Johnny Braddock Mothershed

Mr. Johnny Braddock Mothershed, age 54, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018, in Mobile, Alabama.

Mr. Mothershed was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore, AL. He was a member of the Church of the Living God of Atmore. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Frederick and Gladys Luverne Mothershed; nephew, Dyan Blake Barnhill; three aunts and four uncles.

He is survived by three sons, Captain Dexter (Candius) Donnell of Huntsville, AL, Johnny (Kaleigh) Donnell of McDavid, FL and Deputy Skyler (Allison) Donnell of Jay, FL; one daughter, Hillary Donnell Mothershed of Atmore, AL; two sisters, Dean (Rusty) Hodges of Atmore, AL and Freddie Bowen of Atmore, AL; nine grandchildren, Hayden Donnell, Hydee Donnell, Harlon Donnell, Porter Donnell, Emerson Donnell, Luke Donnell, Destiny Lynn, Felicity Lynn and Angelina Lynn and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Harrison officiating.

Burial was at the Mothershed Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Skyler Donnell, Johnny Donnell, Dexter Donnell, Brandon Sutton, Steve Morris and Dennis Biggs.

Eva Pearl McBride

December 15, 2018

Mrs. Eva Pearl McBride, age 74 of the Pollard community, died December 10, 2018.

Mrs. McBride was born in Brewton and was a life-long resident of Escambia County, Alabama.  She had worked as a cook at Jay Hospital for a number of years, and was a member of Friendship Free Will Baptist Church.

Mrs. McBride was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin McBride; a son, Bruce Gavin; three brothers, Fred Lisenby, Sam Lisenby, and Collin Lee Lisenby; two sisters, Emma Wilson, Doris Windham, Granddaughter, Heather Sutton and great-grandchild; and a great-grandson, Ronnie Higdon.

She is survived by three sons, Gregory Leon (Anita) Gavin, Carey Daniel (Donna) McBride, and Melvin (Jennifer) McBride, Jr., all of Flomaton, AL; two daughters, Eva Evon McBride of Lancaster, PA, and Cindy (Mark) Brittingham of Flomaton, AL; one brother, Carl Ralph Lisenby of Pensacola, FL; sixteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at noon at Friendship Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Rusty Burnham officiating.

A time of visitation will be held at Friendship Free Will Baptist Church of Tuesday from 10 a.m.. until service time at noon.

Dewitt Gilley

December 13, 2018

Dewitt Gilley, 91, passed to his Heavenly home on December 13, 2018.  He was a native of Escambia County, Florida, having being born and raised in Bratt, Florida. After a time in the U.S. Army he spent the rest of his life in Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida until going to Westinghouse, Alabama in 2007 to be near family that could help with his care after suffering a major stroke in 2005.

Dewitt was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings and their spouses. He was also preceded in death by his daughter and her husband, Carol and Donnie Driggers.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Aurelia Gilley; son, Rev. Larry (Joan) Gilley; daughter, Andrea (Jerry) Tucker; five grandchildren, Jennifer Hartsfield, Alice Pilgreen, Shirley Gilley, Daniel Gilley, and Bethany Gilley; three great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

Dewitt loved God, family, church, fellow workers, and his many friends. He served in many capacities in his church. He was an active deacon for 50 years, RA Leader, Brotherhood Director, and Sunday School Teacher of boys. He loved choir and served on many committees. He was a WWII Veteran and had worked with Gulf Power Company for 43 ½ years. He was a member of IBEW Local Union 1005 and served as their Business Manager for many years. With each responsibility he gave total commitment. But his family never felt neglected. He always had time for family.

During the last 13 years of his life, since his stroke, he will always be remembered for his sweet smile and attitude even though his speech was taken away by the stroke. His most often referred to scripture was “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances, Phil 4:11. He was content and had a supernatural peace. What an example he has been! He was a joy to care for.

Special thanks to all who played a part in giving care but special acknowledgement to our granddaughter, Alice Pilgreen, who has been faithful and seen to our every need, especially for the last 2 years. We will miss you here but meet you in Heaven.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Bro. Larry Gore officiating.

Burial will follow in Pensacola Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. prior to services.

Beverly Ann Godwin

Mrs. Beverly Ann Godwin, 72, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at her home in Bay Minette, Alabama.

Mrs. Godwin was a native of Lauderdale County, MS and had resided in the Bay Minette-Perdido, Alabama area most of her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Tracey (George) Hendricks of Brewton, AL; two nephews, Kevin (Lee Anna) Irle of Saraland, AL and Shawn Irle of Bay Minette, AL; one niece, Tina Marmolejo of Perdido Key, FL; and three grandchildren, Kellie Michelle Hendricks, John Britton Hendricks and Logan Patrick Hendricks.

John Stanley Sanders

December 10, 2018

John Stanley Sanders, 63 of Cantonment, FL passed way Monday, November 26, 2018, in Cantonment, FL. He was a mechanic with Escambia County Mosquito Control. He was born in Atmore, AL on August 2, 1955, to the late Arlen and Velma Williams Sanders.

Survivors include his son, Joshua David Sanders; two brothers, Jerry Sanders and Richard Sanders; two sisters, Mae Hildreth and Janie Sanders.

Services were held Friday, November 30, 2018, at the Dry Springs Church.

Interment was in Dry Springs Cemetery.

Ron Scott

Ron Scott, also known as Scottie, Grandpa Scott, and Papa Ron, was born to Elsie Ibberson and William Scott in Preston, Lancashire, England on August 11, 1942. He later married Anne Gagan of Chorley, Lancashire, England on November 28, 1964. At the age of 16, Ron joined the Army and served in the famous Scots Guards. He served as a cook, stood guard duty in full regalia in front of famous landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, and was deployed to Africa during his years in the British military. His experience of cooking for the Royal family and other respected people led him to a successful career in the field of culinary arts. He and his family emigrated to the United States in 1971, where he was a professional chef at hotels in Utah and Idaho for the next 15 years. He spent the rest of his career writing restaurant operations manuals for the U.S. Army and then the Navy. The restaurants of officer’s clubs and golf courses at military bases all over the world owe their success today to his attention to detail and good taste.

To his family, friends, and associates, he was known as a man of good humor and quick wit, always making other people laugh. He was an avid BYU football fan and enjoyed watching English football. He had a few hobbies, such as art and music and was known for how much he cared for his animals.

Ron was a husband to Anne Gagan for 54 years. Together they had four children, and he enjoyed being a grandfather to 13 grandchildren. Ron loved his family and was very proud of them. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. May he rest in the light of God where perfect peace and comfort are found.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Scott.

He is survived by his wife, Anne M. Scott; children, David Scott, Steven Scott, Gordon Scott and Anne-Marie Schoonover; siblings, Laurence Scott, Brian Scott, Raymond Scott and Victoria Margarete Scott Geilman.

Pallbearers were David William Scott, Steven David Scott, Gordon Joseph Scott, Gordon Joseph Scott II, Gabriel Jordon Scott and Troy Gordon Schoonover.

Honorary pallbearers were Brian Scott, Laurence Scott, Raymond Scott, Jude Benjamin Scott, Thomas James Schoonover and Troy Spencer Schoonover.

Services were held on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Bishop Jake Smith officiating.

Interment was at Gonzalez United Methodist Church Cemetery, Cantonment, FL.

Toni DiAnn Haupert Boutwell

Toni DiAnn Haupert Boutwell, 64 of Atmore, AL, passed away December 8, 2018, in Atmore. She was born on July 31, 1954, in Atmore to Tony Jacob and Mazie Hanks Haupert which later preceded her in death.

She completed four years of Bible College and became an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God. During her ministry she became co-director of Teen Challenge and was very active with New Life for girls. She was a member of Beulah Chapel Assembly of God.

She is survived by her godchildren, Heather Hudson Murphy and Joshua Hudson; two sisters, Rose Marie Weaver Gibson and Carolyn Haupert Faust; nieces and nephews, Cindy Walker and Susan (Josh) Johns, Doyle (Elaine) Weaver, Anthony (Linda) Weaver, Randy (Vickie) Weaver, Mike Weaver, Jimmie Faust, Joey Faust, Micky Faust; two great-nephews, Christopher (Melissa) Weaver and Bryant (Christina) Weaver. She is survived by her special friends and caregivers Polly Johnson, Doris Godwin, Gwen Morton, Tina Hennington, Cheryl Odom and several aunts and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at 11 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gene Hudson and Bro. Tim Floyd officiating.

Burial will follow in Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Joe Faust, Jimmy Faust, Randy Weaver, Anthony Weaver, Willie Wilson and Arnold Burkett.

Jean Ann Brouwer Edeker, 67 of Atmore, AL, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018, in Pensacola, FL. She worked in retail. She was born in Kalamazoo, MI on May 7, 1951, to the late James E. and Pearl Brouwer, Sr.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Carnley of Atmore, AL; son, Joshua Edeker of Jay, FL; step-sons, Robert (Holly) Carnley of Huxford, AL, Randy (Alycia) Carley of CA; one brother, Jim Brouwer of MI; grandchildren, Kahyleb Edeker, Katelyn and Jacob Carnley.

Frankie Baggett

Frankie Baggett, 69 of Loxley, AL, passed away on December 6, 2018, in Mobile, AL. He was born to the late Claude Hamilton and Rosie Arrington Baggett on July 31, 1949. He worked for Sun Belt Chemical and worked in the paper mill industry most of his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Loxley. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jimmy Baggett, Gene Baggett; and his sister, Carolyn Baggett.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jeanne Johnson Baggett of Loxley, AL; children, Becky Bryan of Atmore, AL; Neely (Jonathan) Martin of Poarch, AL; Jason (Kacie) Baggett of Doha, Qatar; Douglas (Stephanie) Baggett of Haughton, LA; and a brother, Kenneth Baggett of Walnut Hill, FL and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 9, 2018, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jeff Copeland officiating.

Burial was in Canoe Freewill Baptist Cemetery.

Orley Joseph Adams

Mr. Orley Joseph “Joe” Adams, age 60, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018m at his home in McDavid, Florida.

Mr. Adams was a native of Three Rivers, MI and had resided in McDavid, FL for the past 22 years. Joe was retired from the US Navy with 21 years of service, serving in various duty stations around the world and aboard the following ships, RTC Great Lakes Illinois (June 1976), MS (A) School (September 1976), Diego Garcia (January 1977), Adak Alaska (January 1978), USS Lexington CVT 16 (January 1979), NTC Corey Station (1980), USS R.E. Byrd DDG 23 (1982), CBC Gulfport Mississippi (1986) and Kitty Hawk CV 63 (1988). He was a former employee at Crary’s Dairy, the Florida Department of Corrections with 14 years of service and a member of the McDavid United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Lee Cunningham and sister, Rebecca Pauline Graves.

He is survived by his father and step-mother, Gary and Janet Rose Adams of Monroe, MI; wife of 22 years, Ruth Crary-Adams of McDavid, FL; two sons, Garald “Hank” Adams of Pensacola, FL and Edward Luther “Big Ed” Adams of Pensacola, FL; one brother, Gary John (Cathy Marie) Adams of Monroe, MI; two grandchildren, Tommie Willow Adams and Ivy Josephine Adams; one step-brother, Daniel (Mary) Adams of Michigan; one step-sister, Joanne (Bill) Godfrey of Michigan; mother-in-law, Dean Crary of Century, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. David W. Cook officiating.

Burial will follow at the Crary Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 5, 2018m from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
