Herbert Larry Cash

January 18, 2022

Herbert Larry Cash
November 16, 1943 – January 7, 2022

Bprn on November 16, 1943, at home in Luverne, AL, Herbert Larry Cash was the seventh of General Hubert Cash and Eeler Mae (Bowen)’s ten children.

Larry learned the value of hard work at an early age where he grew up in the country tending to and picking cotton, chopping firewood, gardening and canning vegetables. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and playing football and baseball. After high school graduation, he worked at HB&G while he attended Troy State University. Larry played baseball for Troy and graduated in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as an Army Sergeant who received six medals during his service.

Following his military career, Larry was a supervisor at Monsanto before moving on to the Pensacola Police Department as a Detective and later as a Sergeant during his 14-year tenure.

Taking a chance on a dream, Larry left the police department and became his own boss. After honing his craft for a lifetime, he became the self-proclaimed “best car salesman” in Pensacola. Some unfortunate circumstances ended this career so he went on to be a private investigator for 30+ years. He described his work as fulfilling and enjoyed what he did. More importantly were the relationships he built. Larry never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to help someone. He was thankful for the many great, lifelong, dependable friends he gained along the way. In his free time, Larry enjoyed fishing, playing ball, working on cars, and watching football (Roll Tide!).

He remembered time spent with his family most fondly, and he cherished his “job” of being a dad and grandfather. Surrounded by family, Larry passed peacefully on January 7, 2022. Our Dad will be missed for his jovial, fun-loving, carefree personality; his jokes, wisecracks, wisdom (Dad-isms); his sometimes unsolicited opinions and advice; and his big heart.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents Eeler Bowen and General Cash and siblings: Freeman “Pee Wee” Cash, Marion “Red” Cash, Raymond “Nello” Cash, Victoria Cash, and Birdie Ann Cash Burkett. He is survived by his sons Jeffrey Cash of Pensacola, FL, and Patrick (Amy) Cash of Milton, FL; his four grandchildren: Cooper and Conner Cash of Bay Minette, AL, and Carter and Macey Cash of Milton, FL. He is also survived by two sisters Betty Bennett of Pensacola, FL, and Margaret Cash of Navarre, FL, and two brothers Marshall Cash (Martha) of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Floyd Cash (Michelle) of Orlando, FL, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and longtime friend, Dominga Chandler of Milton, FL.

We will celebrate Larry’s life with a visitation on Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 4:30-7:00 PM at Eastern Gate Memorial. The funeral service will be on January 21, 2022 at 9:00 AM at Eastern Gate Memorial with a processional to Barrancas National Cemetery where he will receive full military honors. (Pallbearers: Jeffrey Cash, Patrick Cash, Cooper Cash, Conner Cash, Joe Cash, and Paul Pilone)

In lieu of flowers, Larry would prefer you spend your hard-earned money enjoying Popeye’s chicken, a gallon of ice cream, and/or a Starbuck’s caramel macchiato (one of his new favorites) with a friend…then following-up with a scratch off ticket!
