son-in-law, Jerry Frank Alston.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah H. Alston of Atmore, AL; three brothers, Dale (Peggy) Johnson of Molino, FL, Rev. Jerry Johnson of Huntsville, AL and Rev. Ken (Vickie) Johnson of Cantonment, FL; three sisters, Doris (W.C.) Barnhill of Molino, FL, Lois Johnson of Spanish Fort, AL and Becky (Wayne) Melton of Loxley, AL; one granddaughter, Hayden (Joel) Minchew; two great-grandchildren, Graham Minchew and Maggie Minchew, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 13, 2018, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Johnson and Rev. Ken Johnson officiating.

Burial was at the Oak Grove Assembly of God Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Wayne Melton, Adam Melton, Matthew Melton and Brandon Harigel.

Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes is in charge of all arrangements.

Dorothy Peebles

July 9, 2018

Mrs. Dorothy Peebles, age 81, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018, in Jay, Florida. Mrs. Peebles resided in Bratt, FL most of her adult life. She was a homemaker and also worked at Vanity Fair and the ribbon factory in Atmore. She also sat with the shut-ins. She was a long time member of Bratt Assembly of God where she and her husband served for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Coy & Willie Mae Gunn, four siblings, Lonnie Ray Gunn, Mildred Gunn, Francis Gunn, and Wilton Ledkins, her husband, Wilborn Peebles, daughter-in-law, Donna Peebles, and grandson, Jarrod Peebles.

She is by her sister, Bonnie Mae Peebles of Bratt, FL; four sons, Ricky (Becka) Peebles of Davisville, FL, Roger (Rene) Peebles of McCullough, AL, Randall (Cindy) Peebles of Flomaton, FL and Ronald (Darlene) Peebles of Bratt, FL; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and two more on the way.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the Bratt Assembly of God Church with Rev. Ronald Broadhead officiating.

Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 9, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Trent Peebles, Coy Peebles, Jason Peebles, Justin Peebles, Austin Snyder, Brandon Amos and Calvin Milto.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul Peebles, Lester Peebles, Raymond Peebles, Willie Peebles, Mike Gunn, Levon Little and Robert Flirt.

Blake Emory Wartenbe

Blake Emory Wartenbe, 32, of Pensacola, passed away on Friday, July 6.

Visitation with friends and family will be held on Saturday, July 14 from 10:00am-12:00pm with services to follow at Gonzalez United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Ramsey officiating. The family ask that all in attendance wear purple to the services in support of epilepsy. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Faith Chapel Funeral Homes.

Blake was born in Pensacola on May 14, 1986. He graduated from Tate High School in 2004. He worked as an account manager for Rent A Center for ten years, where he was dedicated to his work and coworkers. He enjoyed bowling, golf, playing the guitar, going to the gun range with his dad and friends, and shooting guns on his brother Russell’s property, working on his car and most of all spending time with family.

Blake is survived by his parents Lynne Wartenbe (mother), Joey and Amanda Wartenbe, sister Morgan Taylor Wartenbe; brothers Russell William Welch, Lewis James Welch III, and Jacob Edward Wartenbe; nieces Haley Morgan Welch, Madelyn Paige Welch, and Molly Payton Welch; and many dear extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Epilepsy Foundation. The family of Blake wishes to thank all friends and family who have provided their outpouring of support during this time.
Blake was a very special man who was loved dearly and will be missed by all who were influenced by his life.

Roger Edwin McCann, Sr.

July 9, 2018

Roger Edwin McCann, Sr., 94 of Pensacola passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2018. Roger fought a long and hard battle with the dreaded disease Alzheimer’s, but the time has come for him to stop the fight and rest.

Roger was born in Molino, FL on October 14, 1923, he was the first of five children born to Eddie A. and Ada L. (Fischer) McCann. He attended Tate High School, a proudly served our country in US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. Roger was a Manager-Consultant for better men’s clothing stores in Pensacola. He was a member and Past President of downtown Pensacola Kiwanis Club, and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a Charter Member of the East Pensacola Lions Club and the North Pensacola Optimist Club.

He was a very compassionate and loving man.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Doris Whitwell; sister Doris Cassady and brother Robert “Bobby: McCann.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, June; three sons, Roger, Jr. (Rebecca), Michael (Brenda) and Sean (Michelle); grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark Darling), Roger, III “Trey”, Garrick and Ryan; great grandchildren, Parker, Greenlee and Grayson Darling, Jackson and Reece McCann and Thomas Robert Beissinger; sister Louise Nicholson; brother, William “Bill” (Ethel); sister-in-law, Martha McCann; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 12:00pm Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A Private Family Graveside will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 4300 Bayou Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32503.

Alice Bush Whittington

Mrs. Alice Bush Whittington, age 87, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 in Pensacola, Florida.

Mrs. Whittington was a native of Pensacola, FL and has resided in Byrneville, FL for the past 57 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an employee at Vanity Fair, Secretary at Crary’s Dairy and Central Water Works. She was a member of the Byrneville Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years and father of her children, Sanford Bush, 2nd husband, Joe Whittington, her parents, three sisters and one brother.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Bush (Lance) Carter of Byrneville, FL and Sandra Bush (Chuck) Brown of Cantonment, FL; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Delbert Reddick officiating.

Burial will follow at the Byrneville Cemetery.

Norman Carraway

Norman ‘Duke’ Carraway, 90, of Molino, FL, passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2018. surrounded by his family.

He was born August 26, 1927, in Felda, FL. He graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1945, joined the Merchant Marines later serving in the U.S. Army. He began working for the Social Security Administration in 1956 and retired as the Assistant Manager in Pensacola after 28 years. He enjoyed many activities during retirement including farming, growing hydroponic tomatoes and cucumbers, RV-ing, fishing, bluegrass music, dominoes, and growing blueberries.

Duke was a member of Highland Baptist Church for 47 years, serving on numerous committees. He served on the board of directors of both the Council on Aging and the Speech and Hearing Board of Baptist Hospital. He was a member of the West Pensacola Lions Club, a charter member of the Molino Ruritan Club, and president of the Molino Utilities Board of Directors.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Stark and Mary Carraway; brothers, Curtis and Leslie; his first wife, Jean McDowell Carraway; and his wife of 53 years, Olene Taulbert Carraway.

Duke is survived by his children, Michael (Barbara) Beason, Steve (Vanessa) Carraway, Peggy Overman, Pamela Myrick, and Sharon (Stan) Powell; brother, Frank Carraway; grandchildren, Roy (Emily) Ryan, Gary Casity, Valerie Sanderson, Loren Powell, Kristen Edmonson, Rebecca Myrick, Tyler Carraway, Leslie (Ben) Carraway Whitson, Alex (Lexi) Edmonson; eight great-grandchildren and many friends from church and camping that meant the world to him.

Pallbearers will be Roy Ryan, Tyler Carraway, Alex Edmonson, Chuck Hendrix, Rusty Hendrix and David Perry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Purvis, James Hughes, Berman “Buddy” Kent, Bill Miller, Charles Barton, Windell Long, Harold Holder, Tom Serviss, Ed Latham and Adrian Enfinger.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2018, followed by the service at 2 p.m. at Highland Baptist Church with Bro. Brian Calhoun officiating.

Kelly Gunn

Mr. Kelly Gunn, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 in Pensacola, Florida.

Mr. Gunn resided in Bratt, FL most of his life. He was a master carpenter with expertise in refinishing wood floors. In addition, he worked in the funeral business for twenty-two years. Throughout the years, he enjoyed himself by attending the American Legion music events. Now, he will be singing with the angels. While Uncle Kelly did not have any children of his own, he was surrounded by nephews and nieces that loved him dearly. Just recently, he celebrated his 90th birthday with many family and friends at his residence in Bratt.

He is survived by one sister-in-law, Gracie Gunn of Bratt, FL, many nephews and nieces, and his wife, Louree Bailey of Bratt, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arastis and Barbie Gunn, his wife, Carla Mae Gunn, his brothers, Chester, AR, LD, Coy, and one sister, Della Ann Mason.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Peebles officiating.

Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, July 6, 2018 from 6 to 9 PM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Norma V. Green

Norma V. Green, 92, Pensacola, FL passed away June 25, 2018. Norma Green was an avid horse woman who traveled extensively to show horses with the love of her life, C.A.“Bud” Green. She and Bud hadsuch a wonderful life together, she always said “don’t worry about me, I’ve done it all’. She touched so many people throughout her life and those that knew her also knew her deep love for all animals.

She is preceded in death by her husband, C.A. “Bud” Green; sisters, Joel and Mildred; brother, Jack Richardson, and her beloved dog, “Specks”. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Schwingel and Patty Russell and her son, Rod Russell.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to her dear friend, Debbie Yates for all the love and care she gave to our mother.

Please don’t grieve for Norma-she went to God and Bud just the way she wanted…..quickly.

Judy Elaine Thompson 66, of Atmore, AL. passed away July 3, 2018 surrounded by her family and friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend and she will be dearly missed by all. She was born on November 3, 1951 in Atmore, AL. to the late Odell Donaldson and Sylvia Joan Strawbridge Johnson. She was a member of the McRae Street United Methodist Church. She was retired from Vanity Fair Mills. After retirement she owned a home day care for over 10 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Joe Johnson, brother in law Bill Phillips, nephew Chad Phillips and stepbrother Jim Johnson.

She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years Clark Duval Thompson of Atmore, AL, two sons Shayne Godwin (Ashley Harris) of Spanish Fort, AL, Blake Godwin (Marie Connors) of Bay Minette, AL, four daughters Shelley (Billy) Donald of Atmore, AL, Hope (Shawn) Lassiter of Atmore, AL, Courtney (Chris) Harrison of Atmore, AL, Valerie (Mychal) Reddix of Atmore, AL, a brother Gary Donaldson of Atmore, AL. and sisters Peggy Phillips of Atmore, AL, Patty (Gerald Parmer) of Huxford, AL, Marilyn (Danny) Stone of Birmingham, AL, sister in law Sheila Donaldson, grandchildren Megan, Caitlyn, Hannah, Baylie, Natalie, Eli, Sydnie, Kylie, Meredith, Harper, Riley, Julian, Cam, Sebastian and three great grandchildren Nikko, Aurora and Odin.

Charlotte Mae Mendenhall-Rich

Charlotte Mae Mendenhall-Rich 79, of Pensacola FL, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018. Charlotte was loved and known affectionately by many as Mother Rich.

Mother Rich was born on July 8, 1938 to Kitty Wright and Albritton Mendenhall in Camden, Alabama and raised by her Paternal Aunt Ora Lee Mendenhall-McDaniel and was the second oldest of six children. She and her family later moved to Pensacola, FL.

She and her family joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church in 1957. She later joined Oakfield Union Baptist Church where her son Rev. T. Roosevelt Rich serves as Pastor, where she served as the dedicated President of the Mother’s Board.

Mother Rich was prayerful, compassionate, loving and generous.

Her family and dearest friends are left with fond and loving memories.

Mother Rich is preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Will Rich, sons, Nathaniel and Willie Rich, granddaughter Quanteka Rich, a brother, sister, aunts and uncles and her parents.

She leaves to cherish her five children. Sons, Pastor Roosevelt (Lillie) Rich and Minister David (Patricia) Rich of Pensacola, FL and Daughters, Linda Rich of San Diego, CA., Brenda Carey and Charlotte Renee Hughes of Pensacola, FL. A Daughter in-law Bessie Ford, Brother: Leo Mendenhall, Augusta, GA, and her Goddaughter Suronico (Curtis) McIntyre, nineteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be held Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 1:00 pm at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Elder Charles Thomas, Pastor and Rev. T. Roosevelt, Pastor of Oakfield Union Baptist Church officiating.
