Linnie Barnhill Johnson

Mrs. Linnie Barnhill Johnson, age 94, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2019 in Atmore, Alabama.

Mrs. Johnson was a native of Milton, FL and had resided in Atmore, AL for most of her life. She was a Christian Mother, loving family lady, very loving and giving to family and friends, employed with Vanity Fair and was a caregiver for many years. She was of the Pentecostal Faith. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Cornelia Barnhill; husbands, Ira Carpenter, Clay Whitehead and Roy Johnson; one son, Jerry Carpenter; two daughters, Edna Mae Carpenter and Marilyn Welch; four sisters and four brothers.

She is survived her three sons, Melvin Carpenter of Perdido, AL, Steve (Gayle) Carpenter of Atmore, AL and Raymond (Rebecca) Carpenter of Bratt, FL; one brother, W.C. (Doris) Barnhill of Molino, FL; twelve grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren and fifteen great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Sis. Eloise Stewart officiating.

Burial will follow at the Serenity Garden Cemetery.

Ronnie Morris

June 17, 2019

Mr. Ronnie Morris, age 58, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at his home in Jay, Florida.

Mr. Morris was a native of Jay, FL, former resident of Bratt, FL and had resided in Jay, FL for the past five years. He was a loving father, brother, avid fisherman, woodworker and retired from Swift Lumber Company with 37 years service. He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Mary Morris; two brothers, Alton Morris and Preston Morris and infant son, Michael Morris.

He is survived by his daughter, Ariel Morris of Jay, FL; brother, Mason (Debra) Morris of Jay, FL; sister, Vivian Joiner of Jay, FL; two special nephews, Shannon (Cheri) Joiner of Jay, FL and Jeremy Morris of Jay, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Lay officiating.

Burial will follow at the Sardis Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 1:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Randon Watson, Jeremy Morris, Thomas Rhoades, Cody Bell, Frank Lowry and Mickey Diamond.

Judy Strength

Mrs. Judy Strength, age 91, of Flomaton, AL, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, FL.

Mrs. Strength was a native of Enterprise, AL, and had been a member of the Flomaton community for 24 years coming from Pensacola. During her working years, she worked as an independent financial agent and in real estate industry. She was a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church where she was very involved serving others and enjoyed vacation Bible school. Mrs. Strength was preceded in death by her daughter, Paula Smith; husbands, James A. Patterson, Frank L. Smyer, II, and Harold Strength; son-in-law, Hubert Smith, and grandson, Matt Butler.

She is survived by her sons, Doug (Sue) Patterson of Cantonment, FL, and Frank L. (Judy) Smyer, III of Pace, FL; daughter, Pam Patterson of Flomaton, AL; sisters, Evelyn Shepard of Mobile, AL, and Jan Hudson of Huntsville, AL; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; special friends, Linda Albritton, Dusty and Celrusa Godwin, James and Joyce Nix, and Ina and Robert Newton.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Little Escambia Baptist Church from 1 until 2 P.M.

Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Little Escambia Baptist Church at 2 P.M. with Rev. Jonathan Hill, Rev. David Nicholes, and Dr. Larry Patterson officiating.

Interment will follow in Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery, Chumuckla, FL.

Pallbearers will be Jack Morris, Jimmy Johnson, James Nix, Peyton Williams, Dusty Godwin, and Paul Peadon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bo Brantley, Robert Newton, Ronnie Darby, DeWayne Arnette, Jimmie Butler, and Neal Miller.

Per Mrs. Strength’s wishes all attendees are asked to wear a shade of purple.

James Isham Dykes

June 11, 2019

James Isham Dykes, 83, passed peacefully surrounded by family on June 10, 2019 in Pensacola, FL.

Jim was born on March 2, 1936 in Fountain Springs, TN to Virginia Phillips Dykes and William Lee Dykes. Jim attended Central High in Knoxville, TX and then went onto Texas Tech University where he played 3 years of varsity football. Upon leaving school he served as a police officer in Miami, FL and then Pensacola, FL where he resided for more than 40 years and eventually started a business. He was known in the local community as KraZ Jim, owner and operator of a full-service filling and automotive repair station for over 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara; sons, Chip, Jim, Deke, Keith (Brooke) and Jimmy (Jessica); plus 5 grandchildren, Taylor, Gunnar, Peyton, Parker and Miller. He is also survived by his older brother, Edwin Dykes; and 2 nieces and their families. He also leaves behind countless happy memories.

Jim and Barbara took great pleasure in raising their family. Most weekends, they could be found on their boat, fishing or frequenting areas around the gulf coast. As their kids grew older, weekends on the water were replaced by weekends at the ballpark. After the kids’ playing days were over, they continued their adventures on the waterways and later became fans of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. They could often be found in attendance at their games.

Services will be held Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home, 1000 S Hwy 29, Cantonment, FL 32533. Visitation will be from 11:30-12 with service beginning at 12. Reception to follow.

Maurice W. Johnson

Maurice W. Johnson passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019, in Pensacola, FL. He was born September 12, 1932, in Pensacola, FL. Maurice was retired from the United States Navy with 36 years of service to our Country. Maurice was a member and elder of Summerdale Church of Christ. He served 40 years on the Board at Pen Air Federal Credit Union. Maurice was known for his wit and humor.

Maurice is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Johnson, Sr., and Iris Creighton Johnson; infant son, Philip Johnson; brother, Richard Johnson and sister, Iris Maurine Johnson. Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lovie Whitehorn Johnson; three children, Teresa Kichler (Jerald), Kenneth Johnson, and Richard Johnson (Martha); five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Sam Johnson (Evelyn) and sister, Velma Rigney; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at 6:00 PM, at Summerdale Church of Christ, 1070 AL-59, Summerdale, AL 36580. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Church. Billy Lambert will be officiating. Graveside services will be June 4, 2019, at 1:30 PM, at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, FL.

James “Jim” Magnum

June 11, 2019

James “Jim” Magnum passed away on May 31, 2019. Jim was born on April 5, 1956 in Lansing, Michigan to Jack and June Magnum.

He moved to Florida at a young age.

He leaves behind two children, his daughter, Lisa (Josh) Weems and son, Michael Magnum. Two grandsons, Aiden and Noah Weems. His two sisters, Janet (Darrell) Smith and Judy (Joseph) Magnum are also left to cherish his memory. As well as numerous lifelong and close friends.

Jim worked hard as a business owner in Pensacola. When he wasn’t working you could find him enjoying the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Faith Chapel North on Friday, June 14th at 10:30 am. A reception will follow.

Jim will be missed dearly by all those closest to him.

Sheila Booth Gulsby

Sheila Booth Gulsby resident of Cantonment, FL passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the age of 71.

Ms. Gulsby was born January 1, 1948 to the late Jack Noble Booth and Dorothy Jeanette Booth.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Shelley Prince and her husband, Michael; her grandchildren, Shelby Prince, Shiloh Prince and Mason Prince; her brothers, Doug Booth and his wife, Louise, Charles Booth and his wife, Cindea, Michael Booth and his wife, Bonnie; her sister, Jackie Stevens and her husband, David; her nephews, Wade and Charles Booth and her nieces, Jordan and Kayla Booth.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019 in Jordan Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Doug Booth, Charles Booth, Michael Booth, David Stevens and Michael Prince.

Connie Mack Booker

Connie Mack Booker passed away to be with the Lord on May 28, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

He was a paper mill brat. He would say the paper mill smell was like bacon and eggs to him. His father, wife’s father and himself all Retired from St. Regis, then Champion which is now known as International paper. In his younger years he was a volunteer at the Cantonment Fire Department and worked as an EMT for Escambia County. He loved woodworking and fishing.

Connie Mack is preceded in death by his father, Wilma T. Booker; mother, Mary Jean Whitfield Booker; maternal and paternal grandparents; and his wife Cheryl’s parents who truly thought he was the best.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Graham Booker; son, Curtis Booker; daughter, Christin Taylor; grandchildren, Shelby, Courtney, Madison, Brianna, and Brandon; great-grandchildren Grayson and Maci; all of Cheryl’s brothers and sisters, Faye, Margie, Jerry, Linda, Tommy (Liz) and Peggy (Chuck);, and one very special Aunt Mary; and lots of nieces and nephews.

Everyone that knew him loved him. He was such a humble person and would give you the shirt off his back even the days he wasn’t feeling good. He has fought an ugly fight that finally won. But while he was sick it never stopped him from being like the energizer bunny. His wife always called him that.

The family would like to say thank you to each and every person that loved, helped and supported him during his illness. Thanks again every one of you made a special impact in his life and he loved you.

The family would also like to thank Cheryl’s sister Linda for everything she did to help out while he was sick. From staying in Gainesville, taking him to doctor’s appointments, or just checking on him while he was at home sitting in his shop. Linda, we know it was a lot but he truly appreciated everything you did and loved you like a blood sister.

So glad he is no longer suffering and able to rest in peace.

Mildred Day Jones

Mildred Day Jones, 94 of Atmore, AL, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019, in Atmore, AL. She worked as a manager of the fabric department at T.G.& Y and was a supervisor at Vanity Fair Mills. She was born on November 17, 1924, in Covington County, AL to the late John Bernard andVera Dreadin Day.

She is preceded by her parents; husband, David Freeman Jones; three brothers, Joel Day, Winston Day and Raymond Day.

Survivors include her two sons, David (Rita) Jones and Gerald (Emily) Jones all of Atmore, AL; one brother, Wendell (Diane) Day of California; four grandchildren, Jon, Don, Michael and Jonathan; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Martha Nelson Milstead

June 6, 2019

Mrs. Martha Nelson Milstead, age 76, of McDavid, FL, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at her home. She was a life-long member of the Century and McDavid communities, and was of the Baptist faith. During her working years, she worked as a seamstress for Vanity Fair Clothing Manufacturing, and as a RN at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Milstead was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Lennie Sue McArthur Nelson, and her husband, Shorty Milstead.

She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Milstead of McDavid, FL, Doodle (Dennis) Jordan of Byrneville, FL, and Robin (Mickey) Peterson of McDavid, FL; sisters, Flora Mae Williamson of Flomaton, AL, Linda Baggett and Edna Wiggins, both of Brewton, AL; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 1 until 2 P.M.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel at 2 P.M. with Bro. Sam Weaver officiating.

Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Bratt, FL.
