November 23, 2024

There is still time to reserve your spot to have the Miracle League of Pensacola fry your Thanksgiving turkey.

A minimum of $30 per turkey or turkey breast is necessary to help cover costs, and any additional donation will benefit the Miracle League of Pensacola.

Call (850) 380-4994 with questions or to schedule your appointment (leave a message if no answer). Walk-ups are welcome, but reservations should be made early as the number of time slots is limited and appointments take priority.

There are a few things to remember after scheduling an appointment. Completely thaw your turkey, removing all of the inside packaging and giblets. Write down exactly how much your turkey weighs so it is fried perfectly and take it to the Miracle League Park at 555 East Nine Mile Road at your appointment time between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27. And be on time for your appointment.

Individuals interested in volunteering should also call (850) 380-4994.

FDLE Charges Escambia Man With Child Porn Possession

November 23, 2024

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has arrested an Escambia County man on child pornography charges.

Connor Putnam Lindsey, 31, was charged with 20 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material by FDLE. He remained in the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $300,000.

Agents initiated the investigation in October after discovering an online user offering to share child sexual exploitation files. The investigation identified Lindsey’s residential address as that of the online user.

Agents recently served a search warrant at Lindsey’s home and seized his electronic devices. A subsequent forensic analysis of the evidence located numerous files depicting the sexual abuse of children, some as young as toddlers, FDLE said.

The case is being investigated by the FDLE Pensacola Cyber Squad and prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney, First Judicial Circuit.

Century Correctional Inmate Charged With Drug Trafficking Inside The Prison

November 22, 2024

A Century Correctional Institution inmate has been charged with drug trafficking and drug possession insides facility.

Inmate Jorge Luis Burgos-Dedis was arrested recently and booked into the Escambia County Jail on charges of possession of contraband (controlled substance) inside a correctional facility and trafficking in phenethylamines.

In February 2023, a CCI K-9 alerted on a pillow belonging to Burgos-Dedis where officer located 95.1 grams of marijuana, according to an arrest affidavit. Officers confronted Burgos-Dedis at his assigned work post in the dining hall and questioned him. He handed officers a package containing 4.6 grams of a substance, and a search located another 61.7 grams in a body cavity, the affidavit asserts.

Authorities said the 4.6 grams was methamphetamine, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement identified the 61.7 grams as Dimethylpentylone (3,4-methylenedioxy-alpha-(N,N-dimethylamino) valerophenone), more commonly known as bath salts.

He told offices that an unknown inmate gave him a small package to hold, and he was unaware of the contents. He stated that he was given $100 at the canteen for holding the contraband, authorities said.

Burgos-Dedis was serving five years on lengthy list of charges from Osceola and Orange counties, including attempted robbery with gun, grand theft, burglary, and trafficking in stolen property, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

Matt Gaetz Withdraws From Attorney General Consideration

November 21, 2024

Northwest Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz has announced that he is withdrawing from consideration for U.S. attorney general.

“I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback – and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1,” Gaetz said on social media. I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice and I’m certain he will Save America.”

President elect Donald Trump reacted as social media:

“I greatly appreciate the recent efforts of Matt Gaetz in seeking approval to be Attorney General. He was doing very well but, at the same time, did not want to be a distraction for the Administration, for which he has much respect. Matt has a wonderful future, and I look forward to watching all of the great things he will do,” Trump wrote.

Gaetz’s nomination was overshadowed by allegation of sexual misconduct that was investigated by House Ethics Committee that was not released due to his resignation from Congress.

A three-year Department of Justice did not bring any charges, and Gaetz has vehemently denied the allegations.

As for Gaetz’s former Florida District 1 Congressional seat — which oversees Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties — the state will likely hold a special election to fill the vacancy. The House speaker hopes to fill the seat before Jan. 3, 2025. Gaetz likely cannot return to the seat without being reelected.

Escambia County Supervisor of Elections Robert Bender it’s the state’s final decision on the special election, but he expects it to happen.

Molino Dollar General Assistant Manager And Her Boyfriend Charged With Theft

November 21, 2024

A Molino man and his store assistant manager girlfriend have been charged with stealing from the Dollar General in Molino.

Ronald Lee Woods, 37, and Jessica Elizabeth Fail, 39, were both charged with grand theft and coordinating with others to commit retail theft. Both charges are felonies.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Molino Dollar General location on Highway 29 just north of Molino Road where a loss prevention manager told deputies that they were instigating Fail, the assistant store manager, for employee theft that had occurred multiple times over the course of a year. The loss prevention manager told deputies that Fail had admitted to several thefts with the help of Woods, her boyfriend. The loss prevention manager said Fail provided a written statement admitting to stealing over $3,000 worth of merchandise over a period of several months, according to an arrest report.

Dollar General alleged Woods would enter the store, fill a tote with merchandise, Fail would only ring up the price of the tote, and Woods would leave with the merchandise. Most of the statements made by Woods and Fail were redacted from the report.

Woods was released from jail on a $2,500 bond, while Fail was freed on a $12,000 bond.
