Robert Lee Gates, Jr.

Mr. Robert Lee Gates, Jr., age 74, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2019, in Pensacola, Florida.

Mr. Gates was a native of Robinsonville, AL, former resident of Atmore, AL and had resided in Walnut Hill, FL for the past 40 years. Captain Gates was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict where he was wounded and received two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars and a Silver Star. He was a Tug Boat Captain for 50 years where he was accident free for the those 50 years and was a member and former deacon at the Antioch Freewill Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Alice Ruth Gates; parents; Robert Sr. and Vonnie Gates; three brothers, Charles Gates, Floyd Gates and Glennard “Buddy” Gates; baby sister, Ruth Augustine Gates; son, Martin Russell Lassiter and special friend, Wayne Burkette.

He is survived by his two daughters, Linda Lassiter-Hamilton of Panama City Beach, FL and Rebel Gates Howard of McDavid, FL; one brother, Bobby Ray Gates of Freemanville, AL; two sisters, Bonnie Williams of Atmore, AL and Wilerneese Cole of Atmore, AL; seven grandchildren, Russell, Tosha, Tabitha, Lauren, Hannah, Haden and Martina; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 26, 2019, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Minister Brad Sullivan officiating.

Burial was at the Antioch Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Salvador B. Perez, Johnny Robb, Richard Burkette, Mark Burkette, Joe Clay Howard and Floyd Geary Gates.

Honorary pallbearers will be Coach Burkette and Chadwick Cook.

Clayton Joseph Cagel

October 26, 2019

Clayton Joseph Cagle was born December 29, 1987, in Pensacola, FL, as the only child to Philip and Sarah Cagle. He passed away on October 21, 2019, in Walnut Hill, FL. A dozer operator and welder by trade, he was a proud father and loving husband who devoted his life to his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding around his yard on the lawn mower.

He is survived by his wife, Heather Cagle; his sons, Luke and Collin Cagle; father, Philip Cagle; and many other family members.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Cagle; his aunt, Connie Ryal; his Mammaw and Pappaw; and cousin, Justin Tyler Ward.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 25, 2019, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.

Michael Fredrick Tyler

Michael Fredrick Tyler, age 67 of North Baggett Circle, Brewton, AL passed away October 20, 2019 at his residence. He was a long-time resident of Escambia County AL and of the Baptist faith. Michael was retired from the US Air Force after 20 years of service as a Technical Sergeant, Radar Specialist and Instructor. Michael was the Fire Chief of the Appleton Volunteer Fire Department for 20+ years and presiding President of the Escambia County Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments for 10 years.

Michael loved working daily at the Fire Station, as well as working to refurbish old vehicles. He made it a practice of never sitting around and was well known to not quit talking… Mike and his wife/Safety Officer Ginny always had their saying of “Wheels Up” anytime they headed out for a Fire call or just to run an errand….

Wheels up Michael… You’ve earned your rest!

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 6-8PM at the First Baptist Church of Brewton.

Roberta Robbie Hicks

Roberta Robbie Hicks, age 41, passed away October 19, 2019, after an extended illness.

Robbie was born November 12, 1977, in Gainesville, Florida but was raised in Pensacola. She was married to her best friend, Jonathan Hicks.

She is preceded in death by her father, Curtis Simmons; mother, Debra Simmons; and grandmother, Susie Adkins.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jonathan Hicks; two daughters, Ashley Wright and Karrissa Griffin; and son, Thomas Griffin; sister, Heather (Jon) MacArthur of Pensacola; Curtis Simmons II (Amanda) of Alabama and several cousins nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Jay Funeral Chapel with visitation one hour prior.

Burial will follow at Cora Baptist Church cemetery.

Leonard Ray Hardy, Sr.

Leonard Ray “Pete” Hardy, Sr., 76, of Atmore, AL, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019, in Atmore. He was a retired farmer. He was born in Atmore, AL on December 14, 1942, to the late Joseph and Hattie Phillips Hardy. He is preceded in death by his parents; two children, Wendy Michelle Hardy and Leonard Ray Hardy, Jr.; two sisters, Lucille Zeringue and Lois Hall; and three brothers, Louie Hardy, Leslie Hardy and Lamar Hardy.

Survivors include one daughter, Kim Rolin; grandson, Coty (Brook) Rolin, all of Atmore, AL; two great-grandchildren, Zhoie and Sadie Rolin; five sisters, Latisha Phillips, LaBetty (Gene) Singleton, Sarah (Hoyt) Coon, all of Atmore, AL and Linda Garrick of NC and Lanette Hardy of Atmore, AL; and grand-puppy, Brodie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 24, 2019, at 3:30 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery with speaker Marlin Metzler officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Betty Wells

Betty Wells, 88, of Byrneville, FL, passed away October 21, 2019, at her residence. She was born in Canoe, AL on July 18, 1931, to the late Marvin Ernest and Katie L. Davis Hall. She was a secretary for the FBI and was a church secretary at Calvary Assembly of God in Orlando, FL before retiring. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard “Dick” Wells; and sisters, Julia Johnson and Martez Rutherford. Mrs. Wells enjoyed traveling, sightseeing, raising her tropical birds and gardening.

She is survived by her son, John Wells of Merritt Island, FL; three daughters, Elizabeth Wells of Wausau, WI; Anne (Tim) Jewett of Chuluota, FL. and Leah (W.C. Jr.) Sanders of Byrneville, FL; one brother, Jerry Hall of Century, FL; and Jackie Brown of Bratt, FL; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Graveside services will be Friday, October 25, 2019, at 2 p.m. in Godwin Cemetery in Bratt, FL.

Marvin Ray Richburg

Mr. Marvin Ray Richburg, age 79, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019, in Pensacola, Florida.

Mr. Richburg was a native of Century, FL and had resided in the Cantonment, FL area since 1986. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving with the US Army retiring as Sgt. 1st Class with 24 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved fishing and hunting and was of the Baptist faith. He is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Hannelore Richburg; parents, Jim and Ruth Richburg; brother, James Roy Richburg; and nephew, Jeremy Morris.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Paige Richburg of Cantonment, FL; two sons, Marvin Franklin (Shari) Richburg of Granbury, TX and Alford George Richburg of Milton, FL; one daughter, Patricia Paola (Rick) Wessel of Cantonment, FL; one sister, Mary Buck of Atmore, AL; two grandchildren, Jon Michael Bowers and Eric Wayne Bowers; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Tony Richburg officiating.

Burial was at the Barrancas National Cemetery.

Ida Bell Harris Hall

Mrs. Ida Bell Harris Hall, age 87, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019, in Atmore, Alabama.

Mrs. Hall was a native of Little River, AL, former resident of Davisville, FL and had resided in Atmore, AL since 1975. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. Mrs. Hall spent her life as a homemaker and loving matriarch for her family. She was notorious for her selflessness and heart of gold for people and animals alike. She was loved immensely and will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Gordon Hall, Jr.; son, Frank Hall; parents; three brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her son, Rev. Ronald (Janice) Hall of Poarch, AL; daughter, Susie Hall of Canoe, AL; sister, Lillian “Bounce” Curry of Perdido, AL; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 24, 2019, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Waylan Stuckey and Rev. Ronald Hall officiating.

Burial will follow at the Pine Barren Cemetery.

Stephen Eugene Masek, 69, of Molino, FL, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2019, at his residence. He was a general contractor. He was born in Lincoln, NE on December 1, 1949, to the late Floyd Eugene and Henrietta Otto Masek.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include one son, Michael Jason Masek of Alabama; two daughters, Rachael Lynn Masek of Pensacola, FL and Stephanie Lee Masek of Molino, FL; three brothers, Michael Carl Masek, Bruce Masek, and Nathan Paul Masek; two sisters, Melody Robertson and Bethanie Masek; and three grandchildren, Ashley, Marcue, and Grace.

A private gathering will be held on the family farm at a later date.

Pauline Viola Mininger Harms

Pauline Viola Mininger Harms, 96, passed away October 15, 2019, at Oak Wood Manor in Brooksville, MS. She was a homemaker. She was born on September 26, 1923, in rural Gratiot County, Michigan to the late Emanuel and Hattie Freeman Mininger.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marshall Harms; one son-in-law, Howard Nickel; one granddaughter, Heidi Peaster; one great-grandson, Justin Dyck; four sisters; three sisters-in-law; and four brothers-in-law.

She is survived by three daughters, Jane (Newell) Mininger of Barron, WI, Nancy (Dwayne) Peaster of Brooksville, MS and Janice (Merle) Koehn of Moundridge, KS presently serving at the Sarasota, FL Mission; one son, Terry (Judy) of Murray, KY; 19 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; nine step-great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vada Seiler of Brooksville, MS and Elgene Martinez of San Antonio, TX; one brother, Bob Mininger of Moundridge, KS; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Benner of Brooksville, MS, Ruth (David) Benner of Middleberry, IN, Janis Harms of Daphne, AL, and Thelma (Gerald) Boeckner of Walnut Hill, FL; one brother-in-law, Don Harms of Montezuma, KS; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Services were held Saturday, October 19, 2019, from the Walnut Hill Mennonite Church with Rev. Mike Koehn, Rev. Galen Harms and Rev. Jamie Wedel officiating.

Interment was in Walnut Hill Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers were Chad Nickel, Van Nickel, Camron Peaster, Marwyn Peaster, Alston Koehn, Andrew Koehn, Arlin Koehn, and Sheldon Toews.
