Inmate Stabbed At Escambia County (AL) Jail

An Escambia County (AL) Detention Center inmate is recovering after being stabbed Thursday.

Sheriff Heath Jackson said one inmate was stabbed in the chest at the Brewton jail. He was transported to an area hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Mobile.

“He is stable and expected to recover,” Jackson told NorthEscambia.com.

Further details were not released, and the investigation is continuing.

Northview Knocks Off T.R. Miller 13-12 With Gilmore’s Walk-Off Triple (With Gallery)

The Northview Chiefs defeated the T.R. Miller Tigers 13-12 Thursday night in Bratt on a walk-off triple from Emma Gilmore.

Gilmore tripled on a 0-2 count in the bottom of the seventh.

Gilmore lead the Chiefs in the plate, going 3-4 at the plate with four RBIs. Chloe Ragdale was 2-4 with 2 RBIs. Northview also had hits from Jamison Gilman, Brookes, Allison Flowers and Mary-Clayton Dawson.

Aubrey Stuckey led off for the Chiefs in the circle,  allowing two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out one. Gilmore pitch two and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out two. Gilman allowed five hits and nine runs while striking out one.

The Chiefs will travel to Jay Friday at 6 p.m.

Circle K Planned For Highway 95A, Quintette Road

Plans were filed Tuesday with Escambia County Building Services for a new Circle K in Quintette.

The 5,200 square foot Circle K would be located on 2.31 acres at 2000 North Highway 95A, with driveway access from both Highway 95A and East Quintette Road.

The plans must first go to the Escambia County Development Review Committee before reaching the building permit stage.

Man Charged With Breaking Into Car Outside Local Business

A man was recently charged after breaking into a vehicle outside a Century business when they would not answer the door, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Tyler Gregory Qualls, 21, was charged with felony burglary of an unoccupied vehicle.

Qualls allegedly knocked on the side door of a business in the 8000 block of North Century Boulevard, but the victim inside did not answer. He then went to the front door, banged on the door and began talking to the video doorbell, according to the ECSO. He then got into the victim’s vehicle, and she called 911.

Deputies arrived to find the driver’s door of the victim’s vehicle open and Qualls looking through the paperwork inside, an arrest report states. The deputy noted that he was familiar with Qualls and knew that he was homeless without a vehicle.

Qualls remained in the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $4,000.

Leola Robinson Honored For Her 100th Birthday

The Town of Century has issued a proclamation recognizing the 100th birthday of resident Leola Robinson .

Robinson was born February 19, 1923, in Burnt Corn, Alabama, and known for raising her children and helping others in the community do the same, according to the proclamation.

She serves on stewardess board and mission board at Wesley Chapel Church and is a founding member of the Century-Flomaton Improvement Association. She earned a two-year teaching certificate from Alabama State University and attended Florida A&M University for two summers, paving the way for four generations of 12 FAME students to follow in her footsteps.

Womack Throws No-Hitter As Tate Aggies Beat Crestview

Peyton Womack threw a no-hitter as the Tate Aggies beat Crestview 6-0 in seven innings Wednesday night at Tate.

Kate Balagbagan went 2-2 with two RBIs to lead the Aggies at the plate. Womack, Amburleigh Laird, Kara Wine, Charli Vinson, and Olivea Latner each added a hit.

The Aggies will travel to Escambia on Tuesday.

Dirt Sharks, Aggie Mountain Bike Teams Place In Season Opener (With Gallery)

The Gulf Coast Youth Mountain Bike Association GCYMBA, kicked off its 2023 season this recently in the Alabama Cycling Association at Chewacla State Park in Auburn with the time trial prologue.

The GCYMBA is made up of 30 athletes grades 6-12 from Pensacola, South Alabama, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. With growth, the association now has two mountain bike teams – the Gulf Coast Composite “Dirt Sharks” and the Aggie Mountain Bike Team which consists of athletes from the Cantonment area.

Despite rain, middle school athletes represented the Gulf Coast very well in rainy and muddy conditions. Finley Fryfogle of the Dirt Sharks earned her first place podium with a big 20 second lead over her closest competitor in the sixth grade girls category. Sofia Franklin of the Aggie Mountain Bike Team won fourth place podium in sixth grade girls category. Braden Ruiz of the Aggie team won fourth place podium in the seventh grade boys category.

The high school athletes faced muddy trail conditions after continuous rain. The Aggie Mountain Bike Team’s Avery Storther won first place in the varsity girls category with a 20 second lead over second place. Eli Forehand of the Aggie team won third place in the ninth grade boys category.

Northview, Tate Open Baseball Season With Wins; Softball Teams Fall Short

The high school baseball and softball seasons opened Tuesday night for the Tate Aggies and the Northview Chiefs. Both baseball teams had wins, while both softball teams fell short.

BASEBALL

Tate 17, Navarre 4

  • The Tate Aggies had a 12-run second inning and five home runs Tuesday night in a big 17-4 win at Navarre. Brayden Touchstone had two homers. Ethan McAnally, Drew Reaves and James Davis each had a dinger. Gabriel Patterson earned the win for Tate on the mound.

Northview 7, Flomaton 5

  • Cason Burkett led the Chiefs driving in four while going 3-3 at the plate, and earned the win on the mound.

SOFTBALL

Gulf Breeze 10, Tate 0

T.R. Miller 21, Northview 2

  • Aubrey Stuckey had a home run in the second for the Chiefs.
