Two Injured In Molino Intersection Two Car Wreck

Two people were injured in a two vehicle crash at a Molino intersection Saturday night.
The passenger cars collided at the intersection of Highway 29 and Highway 97 shortly before 6 p.m. Two people were transported to the hospital by Escambia County EMS with injuries that were not considered life threatening.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. The Molino Station of Escambia Fire Rescue and Escambia County EMS responded.

Deadline Is Tuesday For Discount On Real Estate, Tangible Property Taxes

A 4% discount on payment of real estate and tangible personal property taxes ends Tuesday, November 30, according to Escambia County Tax Collector Scott Lunsford.
To receive the 4% discount, payments must be:
- mailed with a November postmark;
- left by midnight, November 30, in a 24-hour drop box available at all locations; or
- made online by midnight, November 30, at EscambiaTaxCollector.com.
Taxpayers are encouraged to visit our virtual office at EscambiaTaxCollector.com to pay online 24 hours a day. Online services allow customers to pay their taxes, search records, print receipts, renew vehicle and vessel registrations and many other services. There is no additional fee to pay current taxes by eCheck. Customers who decide to visit tax collector offices can drop off their payment in the drive thru or in a dropbox.

Local Cheerleaders March In Disney Thanksgiving Parade

Six North Escambia area cheerleaders marched in the UCA All American Parade this Thanksgiving at Disney World in Orlando.
Participants were Northview High School junior varsity cheerleaders Kaitlin Lloyd and Lacey Sapp (pictured first below), Ernest Ward Middle School 8th grade cheerleaders Mary Oliver and Sophia Adkins (pictured second below), and Jay cheerleaders Lily Land and Chloeigh Pierce (pictured third below).
They were part of “Team Minnie” (pictured bottom).

Here Are The Slow Down Spots For This Week Due To Road Construction

Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties this week as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.
Escambia County
- U.S. 98 Pensacola Bay Bridge Replacement – Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures and lane shifts on the Pensacola Bay Bridge Monday, Nov. 29 through Saturday, Dec. 4 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Crews will be using lanes on the current bridge as a platform to pour concrete decks for the westbound (Gulf Breeze to Pensacola) structure.
- North Ninth Avenue (State Road (S.R.) 289) Carpenters Creek Bridge Replacement- All travel lanes are temporarily shifted to the northbound side of the bridge as crews replace the southbound portion of the structure. Additionally, drivers may encounter intermittent temporary lane closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29 through Friday, Dec. 3 as crews mobilize materials and equipment.
- West Cervantes Street (U.S. 90) Pedestrian Safety Improvement – Drivers will encounter lane closures between the following locations as crews perform median improvements and install poles for pedestrian traffic signals.
- A and N Streets (inside lane closures).
- R Streets (intermittent outside lane closures).
- Nine Mile Road (U.S. 90) Widening from Beulah Road to Pine Forest Road (S.R. 297) – Drivers will encounter temporary intermittent traffic shifts and alternating lane closures to allow crews to place the final thermoplastic striping. Access to all businesses will be maintained, flagmen and signage will be in place to direct traffic.
- U.S. 29 Widening from Interstate 10 (I-10) to Nine Mile Road (U.S. 90) –Drivers can expect the following construction related traffic impacts the week of Monday, Nov. 29.
- · Nighttime intermittent lane closures and shifts, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., on U.S. 29, between I-10 and Nine and Half Mile Road, and on Nine Mile Road at the U.S. 29 interchange.
- · The U.S. 29 southbound on-ramp and U.S. 29 northbound off-ramp at the Nine Mile Road interchange may be reduced to a single lane during the nighttime hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Signage will be in place and traffic flaggers will be on-site to direct motorists.
- Sorrento Road (S.R. 292) Intersection Improvements at Innerarity Point (County Road 292A) – Motorists can expect intermittent daytime lane closures as crews place a watermain.
- Creighton Road (S.R. 742) Utility Operations at Keating Road- Traffic will be restricted from 8 a.m.to 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29 as utility crews perform operations.
- S.R. 173 (Blue Angel Parkway) Turn Lane Construction at Preserve at Perdido and Tractor Supply- There will be southbound intermittent lane restrictions from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30 through Friday, Dec. 3.
- Davis Highway (S.R. 291) Routine Maintenance just north of Langley Avenue- The northbound right lane will be closed from 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2 to 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3 as crews make roadway repairs.
Santa Rosa County
- Pensacola Bay Bridge (U.S. 98) Replacement – Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures and lane shifts on the Pensacola Bay Bridge Monday, Nov. 29 through Saturday, Dec. 4 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Crews will be using lanes on the current bridge as a platform to pour concrete decks for the westbound (Gulf Breeze to Pensacola) structure.
- I-10 Resurfacing East of S.R. 281 (Avalon Boulevard) to East of S.R. 87 – Motorists can expect intermittent lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29 through Thursday, Dec. 2 as crews perform construction activities.
- U.S. 98 Widening from Bayshore Road to Portside Drive – Major roadway construction activities are currently underway. Improvements on the 4.25-mile section include widening the roadway from four to a six-lanes with a raised median; safety and drainage upgrades; resurfacing State Road 281 (Avalon Boulevard) from U.S. 98 to Garcon Point Bridge; extending the existing shared-use path on the south side of U.S. 98 from Gondolier Boulevard; and new signage and pavement markings.
- S.R. 89 (Dogwood Drive) Turn Lane Construction in Milton- There will be intermittent lane restrictions from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Tuesday, Nov. 30 to Thursday, Dec. 2.
All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Emergency Rental Assistance Program Still Available For Escambia County Residents

Escambia County residents struggling to pay rent and utilities due to COVID-19 can still apply for help from the Escambia County Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP).
The application portal is now open and available clicking or tapping here. Call (850) 403-6044 to make an appointment for in-person assistance, or see a list of libraries below.
Emergency rental assistance may be provided to eligible low-income Escambia County residents and families who:
- Have been financially impacted by COVID-19;
- Have total household income at or below 80% Area Median Income;
- Are at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability; and
- Have not received any other rental assistance for the requested months
Both the renter and the landlord must submit an application through the portal. Reimbursement will be paid directly to the landlord or utility provider. View eligibility requirements and see if you qualify here.
The program can cover up to 12 months of overdue or late rent and utility bills for households in Escambia County. Additional details for rental assistance for landlords and renters can be found at MyEscambia.com/erap.
Escambia County has received the following allocations:
- $9,611,771 from the Consolidated Appropriations Act
- $7,605,344 from the American Rescue Plan

Three Injured When SUV Sideswipes FedEx Truck, Overturns And Hits A Tree

Three people in a SUV were seriously injured on I-10 Friday afternoon when their SUV sideswiped a FedEx truck, overturned and hit a tree near the Florida Welcome Center.
The Florida Highway Patrol said a 70-year old woman in Kia Sorento was driving in the lane next to the FedEx truck when she left the roadway toward the center median, overcorrected and sideswiped the delivery truck. The woman then lost control of the Kia, traveled back across the median, and the vehicle overturned several times as it crossed the oncoming lanes and struck a tree..
The driver of the Kia and her two passengers, females ages 38 and 47, were all transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
The 50-year old male driver of the FedEx truck was not injured.

Colethia Lewis Retires After 35 Years With Escambia County, Extension Services

Colethia Lewis has 35 years of public service to Escambia County in multiple departments, with 25 years at UF/IFAS Extension Services. She has been the face and voice of Escambia Extension for countless people that visited the Extension Office over the years.

The Chipley Tigers beat the Baker Gators 22-7 Friday night in the 1A regional finals at Baker. Chipley advances to the state semifinal December 3 against top ranked Hawthorne Hornets.
6A Regionals Semifinals
- Pine Forest 49, Mosley 14
The top-ranked Pine Forest Eagles beat the second-ranked Mosley Dolphins 49-14 Friday night at Pine Forest. The Eagles will host Jones High School of Orlando next Friday night in the state semifinals.

Thanksgiving Holiday Tragedy: 10-Year Old Dies In Rollover Wreck

A two-vehicle rollover crash west of Atmore claimed the life of an Atmore child and injured two other people on Thanksgiving eve.
The 10-year old boy was a passenger in a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 40-year old Wandra T, Gibson of Atmore. According to Alabama State Troopers, Gibson attempted to pass a Freightliner tractor-trailer drive by 50-year old Jonathan T. Jeter, also of Atmore. The crash happened about 3:58 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 31 about three miles west of Atmore.
“As the Equinox went to pass the Freightliner the vehicles collided, causing the Equinox to overturn and land in (the) roadway. The 10-year-old youth was fatally injured and pronounced deceased at the scene,” Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Sgt. Jeremy Burkett said Thursday.
Gibson and a second passenger, a 9-year old, were transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Further information has not been released as troopers continue their investigation.
