Norman Bernard Bankston

Norman Bernard Bankston, 50, of Jay, Florida, passed away Saturday September 4, 2021. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on November 11, 1970. He was raised in Hammond, Louisiana, and moved to Cantonment, Florida, in 2000.

Norman married his “Sunshine” Jackie Morris on April 21, 2001. God blessed them with twins, his Princess, Madeline Mae Estelle Bankston and his Rompy Doo, Norman “Kinion” Bankston. They were his pride and joy. They moved to Jay, Florida, in 2005. Norman was a butcher by trade.

Norman was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Norman and Grace Larkin, and his paternal grandparents, Phillip and Lola Bankston.

Norman is survived by his wife and children; mother, Diane(Jimmy) Sanders; father, Gary(Roxanna) Bankston; brothers: Brad(Megan) Bankston, Jason(Brianna) Bankston, and James Michael(Courtney) Sanders; mother in law, Linda Morris; sister in law, Mendy(John) Schrader. Uncle Cootie is survived by five nieces and four nephews. Norman also leaves behind, his shadow, Chip the Wonder Dog.

He loved to hunt, fish, spend time with his family, and gossip with his buddies.

Brother Patrick Salter will perform his Home Going Service at Pine Level Baptist Church in Jay, Florida, Friday September 10, 2021, at 2 p.m. The visitation for friends will be from 1-2 p.m. Burial in church cemetery will immediately follow the service.

Douglas Ryland

Douglas Ryland, 77 of Davisville, FL. passed away September 5, 2021 in Davisville. He was born on December 14, 1943 to the late Edward and Minnie Jackson Ryland. He served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife of 57 years Beverly Godwin Ryland; granddaughter Anni Jordan; son in law Joe Murray; siblings Mary Lee Ryland Brooks, J.E. Ryland and Bobby Joe Ryland.

He is survived by his children Regina Murray of Parker, CO; Vicki (Tony) Jordan of Pace, FL; Pamela (Wendell) Nelson of Addison, TX; one sister Jeanette Brown of Molino, FL; five grandchildren Megan (Connor), Rachel, Emili, Ana, and Joey.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 10 AM at Godwin Cemetery in Bratt, FL. Interment will follow in Godwin Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Ramond Kimmons, Wendell Nelson, Mike Geneux, Roger Brown, Tanner Roberson and Ricky Brooks. Honorary pallbearer will be Warren Roberson.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 9 AM until 9:30 AM at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Christian Tyler Roye

Christian Tyler Roye, age 22, died August 27th in Biloxi, MS from a lifelong seizure disorder. It was his Big Grandmas’s birthday. His life had barely begun. He was the smartest man I’ve ever met. He could’ve ruled the world. He just wanted to be in it.

Born in Brewton Alabama, he attended TR Miller through 6th grade, he played football for Brewton starting at the age of five, and spoke of that time of his life with great happiness. He attended Gulf Breeze after that, and refused to play for their team, saying he would never be disloyal to Brewton…he never played football again. He graduated from Watford City High in North Dakota, where he still holds several weightlifting records, as well as the record for Standing Long Jump.

Trained as an X-Ray Tech for the oilfield, he loved the gym and bodybuilding was his passion. He loved to fish, watch Alabama football, and dominated League of Legends as a Diamond Ranked player. He was awaiting shoulder-graft surgery to get back to the field

He was preceded in death by his Big Grandma Laura Calhoun Hawthorne, Jay, FL, and his Nana and Pawpaw Jim and Lillian Roye, Flomaton , AL.

He left behind his parents, Mike Roye of Killdeer, ND and Sally Rowell of Biloxi, MS, and his Big Brother, Mikey Roye and Sister-in-Law Kielah LaFountaine, and two nieces, Royalty and Lillian Roye of Killdeer, ND. Grandparents Susan and Leon Cominsky of Baker, FL and Melvin Rowell of Jacksonville, FL. Aunts and Uncles, Kristi Rowell Macks and JR Macks, Jay, FL, Mathew Hanks, Flomaton, AL, Adam and Heather Rowell of Jacksonville, FL, Chris and Robin Wiggins, Jacksonville, FL, Jason and Doty Roye, Pensacola, FL, Brian and Lisa Roye, Mobile, AL, Chris and Kim Roye, Freeport, FL and Danielle and Tim Strickland, Foley, AL. And many cousins.

Memorial services were held at Jay Funeral Chapel, Jay, FL on Friday, September 3, 2021.

Martha Davis Massey

Martha Davis Massey, 94, went peacefully to be with the Lord September 4, 2021. Martha is preceded in death by her husband Paul H Massey, her mother Annie Davis, her father Wiley F. Davis, 5 brothers, 4 sisters, and granddaughter Lora Lynn Chastang. Martha is survived by her daughter Paula Ann Austin, her granddaughter Leslie Austin, and her great-granddaughters Brittany Chastang, Alonna Perry and Finley Chance. They will all surely miss their mother and “Mamaw”. She was the hub of her family, enjoyed cooking big meals and was loved by all. She will surely be missed.

Martha was a retail manager for 25 years in Pensacola, Florida. She was Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star in Vidalia, Georgia. She attended Plainview Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Joyful Seniors, Benevolent Committee and volunteered at Vacation Bible School.

The Funeral Service will take place at 10am on Monday, September 13th at Fort Barrancas National Cemetery with Rev. Bill Flannigan officiating. A procession will leave Faith Chapel Funeral Home North at 9AM.

In Lieu of sending flowers, Martha would prefer your kind contributions be made in her honor to the Outreach and Benevolent committees at Plainview Baptist Church.

Ronald Louis Wedgeworth

Mr. Ronald “Ronny” Louis Wedgeworth, age 66, passed away, on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in Atmore, AL. He had resided most of his life in Flomaton, AL. He was co-owner of Wedgeworth Roofing Company. He was a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church.

Mr. Wedgeworth, enjoyed playing golf, woodworking with his grandsons. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in sports, and eating a “Good steak at the Gather”.

Mr. Wedgeworth is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Louis (Codie) Wedegworth, of Flomaton, AL; his loving wife of forty-three years, Katherine Wedgeworth of Flomaton, AL; two daughters, Rachael (Tommy) Knowles, of Flomaton, AL; Memory (Shane) Rollin, of Flomaton, AL; one brother, Mike (Nancy) Wedgeworth, of Flomaton, AL; one sister, Brenda (Jeff) Spann, of Flomaton, AL; four grandchildren, Anna Knowles, Lori Knowles, Will Rollin, Colton Rollin, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Rev. Jonathan Hill officiating.

Burial will follow at Little Escambia Cemetery.

Kimberly Anne Brewton

Kimberly Anne Brewton, 52, of Cantonment, Florida passed away on September 2, 2021, while surrounded by her family. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio to her parents, David Clarke and Linda Howard Jasinski, and she moved to Cantonment in 1986.

Kim is survived by a son, Anthony Brewton (Michaeline); daughter, Amber McGlothren; brother, Christopher Clarke (Latisha); sister, Tracy Garrett (Lynn); stepbrother, Gregory Jasinski (Shanna); father, David Clarke (Sandra); mother, Linda Jasinski; three grandchildren, Matthew, Levi and Riley; niece, Brittany; three nephews, Jacob, Wyatt and Dylan; along with several aunts, uncles, and friends.

As a graduate of Euclid High, Kim was employed by Cox Cable for 18 yrs. More recently at Liberty Church North Campus in the nursery. She was also a Mary Kay representative. As a young woman Kim loved to fish and listen to Prince. She loved her church family. Kim was a kind and caring soul willing to help others, unselfishly, at any time. Kim was loved by many and will be missed dearly by all.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 22, 2021, at Liberty Church North Campus, 9420 Music Lane. Pensacola, Florida, at 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Liberty Church. North Campus. Covid protocols will be observed.

Melba Ernestine “Jackie” Brown

Melba Ernestine “Jackie” Brown, age 94, passed away on August 31, 2021 in Century, FL.

She was born on May 22, 1927 in Bratt, FL to the late Ernest and Katie Davis Hall.

She was a longtime member of Atmore First Assembly of God Church where she helped organize a senior group called “Celebrate”.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hubert Lewis Brown; her grandson, Carey Brown and her siblings, Martez Rutherford, Julia Johnson, Betty Wells and Jerry
Hall.

She is survived by her sons, Michael (Donna) Brown of Grand Island, FL and Joey (Jamie) Brown of Spanish Fort, AL; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Bratt-Godwin Cemetery in Bratt, FL with Bro. Don Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Bratt- Godwin Cemetery.

Joseph D. Burdeshaw, Sr.

Joseph D. Burdeshaw, Sr. resident of Cantonment, FL passed away on September 4, 2021 at the age of 85. He was born on Dec. 26, 1935 to the late George Grady Burdeshaw and Martha Wilson Burdeshaw.

Joseph served his county in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion, Pensacola, FL.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, George Burdeshaw and J. C. Burdeshaw.

Joseph is survived by his sons, Joseph (Cindy) Burdeshaw, Sr. and John (Eloda) Burdeshaw; daughters, Malinda (Dale) Gatzke and Trish Burdeshaw; four grandchildren, Kristina, Melissa, Tiana, and Kyle; seven great grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Bruce) Wood; and brothers, Milton (Alice) and Charles (Margaret) .

Graveside services will be held at 2PM on Sept. 13, 2021 at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, FL.

Randy Darrell Holt

Mr. Randy Darrell Holt, age 69, passed away September 2, 2021.

Mr. Holt was born in Brewton on November 14, 1951, and had been a life-long resident of Flomaton. He was baptized at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pensacola, was a 1971 graduate of Flomaton High School and was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard in 1977. Randy owned and operated Randy Holt Construction Co. for thirty-seven years, winning two Outstanding Home Awards in the Northwest Florida Home Builders Association’s Parade of Homes. After his homebuilding career he established Lower Alabama Claims Service which has been in business for the past twenty-four years. His greatest joys in life were spending time with his family, bass fishing and Alabama football. He has always been known for his witty personality, positive outlook on life and sense of humor.

Mr. Holt was preceded in death by his father, Donnie Holt.

He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Marilyn Bell Holt; daughters, Rachael (Kevin) Fillmore of Barnett Crossroads, AL, Melissa (Steve) Willard of Mobile, AL; two grandchildren, Weston Fillmore, and Raeleigh Fillmore; mother, Betty Holt; and brothers, Danny (Judie) Holt, Larry (Donna) Holt; sister, Rhonda Holt, all of Pensacola, FL; and other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 6, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. from the chapel of Flomaton Funeral Home with Kevin Fillmore officiating. Interment will follow in Hollywood cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Flomaton Funeral Home on September 6, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. until service time at 3:00 P.M.

Pallbearers are Steve Willard, Gerald Cofield, Randy Roberson, Earl Garrett, Donald Godwin, and Steve Flowers.

John Robert Lee

Mr. John Robert Lee, age 61, passed away, on Saturday, August 14, 2021 in Pensacola, FL. after a brief illness.

Mr. Lee has resided most of his life in Century, FL. He was an electrician for years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his dog Maggie. He was an avid hard worker. He enjoyed spending time with his friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilford (Bessie) Lee, one daughter, Kathryn “Katie” Suzanne Lee, one sister, Janet Shultz.

Mr. Lee is survived by his brother-in-law, Todd Shultz, of Brewton, AL; Cousins, Steve (Angie) Turner, of Century, FL; four grandchildren, Isabelle Barber, Jasmine Barber, Michaela Barber, Daylon Brown, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Graveside services will be held Monday, September 6, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Byrneville Cemetery with Rev. Michael Johnson officiating.
