Paul Henry Dickerson, Jr.

Paul Henry Dickerson, Jr. was born February 24, 1947. He passed away November 5, 2020. He was born in Dothan, AL and grew up in Rutledge, Alabama. He graduated from Luverne High School in 1965, where he played football and played the trumpet in the band. He attended Alabama Christian and the University of South Alabama where he earned a B.A. in English, a M.S. in Education, and M.Th. in Theology.

He was very active in the Church of Christ; he ministered to congregations in Blackmon Florida, Brewton, Flomaton, and Atmore Alabama for over 30 years. He taught English and was a High School Guidance Counselor at Flomaton and Escambia County High Schools. He refereed football and was an avid photographer. He enjoyed fishing and drag racing.

Married to Ruth Dickerson on December 31, 1982 and were married for 37 years.

Paul is survived by his wife Ruth; his three daughters and one son, Mandy and David Green, Leila Airhart, Paul Dickerson, and Sarah and Marcus Caraway; five grandchildren, Marion Green, Zoey Green, Brennan Dickerson, Grayson Dickerson, and Layton Dickerson; his sister Barbara and Billy Helms.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul H. Dickerson Sr. and M. Gertrude Dickerson; and his niece Jennifer Faulk.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 13, 2020, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Stuart Dickerson, Bro. Jeff Helms and Youth Minister Greg Faulk officiating.

Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Scott Grissett, Brandon Turner, David Green, Michael Dean, Gabe Vines and Cliff Joyner.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the American Parkinson Association at P.O. Box 61420 Staten Island, NY 10306.

Doris Spears Hundley Phillips

Doris Spears Hundley Phillips passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, November 8, 2020. She was 89 years old. She was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina but has lived in Pensacola for the last 60 years. Doris was a wonderful wife, an amazing mother, and a loving grandmother and great grandmother. She loved spending time with her family. She was our matriarch, our confidant, our friend, and now our “angel”. Her sweet spirit was truly special and to know her was to love her.

She will be remembered by her husband, Phil Phillips, and her children and step-children, Vickie (Grady) Reeves, Walter (Sheri) Hundley, Vanette Webb, Verna Hundley, Debbie (Randy) Hill, Jeff Phillips, David (Shawn) Phillips. She will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Jason (Elly) Reeves, John Reeves, Amy (Will) Drinkard, Christi (Christopher) Powell, Joshua (Chelsea) Webb, Jaime Webb, Alison (Adam) Leja, Katie (Colton) Plumley, Kristen (Kenny) Sappington, Jennifer (Craig) Cooper, Audrey (Rick) Harter, Emily Beatty, Frank (Danelle) Phillips, Caleb (Crystal) Phillips and Tyler Brogan. Finally, continuing her legacy are her beloved great grandchildren, Will, Drew, Ben, Kate, Mary Francis, Mary Hollis, Grace, Caden, Chase, Gwyneth, Tristan, Zachary, Noah, Ella, Elliott, Allie, Kade and Tori.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Brite and William Clarence Spears, her sisters Evelyn Grogan and Pat Spears and her brother Bill Spears.

Funeral Services were held Thursday, November 12, 2020, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.

Burial was at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Will, Drew and Ben Reeves, Will Drinkard, Christopher and Caden Powell, Adam Leja, and Kade Sappington.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the ICU nurses at West Florida Hospital, especially Chelsea, Megan and Jillian, for taking such great care of our mother/grandmother. Your care and kindness were much appreciated during this difficult time.

Christopher Shawn Caraway, age 34, of Atmore, AL passed away on November 5, 2020, in Mobile, AL. He was born on September 28, 1986, in Atmore, AL to William and Sherry Caraway.

He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Bonita White; his aunt, Sharon Freeman and his niece, Jesslyn Caraway.

He is survived by his wife, Brittany Jackson Caraway of McCullough, AL; his parents, William and Sherry Caraway of McCullough, AL; his children, Hunter Drake Caraway, Christa Alana Caraway, Marlin Ruger Caraway, Kenzly Delane Caraway and Jaxtin Coltwilder Caraway; his grandparents, Pete and Janie Caraway of McCullough, AL; Sammy and Christine White of Flomaton, AL; his brother, Jessie (Emily) Caraway of Atmore, AL; his mother and father-in-law, Elizabeth and Steve Cox and his special friend, Nikki McGhee.

Graveside services were held Monday, November 9, 2020, at the Caraway Family Cemetery with his brother, Jessie Caraway officiating.

Robert Earl Godwin

Mr. Robert Earl Godwin, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, in Mobile, Alabama, at Providence Hospital.

Mr. Godwin was born in Atmore, Alabama, and was a lifelong resident of Bratt, Florida. He was a farmer in Escambia County, Florida and Alabama. He was a partner and the manager at West Florida Gin Company and was a former owner and pilot with Atmore Flying Service.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. and Sibyl Godwin; and brother Larry Godwin.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elaine Godwin of Bratt, Florida; one daughter Cyndi (Scott) Warren of Pensacola, Florida; one sister Shirley (Jim) Riggs of Atmore, Alabama; three grandchildren, Jarrod (Kate) Dawson, Allie Warren and Davis Warren; special friend Heath Ward, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 8, 2020, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Barry George, Pastor Tim Payne and Bro. Theron Collinsworth officiating.

Burial followed at the Godwin Cemetery in Bratt.

Pallbearers were Jarrod Dawson, Rusty Godwin, Roger Riggs, Heath Ward, Davis Warren and Scott Warren.

Linda Cheryl Rolin

Linda Cheryl Rolin, age 58, of Atmore, AL passed away on October 28, 2020. She was born on October 12, 1962, in Atmore, AL to the late Judge and Irene Tatum Rolin. She was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Ruth Rolin and Barbara Kimmons and her brother, Glen DeWayne Rolin.

She is survived by her brothers, Issac (Edna) Rolin of Atmore, AL and Jerry (Nadine) Rolin of Brewton, AL; her sisters, Alice Rolin of Atmore, AL and Lorene Rolin of Atmore, AL; her brother-in-law, Raymond Kimmons and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 6, 2020, at Poarch Baptist Church with Pastor Guy Heath and Bro. Melvin Rolin officiating.

Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, AL.

Active pallbearers were Kenny Rolin, John O’Barr, Lane Macks, Allen Fowler, John Brantley, Sr. and Cody Fowler.

Leo B. “Sonny” Maher III

Mr. Leo B. “Sonny” Maher, III, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 in Pensacola, Florida.

Mr. Maher was a native and lifelong resident of McDavid, Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo Jr. and Eula Maher and his former wife, Mary Nell.

He is survived by his four sons, Gary (BJ) Maher of McDavid, FL, Tommy (Melissa) Maher of Cantonment, FL, Chris (Joni) Maher of Pensacola, FL and Kenny (Marsha) Maher of Byrneville, FL; two daughters, Janine (Bill) Snyder of Safety Harbor, FL and Melissa (Nathan) Scott of Jay, FL; one sister, Linda (Jim) Irby of Pace, FL; fourteen grandchildren, Megan, Kevin, Aiden, Sunny, Scott, Kevin, Jennifer, Jasmine, Taylor, Tyler, Shauna, Keaton, Leigha and Myles; nine great grandchildren, Madelyn, Emberly, Karson, Cole, Alivia, Mary, Lakyn, Hazel and Bryson and numerous cousins, other family members and many friends.

Graveside services will be held Friday, November 6, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Ray’s Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Georgia Irene Sanders Parsons

Mrs. Georgia Irene Sanders Parsons passed at the home of her granddaughter in Madisonville, LA on Wednesday the 28th of October, 2020. She was 92 years of age. Mrs. Parsons had been residing in Madisonville for the last six months undergoing radiation treatments. Mrs. Parsons was a native of Greenville, AL but had been a long-time resident of Atmore and Uriah, AL. She was a member of the Atmore Church of Christ and was retired from Vanity Fair with many years of service.

Mrs. Parsons was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joe Everette Parsons, Jr.; parents, John T. Sanders, Sr. and Kathleen Barganier Sanders; two brothers, Joseph C. Sanders and John T. Sanders; two sisters, Annie Pearl Gentry and Sarah Nell Smith and son-in-law Joseph C. Sands.

She is survived by her two daughters, Jean Sands of Atmore, AL and Renie Jo Lassitter (Ed Hales) of Uriah, AL; one sister, Doris Duncan of Greenville, AL; five grandchildren, Jeanna Encalade of Madisonville, LA, Shelley Henderson of Alpine, CA, Lynn Venn of Cantonment, FL, Leslie Vice of Uriah, AL, and Joe Hayles of Uriah, AL; 17 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Services were held Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

William Harris

Mr. William “Billy” Harris, age 71, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020, at his home in Perdido, Alabama.

Mr. Harris was a native of Uriah, AL, former resident of Loxley, AL and had resided in Perdido, AL for the past 21 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and he loved to fish and being outdoors. He was retired from Winston Stewart Construction with 50 years of service and was a member of the Fretwell Tabernacle Holiness Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland and Gertrude Harris; one sister and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cindy Harris of Perdido, AL; four sons, Michael Harris of LaGrange, GA, Justin Harris of Perdido, AL, Scott Harris of Perdido, AL and Westley Harris of Bay Minette, AL; two daughters, Theresa Harris of LaGrange, GA and Renee May of LaGrange, GA; one brother, Eugene Harris of Robertsdale, AL; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 2, 2020, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Sis. Helen Stewart officiating.

Burial was at the White Cemetery.

Lauretta Mae Hanks

November 4, 2020

Our beloved, Christian, wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2020. Her husband, Grover (Cleve) Hanks, her children, Martin Hanks and Victoria Ashton, and all who knew her will remember her forever and cherish the memory of her loving, Christian spirit.

She enjoyed travelling, painting landscapes, and shopping for antiques. She loved her family with all her heart, and enjoyed having large family gatherings. She was a long time member of Olive Baptist Church, and is now enjoying the company of Jesus.

Mrs., Hanks is survived by her husband, Grover (Cleve) Hanks; her siblings, Richard McGougan, Jr., Rachel Strawbridge, Carolyn Taylor, and her children, Martin Hanks, and Victoria Ashton; her grandchildren, Nathaniel Ashton, and Marc Anthony, Brandon, and Daniel Hanks.

She was predeceased by her parents, Una and Richard McGougan, Sr., and four siblings, Laura Butler, Lowell McGougan, Charles McGougan, and Raleigh McGougan.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Reverend Jerry Passmore officiating.

Burial will follow in Bayview Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m. prior to services.

Jannie Holland Singleton

Jannie Holland Singleton, 84, died November 3, 2020, with her family by her side at her residence in Walnut Hill, Florida.

She was born July 7, 1936, in Christian Home to Stanley and Mae (Brown) Holland. Jannie and her husband, James T. Singleton (Pete) Sr. were married on September 2, 1956 (64 years). Jannie was employed by Escambia County School District Transportation from September 30, 1970 to August 13, 2002, a few days shy of 32 years. She was a member of the Walnut Hill Baptist Church (where she sang in the choir) and former member of the Atmore Bowling League and the Monroe Lanes. She was very loved and will be truly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Mae (Brown) Holland; three brothers, Nolan (Buck) Holland, Jerry Holland and Wayne Holland; three sisters, Ruth (Peachy) Hopkins, Doris Amerson and Judy Blackmon and a great-grandchild, Addison Yvonne.

She is survived by her husband, James T. Singleton (Pete) Sr.; one son, Theodore Singleton; three daughters, Glenda Holcomb (Frank), Barbara Dunsford Hollingsworth (Ronald) and Rebecca Blanton (Jeff); 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and sister, Betty Holland Blanton (Kenneth).

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at 11 a.m. at the Walnut Hill Baptist Cemetery with Bro. James Boyd officiating.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 5, 2020, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John McAnally, David Dunsford, Ronald Hollingsworth, Frank Holcomb, Tony Rider and James Otis Singleton.
