Tate Varsity And JV Cheerleaders Earn Bids To Nationals

The Tate High School varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders are headed to nationals.
The varsity squad placed first out of 16 teams during a Saturday traditional division competition, actually received two bids to nationals. The junior varsity gameday competition team placed second and earned a bid to nationals during the Central Florida Regional Qualifier in Tampa.

Escambia Paramedic John Penrose Retires After 30 Years Of Service

Escambia County recently recognized paramedic John M. Penrose who retired after 30 years of service.
Penrose began his career with Escambia County Emergency Medical Services January 31, 1991, as a relief EMT, progressing to relief paramedic, paramedic field training officer and EMS shift training officer.
Throughout Penrose’s years with Escambia County, he worked on many projects and events to promote safety and education for citizens and visitors. He represented Public Safety throughout the community with his excellent skills and service. He worked during numerous emergency activations, as well as other local disasters affecting the citizens of Escambia County.
“We are losing a generation of paramedic that we can never get back,” said Escambia County Emergency Medical Services Chief David Torsell. “I feel John has been such an integral part of our operations. We are where we are, and we continue to move forward in the direction we’re going because of people like John. He has spent the majority of his life in the service of others. I’m very proud to say that I’ve had the opportunity to know and work with John.”

AAA: Florida Gas Prices Are Falling After Crude Price Plunge

Florida gas prices are slowly adjusting to the recent crude oil price plunge. Sunday’s state average has slipped to $3.30 per gallon, after declining 4 cents during the past week. That downward trend is likely to continue this week, unless oil prices suddenly rebound.
The average price per gallon in Escambia County Sunday night was $3.22. A low of $3.08 could be found at two Cantonment stations, while several Pensacola stations were under $3.
Crude oil prices plummeted after Thanksgiving, on concerns about how the omicron variant could impact global fuel demand. The price of US crude dropped 13% after Thanksgiving and remained down all last week. Friday’s closing price of $66.26 per barrel is 15% below the price on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. It’s also 21% below the 2021 high of $84.15/b – which was recorded nearly four weeks ago.
“An oil price drop of that magnitude, if sustained, could potentially drive the state average back below $3 a gallon,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “But it won’t happen overnight. Florida pump prices are falling at a rate of 1-cent a day. Unless that rate accelerates, it could take a few more weeks before pump prices fully adjust.”
Boil Water Notice Lifted For Bell Ridge Subdivision, Patrick Lane

UPDATE: This boil water notice has been lifted.
A broken valve on a 16-inch water main led to a low or no water pressure Sunday in the Nine Mile Road area near the Navy Federal Credit Union campus and led to a precautionary boil water notice for some residents.
The boil water notice is in effect for the Bell Ridge subdivision and homes along Patrick Lane, including Bell Ridge Drive, Forest Ridge Drive and Bell Ridge Trail.
Residents located in the specified boil water notice area are advised to boil water for one minute at a rolling boil or to use eight drops of regular unscented household bleach per gallon of water, for water to be used for drinking or cooking purposes. Two independent bacteriological samples have been initiated and the advisory will be lifted as soon as possible. This process routinely takes 48 hours and the notice will be rescinded at that time.
ECUA crews have completed the repairs and flushed out the lines. Residents within the area and nearby are advised that there is a possibility of discolored water as a result of the utility work, and to flush their home’s plumbing by running their taps for a few minutes. If problems persist, customers are asked to contact ECUA Customer Service at (850) 476-0480 for assistance.
Precautionary boil water notices are issued as a part of the standard protocol following any loss of water pressure, whether as a result of planned maintenance activities or unscheduled repairs.
Beulah Celebrates With Second Annual Christmas Parade (With Photo Gallery)

Large crowds turned out for the Second Annual Beulah Christmas Parade Saturday afternoon.
The parade included numerous units from Escambia Fire Rescue and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, and well known locals including Sheriff Chip Simmons, Escambia County School Board Member Kevin Adams, Rep. Michelle Salzman, and, of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Santa Will Visit The Molino Library On Monday (With Complete Schedule For All Branches)

Santa Claus is coming to the Molino Branch Library twice this month.
Santa will be at the Molino Library on Monday, December 6 from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. and Thursday, December 16 from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m.

‘Sweetest Name I Know’ – Christmas Parade Float Dedicated To Late Beulah Chapel Member

The winning float in Saturday’s Flomaton Christmas parade was the vision of a member of Beulah Chapel Assembly of God in Byrneville, and it was dedicated to her memory.
Church member Marie Willis Greene tells us the story, in her own words:
This year we are dedicating our annual Christmas float to the memory of Mandie Kelley Lowery of Bratt (1983-2019). Mandie was working on a theme for our next parade float and thought the theme, “Jesus is the Sweetest Name I Know” would be just perfect; she was given a vision.
COVID-1p prevented us from fulfilling her vision last year.
2021 is the year for the float to become reality. It’s definitely time for the float committee to have fun, enjoy getting to know each other better while making the float a reality, and of course the most fun is looking forward to seeing the smiles on the children’s faces as candy is distributed to all.
Close your eyes and you just might see Mandie’s huge smile of approval and feel her warmth.
I hope that the words below will give our readers and members who didn’t have the pleasure of knowing her a little glimpse of who our friend Mandie was.
On the afternoon of November 30, 2019, our congregation got word that our Sister in Christ Mandie Kelley Lowery, went to be with our Lord and Savior. Absolutely no one expected the Lord to call her home while she and her family were having a fun-filled vacation in Tennessee. I’m sure right now, Mandie would want to say.. “Always be ready, no one knows when the Lord’s purpose for you is finished”. In her short time on earth she bonded (a forever bond) to many of us at Beulah Chapel. She was such an inspiration and once you met her you had a friend forever. As our pastor mentioned at her celebration, she was a Virtuous woman who was on Fire for the Lord, just to name a few of the tributes.
The Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church float will also be in the Atmore Christmas Parade on December 11 and the Barnett Crossroads Christmas Parade on December 18.
