Rebecca Higdon

Rebecca Higdon, age 72, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021 in Pensacola, FL. She was born in Jay, FL; but has resided most of her life in Flomaton, AL. She was a faithful member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.

Mrs. Higdon enjoyed going to church, singing and going to the mountains. She loved her family dearly and always valued the time she spent with them, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Effie) Little of Jay, FL.

Mrs. Higdon is survived by her loving husband of forty-seven and a half years, Kenny Higdon, of Flomaton, AL; two sons, Kenny Higdon Jr; of Flomaton, AL; Cleve (Beverly) Johnson of Spring Hill, TN; one daughter, Marilyn (Chuck) Day of Flomaton, AL; two grandsons, Isaiah (Stevie) Day, of Flomaton, AL; Joshua (Autumn) Day, of Flomaton, AL; six granddaughters, Jamie (Parker) Bell, of Flomaton, AL; Shelby Sasser, of Andalusia, AL; Kayla Higdon (Josh), of Evergreen, AL; Brandy Higdon, of Jay, FL; Kaylyn (Cody) Martin, of Springhill, TN; Lauren Johnson, of Springhill, TN; fourteen great-grandchildren, one sister, JoAnn (Johnny) Johnson, of Columbia, TN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Bro. Chuck Day and Bro. Isaiah Day officiating.

Burial will follow at Little Escambia Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 30, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC.

Pallbearers will be Parker Bell, Bailey Martin, Shannon Martin, Joshua Day, Dale Chavers, Daniel Higdon, Jacob Higdon, and Adam Martin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Lambeth.

Nancy Hargrave

August 31, 2021

Nancy Hargrave passed away on August 28, 2021 at the age of 69. She was born in Gurdon, AR to Warren and Arline Bones. She graduated from Gurdon High School and Ouachita Baptist University. Nancy married Bobby Hargrave in 1973. She lived in many places as a Navy wife – ranging from Maine to the Philippines. While in Hawaii, they had two sons, Paul and Mark Hargrave. After a career in the Navy, Bobby and Nancy returned to Cantonment, FL where they made their home.

She was a member of Olive Baptist Church. Her faith in the Lord made her resilient. She loved cooking, sewing, going to Pilates and watching SEC football. She loved listening to music, playing piano, and collecting dolls and bears. But most of all, Nancy loved the people around her.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life at a memorial service at Faith Chapel North in Cantonment, FL, Thursday, September 2, at 1pm. Burial services will be held at a later date (TBD) in Gurdon, Arkansas.

Judith Vickery Branum

August 30, 2021

Judith Vickery Branum went to her eternal home on August 29, 2021. Her family and countless friends already miss her but take comfort that she is healed and whole.

Judy was born on September 13, 1945, in New Castle, Indiana. She moved to her long-time home of Atmore as a child, and other than her college days spent at her beloved Auburn University, she has resided there since with her high school sweetheart, Billy Wayne, who she married in 1968, and their daughter, Bonnie.

Judy’s calling was education, and she devoted her life to teaching students at Escambia Academy, Flomaton High School, Escambia County High School, and T.R. Miller High School. Over the years, her family has heard students say she touched their lives, but her life was also touched by each and every one of her students. She planned her lessons meticulously and took great delight in teaching, pushing, and encouraging her students. Perhaps her most important role, however, was becoming a YaYa to her dear granddaughter, Olivia, and she brought to that role the utmost of enthusiasm and love.

She loved her church home, First Baptist Church of Atmore, where, for years, she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and children’s church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie Farrar “Red” Vickery and Bonnie Kirkpatrick Vickery; and her sister, Becky Shivers.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Wayne; her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Nic Minopoli; her granddaughter, Olivia Minopoli; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Penny and Galen Walker and Peggy and John James; a special cousin, John Arthur Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews she loved as her own.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 3:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, Alabama.

For safety purposes, the family asks that you wear a mask and socially distance.

The family intends to have a celebration of life service when safe.

Betty Lou (Dunn) Gregg

August 30, 2021

Betty Lou (Dunn) Gregg, age 71, passed away on August 25, 2021 in Atmore, AL. She was born on June 15, 1950 in McCullough, AL to the late Odis C. and Ruby E. “Liz” Tolin Dunn. Betty loved gardening, rescuing stray cats, shopping, fine dining, cooking and was an avid Auburn Fan.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Maurice Gregg; her father, Odis C. Dunn; her mother, Ruby E. “Liz” Dunn Davis Boone; her step-father, Hilton P. Davis and her brother, Roy Wayne Dunn.

Betty had special love for her feline companion, Aubie; her special friend, James Michael Coker and her lifelong friend, Alan Etheridge.

She is survived by her siblings, Evelyn Joan (Bruce) Lang of Brandon, MS, Linda Joyce Morgan of Hilham, TN, Thomas Henry (Donna) Davis of Mineola, AL, Autrey Edward Davis of Davisville, FL, Lois Jean (George) Mahony of Atmore, AL, Peggy Sue Dunn of Atmore, AL, Billy Ray (Ruthie) Dunn of Atmore, AL, David Glenn Dunn of Atmore, AL along with numerous nieces and nephews she loved dearly.

A private family viewing will be held at a later date. The family asked that facial mask be worn due to the current healthcare crisis.

An Inurnment will follow in Newport, TN at a later date.

Mary R. Smith, 74 of Atmore, AL passed away August 27, 2021 in Atmore. She was born in East Brewton, AL. on October 17, 1946 to the late Rufus and Mary Inez Weaver O’Farrell. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was a beautician most of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lou Jean Petty.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Alvin Lamar “Pete” Smith of Atmore, AL and a daughter, Marcy (Nathan) Riley of Atmore, AL; three step-children, David (Kathy) Smith of Atmore, AL, Heith (Kimber) Smith of Atmore, AL, Eugenia (Ray) Boutwell of Flomaton, AL and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 2:30 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Mike Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Christopher Powell, Kevin Peacock, Bradden Riley, Heith Smith, Nathan Riley and Roger Smith.

Joshua Shane Clark

August 30, 2021

Joshua Shane Clark, age 47, a native of Atmore, AL and former resident of Pensacola, FL who later resided in Theodore, AL passed away on August 24, 2021 in Theodore. He was born on April 23, 1974 in Pensacola, FL. He served in The United States Marine Corps.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Oliver B. Edgar and his grandparents, Harold and Janice Clark.

He is survived by his father, Harold Joseph Clark of Mobile, AL; his mother and step-father, Brenda Edgar (Wayne) Pruitt of Atmore, AL; his son, Jagger Clark of Pensacola, FL; his brother, Kent (Faren) Brown of Viola, DE; his sister, Lindsey (Eric) Parnell of Saraland, AL; his nieces, Eleena, Brinkley and Abby along with his nephews, Rylind, Avery and Brant.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 12 Noon at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, AL with Rev. Steve Walley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Betty F. Amerson Brown

Betty F. Amerson Brown, age 85, of Cantonment, FL passed away on August 29, 2021 in Atmore, AL. She was born on January 10, 1936 in Bratt, FL to the late Horace Edison and Fannie Annette Wiggins Amerson. Betty was of the Baptist Faith.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Brown; her step-son, Roland Brown, her brothers, Elyan Amerson and Jimmy Amerson.

She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Hall of Atmore, AL; her son, Randy (Pat) Hall of Salt Lake, UT; her step-sons, Russell (Karla) Brown of Cantonment, FL, Randy Brown of Atmore, AL and Rodney (Faye) Brown of McDavid, FL; her brother, Curtis (Betty) Amerson of Enon, FL; her sister, Ann Amerson Weemes of Atmore, AL; nine grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Christian Home Cemetery with Rev. Ken Johnson and Bro. Ricky Tedder officiating. Interment will follow at Christian Home Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Jerry Halfacre

August 27, 2021

Jerry Halfacre, age 66, of Cantonment, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 22,2021.

Jerry was loved by many and never met a stranger.

Jerry loved his 3 children and adored his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by so many. He was the best DAD, Grandpa, G-Paw and GP to all of us. DAD was our best friend and our rock.

Jerry is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Doris Halfacre, his mom and dad Ernie and Louise Halfacre, and his brothers Bobby and John Halfacre. He is survived by his three kids, Amanda (Correy) Pritchett, Baranda (Chance) Hawthorne, and Jerry (Amber) Halfacre. His Grandsons Tyler Knowles, Austin (Jess) Halfacre, Levi Kirkpatrick, Keaton Halfacre, and Cooper Halfacre. One granddaughter Harper Halfacre and a great grandson Ira Halfacre. His beloved brother Raymond Halfacre and sisters Teeny Hanners and Cindy Halfacre. Pall Bearers: Tyler Knowles, Austin Halfacre, Keaton Halfacre, Levi Kirkpatrick, Cooper Halfacre, Correy Pritchett, Ryan Spikes, Bo Brown.

A visitation for Jerry will be held Monday, August 30, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Highland Baptist Church, 6240 County Highway 95a, Molino, FL 32577. A Funeral service will occur Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Highland Baptist Church. A procession to Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.

Jamey Jess Kahalley

August 27, 2021

Jamey Jess Kahalley passed away on August 25, 2025 at the age of 62.

He preceded in death by his father Eugene Kahalley and his sister Brenda Kahalley. Jamey is survived by his mother Patricia (Morgan) Powell, his brother David Mears, his wife Brenda (Baker) Kahalley, son Sean Kahalley and Rachel Kahalley and daughter Jamie Lea Jester and Stephen Jester. His grandsons were his greatest joy, Ryan Kahalley, Nicholas Kahalley, Gavin Jester, Brandon Jester and Wyatt Jester.

Jamey was active in his children’s sports with coaching at Don Sutton Ball Park for many years at all levels. He coached football when they played for the Cantonment Cowboys and Ensley Chiefs. After retiring from coaching you could find him umpiring games all around the county. He supported Tate Wrestling with his son and Northview Girls Softball and Volleyball with his daughter.

Jamey was a lifelong resident of Molino Florida, graduating from Tate High School Class of 1976. He worked a variety of jobs before he found his calling in law enforcement. He began his career with Milton Police Department for two years and moved to Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office in 1999. Sgt. Jamey Kahalley was known for this years as a FTO and his commitment to helping junior officers become deputies. He took great pride in this work and was committed to the citizens of Santa Rosa County. He received multiple Citations of Merit and Deputy of the Quarter in 2014 and 2016. He received the Life Saving Award in May 2007. Jamey retired in 2019 he was a trustee for the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and embraced the country life with big toys and grand plans.

Visitation and a celebration of life will be held Tuesday, August 31 from 5-7 p.m. at Faith Chapel North.

Deborah Carolyn Jackson

August 27, 2021

Mrs. Deborah Carolyn Jackson age 57, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in Atmore, AL. She was a lifelong resident of Atmore, AL. and a member of the United Methodist Church of Atmore. She worked with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians for several years.

Mrs. Jackson loved her kids and grandchildren. She was an avid Alabama Football Fan. She loved to travel with her husband, but enjoyed going to the casinos with her mom. She would do anything for her kids and her mother. She was raised up by a wonderful man that she considered to be dad, Runt Bryant. Along the road, she met Ronnie, the love of her life and that was the best thing that had ever happened, she loved him dearly.

She is preceded in death by her father, Eubie W. Davis and one brother, Joey Davis.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Olivia Bryant (Runt) of Atmore, AL; her loving husband of twenty plus years, Ronnie Ray Jackson of Atmore, AL; two sons, Randon Watson (Sarah) of McDavid, FL; William Cook, of Walnut Hill, FL; one step- son, Scott Jackson (Tammy) of Wetumpka, AL: two daughters, Sharley Cook (Trent) of Atmore, AL; Nioma Till (Shawn) of Excel, AL; twelve grandchildren, Raycer Waston, Landon Watson, William Watson, Crimson Cook, Arabella Cook, Elianna Cook, Koby Styron, Braxton Styron, Brantlee Till, Gabe Till, Haylee Jackson, Dalton Jackson, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday August 30, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC. with Rev. Ray Ward officiating.

Burial will follow at Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 29, 2021 from 6 PM until 8:00 PM at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC.
