Charles Carnie Lambeth

Mr. Charles Carnie Lambeth, age 95, passed away Monday, May 31, 2021 at his Flomaton residence.

Mr. Lambeth was born in Cantonment, FL and had been a life-long resident of the Flomaton area.  He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy.  He worked as a Purchasing Clerk at Monsanto for a number of years, and was a member of Pleasant Home Holiness Church.  Mr. Lambeth was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Nora Lister Lambeth.

He is survived by a son, Larry (Tracy) Lambeth of Flomaton; a daughter, Brenda (Terry) Powell of Flomaton; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 4, 2021 from the chapel of Flomaton Funeral Home with Bro. Andy Boutwell officiating.  Interment will follow at Pleasant Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Flomaton Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M.

Pallbearers:  Steve Lambeth, Dale Chavers, Allen Lambeth, Dan Walton, Bobby Franklin, and Steve Turner.

Honorary Pallbearers:  Ralph Lambeth, Marty Lambeth, Tommy Simmons, and Jimmy “Hulk” Boutwell.

Sandra Matchett Haupert

May 31, 2021

Sandra Matchett Haupert, 69 of Barrineau Park, FL passed away on May 30, 2021 in Century, FL. She was born in Pensacola Florida, and resided in Barrineau Park Florida her whole life. She was a Phlebotomist at West Florida Hospital for many years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Haupert; parents, Willard “Boy” Matchett and Lucille Williams Matchett; sister-in-law, Mildred Schwartz; and aunt, Mertye Badami.

She is survived by her daughter, Lorri (Greg) Clary; grandchildren, Ashley Bonner, Jody Bonner (Haleigh Robinson), Cody (Maddie) Clary and Justin Clary; great-grandchildren, Tripp, Brantley, Taiten, Kinsleigh and Beckett; sister, Marilyn Timothy; brother, Alton (Darlene) Matchett; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Pastor Fred Stallworth officiating. Family will receive friends at 1 p.m. prior to services.

George Ross Kearney III

May 31, 2021

George Ross Kearney III, 80, of New Roads, LA and resident of Pensacola, FL since 1979, peacefully left us for heaven, surrounded by family on Thursday, May 27th after battling Alzheimer’s.

A graduate of Marion Military Institute and Louisiana State University with a BA in Political Science, where he was a Sigma Chi. He served as a Captain in the US Army and would later go on to own several businesses including, Feliciana Motor Company (St. Francisville, LA), a GM dealership (Brewton, AL) and Santa Rosa Nissan (Milton, FL), where he was a long-time supporter of youth sports. He married the love of his life in 1964, had four children, lived in 5 states and made 57 years of memories.

As a graduate of LSU he was a big Tiger football fan. He had a love of all things antique and built a vast collection of bar ware. He was a proud veteran, proud American and had a story to share every time you sat next to him. Above all else, he was a family man who loved nothing more than to be surrounded by his wife, kids and grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Margee Kearney; son, Ross Kearney IV (Katie); daughters, Peggy Tomey (Scott), Julie Donovan (Patrick); Katie Lowe (Eric); and 12 grandchildren: Patrick, Annie, Brendan, Claire, Jack, Trey, Shauna, Conner, Bella, Patrick, Chase and Elisabeth. He is also survived by sisters, Carolyn and Anne; brother, Frank.

He is preceded in death by his father, Judge G. Ross Kearney Jr. and his mother, Eileen Kearney.

Graveside service at Mt. Carmel Cemetery (St. FrancisvilIe, LA) on Saturday, June 5th, 9:00 viewing and 10:00 service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to The Alzheimer’s Association or The Wounded Warrior’s Project.

Janie Suzanne Walker

Janie Suzanne Walker, beloved and devoted wife, mother, daughter, and teacher passed away and went to her heavenly home on May 26, 2021 at the age of 47 after complications from a recent surgery.

Janie was born on March 26, 1974 in Pensacola, FL to Robert and Kathy Newbold. Janie grew up in Pensacola and attended Cordova Park Elementary, J.H. Workman Middle School, and Booker T. Washington High School. Janie and her family were active members of First Baptist Church in Pensacola where she was baptized and married and she served as a Children’s Camp Counselor and played the trumpet in the church orchestra.

Following graduation from high school in 1992 with honors, Janie attended the University of Alabama where she received a Bachelor of Music Education in 1997. While at Alabama she was a member of the Million Dollar Band, Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Quota Brass Quintet and Mu Phi Epsilon. Janie and her future husband, Chris Walker, met at Alabama and they were both members of the Million Dollar Band.

Janie started her teaching career in the fall of 1997 when she became the band director at UMS Wright Preparatory School in Mobile, AL. While living in Mobile, Janie played in the Mobile Pops Orchestra.

In the fall of 1999, Janie moved back to Pensacola and became the band director at Ransom Middle School.  During her time at Ransom, her symphonic and jazz bands received consistent superior ratings at District Music Performance Assessments, and she had 18 students selected for participation in Florida all state bands. Janie also served as guest conductor for Middle School Honor Bands in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties in Florida.  She was selected as the Ransom Middle School teacher of the year for the 2020-2021 school year.

Janie commitments were her faith in Christ, her family, and the band program at Ransom Middle School. Since 2002, Janie and her family were active members of Hillcrest Baptist Church where she played at various times in the Church’s instrumental group. Janie enjoyed spending time with her family and being mom to her son, Andrew. She enjoyed traveling with her family to Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sanibel Island in Florida and attending University of Alabama football games. She enjoyed teaching the love of music to Andrew and seeing him play trombone at Ransom and then seeing Andrew continue his music career with the Tate High School Band.

Janie had a tremendous impact on music education in Escambia County. She cared deeply for her students and wanted her students to reach their potential. She served as a mentor to other band directors in our area and she was always appreciative of the directors who guided her in her teaching career. Former students of Janie are serving in teaching positions at various middle school and high school band programs in the Florida panhandle and various former students are professional musicians.

Janie is preceded in death by her father, Robert Newbold. She is survived by her mother, Kathy Newbold of Pensacola; husband, Chris Walker of Pensacola; son, Andrew Walker of Pensacola; her brother, Robert Newbold (Amy) and their children, Jonathan and Anna of Daphne, AL; mother and father in-law, Judy and Marvin Walker of Gadsden, AL; brother in-law, Mark Walker (Julie) and their children, Matthew and Caleb of Jacksonville, AL.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 am until the Funeral Service begins at 12:00 pm Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Hillcrest Baptist Church on Nine Mile Road in Pensacola, FL with Rev. Jim Locke officiating. Burial will be held at Bayview Memorial Park in Pensacola, FL with Rev. Mark Walker officiating at the graveside.

Active Pallbearers will be Lee Rigdon, Jakob Wisdom, Tristan Workman, Robert Newbold, Andrew Walker, Matthew Walker, and Caleb Walker. Honorary Pallbearers include Jack Overman, Joe Hooten, Tim Willis, Dave Schmidt, and Janie’s co-workers at Ransom Middle School.

Finally, the family would like to thank the care provided to Janie by doctors Jarian Duke-Elmore and Jonathan Dean and the various doctors, nurses, and staff at Ascension Sacred Heart.

Belinda Christie (Perkins)

May 26, 2021

Belinda Christie (Perkins), 70, of Molino, Florida, suddenly passed on May 24, 2021. She was the first born child of 5 on September 19, 1950 to the late James R. Perkins and Maxine A. Booth.

Belinda was the first female police officer in Auburn, NH and subsequently retired after 25 years of service for the United States Post Office as a mail processing clerk. She enjoyed making quilts, walking the dogs, and especially spending time with her grandkids. As a child she traveled around the world as a military brat and her years spent as a lifeguard gave her a deeper appreciation of the water. She took the time to teach all the Nieces and Nephews how to swim – a lesson they will cherish for a lifetime. We share a poem to ease our pain:

“Look not where I was, for I am not there, My Spirit is free, I am everywhere. In the air that you breathe, In the sounds that you hear, please don’t cry for me now, my Spirit is near. I’ll watch for you from the other side, I’ll be the one running, new friends by my side. Smile at my memory, remember in your heart, this isn’t the end, it’s a brand new start.”

Belinda Christie is survived by her daughter, Karen (LeMire) Spencer and spouse Scott Spencer, her son James LeMire and spouse Rachel (Kiendle) LeMire, 5 grandchildren, her siblings, Cynthia Perkins, James Perkins and spouse Missy, preceded in death Robert Perkins, spouse Julie, Oneita Yuhasz and 8 nieces and nephews.

The family will host a private memorial celebration.

Logan Bryant Mitchell

Logan Bryant Mitchell, age 12, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021 in Flomaton, AL.

Logan was born in Mobile, AL and had been a life-long resident of Flomaton.  He was a student at Flomaton Middle School.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and Alabama football.  A member of 4-H, he participated in pig shows and chicken shows.  He had a big heart and adored his hunting dogs, Duke and Brownie. He attended Bethel Community Mennonite Church.

He was preceded in death by his Paternal grandfather, Darrell Mitchell; paternal great-grandmother, Earline Mitchell; maternal great-grandparents, Jack and Bertha Crutchfield.

He is survived by his parents, Luke and Lacinda Mitchell of Flomaton; two sisters, Lindsey Mitchell and Lainey Mitchell, both of Flomaton; maternal grandparents, Earl and Anita Bradley of Flomaton; paternal grandmother, Ruthie Mitchell of Appleton; uncle and aunt, Willie and Kelly Mitchell of Brewton; first cousins, Madison Mitchell, Ace Mitchell, Rosie Mitchell; and numerous family and friends and the 4 amigos.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. from the chapel of Flomaton Funeral Home with Pastor John Kemp and Bro. Woody Jackson officiating.  Interment will follow in Traveler’s Rest Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Flomaton Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 P.M. until 9 P.M.

Pallbearers:  Mike Agerton, Phillip Lambeth, Tuffy Boutwell, Jared Hinote, Dennis Cochran, Jr., and Steven Robinson.

Nancy Mary Mattheiss

May 25, 2021

Nancy Mary Mattheiss, resident of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the age of 79. She was born in Panama City, Florida to the Manly Dingler and Alma Ruby Lee Parrish Dingler. She and Emil Rudolph Mattheiss married on August 23, 1959. Nancy first started working as a car hop on roller skates then became the best homemaker, cosmetologist, and store clerk. She was a full of energy 5′2″ woman who always let you know when she was in the room. Nancy was a devout Christian. She loved dancing in the pouring rain. Her love for nature was incredible. Nancy’s favorite time of life was when her whole family (kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews and friends) gathered at her house for a feast. She will be missed dearly by all that knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Emil Rudolph Mattheiss; son, Darryl Allen Mattheiss; parents; brother, Donnie Richard Dingler; and sister, Melinda Dingler.

Nancy is survived by her children, Anthony Emil (Tamala) Mattheiss, Delores Carolyn (Sam) Wood and Melinda Kay Valencia; grandchildren, Caleb, Dustin, Brandi (Derek), Jacob (Madison), Ashley (Matthew), Jenni, Randy (Kayley), Crystal (Oliver), Devan (Amber) and Michael (Megan); great grandchildren, Kyle, Katelyn, Kaylee, Austin, Aliyah, Mikenna, Baylen, Brooklyn, Paxton, Tyler, Taylor, Presley, Colby, Bruce, Robert, Aurora, Taylor and Sophia; great grandchild, Elizabeth; sisters, Shirley, Carol and Dewanna; and brother, Jerry.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 3PM, Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.

Reception will follow services at Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Gene Douglas

May 24, 2021

On Saturday May 22, 2021 our loving husband, father, brother, and Pawpaw, Gene Douglas, went home to be with our Lord and Savior. Gene was born on July 31, 1940 in Pensacola Florida to the late Earl and Amanda Douglas. Gene served our country in the United States Army from 1964-1966, in which time he proudly served in the Vietnam War. Gene went on to retire from International Pape after 21 years. He continued to work for several years, and especially enjoyed his time as “the produce man” at Grocery Advantage in Cantonment.

Gene enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, camping, fishing, and simply just getting in the car and going!

Gene was proceeded in death by his parents, his brothers Earl Jr., Johnny, and Buddy. He is survived by his wife Ellen, whom he loved dearly, they were married for 53 years. He is also survived by his children Ronnie Douglas (Teri), Jason Douglas (Tammy), Mike Douglas (Lorrie), Geno Douglas, and Cyndi Orrill. His grandchildren Taylor Pody (Ben), Cortney Douglas, Maddy Douglas, Jackson Douglas, Josh Douglas. His brother Carl Douglas, sisters Florence Guthrey, Dale Foshee, Elaine Kleinschmidt, Glenda Thompson, and Joyce Melvin, as well as a host of relatives and friends who loved him very much. Funeral Services will be held at Faith Chapel North. Visitation will be Wednesday May 26 from 6-8. Services will be Thursday May 27 at 2:00. Pastor Keith Mott will be officiating.

Pallbearers will be Sam Daniel, Jerry Daniel, Johnny Daniel, Jackson Douglas, and Josh Douglas.

Steven Anthony Dennis

May 24, 2021

Steven Anthony Dennis, 61 went to be with his Heavenly Father, May 21,2021 at his home in Cantonment, FL. Born in Pensacola, FL, he was the cherished son of Marjorie F. Mathews, loyal Brother to Ellen Dennis Griffin (Jim) and Stephanie Dennis Pitts. He was the loving husband of Jamie Dennis, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage. He was the proud father of Kristine Moore (Brian) and Kelly Dennis. But perhaps his favorite title he carried was being a Grandpa (aka Baba) to Landon Gene and Lawson Anthony Moore. His favorite place to be was at the beach. He enjoyed fishing, watching sunsets at Fort Pickens, camping and most of all spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his Girls and Grandsons. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews that credit him for many wonderful childhood memories, Michael Griffith (Wynde), Terry Ollervides Jr, Ben Griffith (Kim), Jamie Fielding (Danny), Sarah Jack (Dave), Ryan Ballard, Tina Ballard and Amy Ballard. His fun and loving spirit will remain deep within our hearts as we continue his legacy. Special thank you to Dr. Nicholas Drake and his oncology staff, Fresenius Kidney Center (Nine Mile) and Covenant Hospice for all of their care and compassion.

Funeral services will be held at 3PM, Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Minister Ken Tackett officiating.

Burial will follow in Roberts Cemetery.

Joyce Harrison Mayo

Joyce Harrison Mayo, born April 27, 1948 in Jackson County, Florida passed away on May 21, 2021 in Pensacola, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Mayo; maternal grandparents, William Gordon “Jake” Powell and Fannie Irene Grice Powell; paternal grandparents, James Allen Harrison and Lucy Ann Evans Harrison; parents, Odis Harrison and Bronnie Powell Harrison.

Joyce is survived by daughter, Marti C. Tabora of Pensacola, Florida; sons, Rickey T. (Rebecca) Mayo of Texas and Rodney D. (Bobbie) Mayo of Alabama; one grandson, Jake Harrison Brown of Pensacola; three granddaughters, Whitney (Jamie) Ripper and Marley Rae Mayo both of Texas, and Cassie Rae Mayo of Ohio; two great grandsons, Cameron Harrison Brown and Jameson Howard Ripper; one great granddaughter, Emery Lou Mayo; brother, who was so special to her, Robert (Donna) Horton of Washington Co., Florida; and sisters-in-law, Polly, Macklyn and Linda.

A special thank you to Dr. Hilliary White and Nadia who took such good care of Joyce. Joyce always said that Dr. White listened to her, understood her, and always made her feel better and Nadia who was always so caring and sweet. Also, D.J. with Covenant Hospice who was so kind to help Joyce to understand her medications and what they were for.

Graveside services will be held at noon on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Dixonville Community Cemetery, 9851 Travis Road, Brewton, AL 36426.
