Today, it’s part three of our multi-part series “the road to the crown” as we follow 24 young ladies at Northview High School in their quest for the crown and the title of “Miss NHS 2013″.

Today we introduce you to the third group of contestants. Their biographies, as submitted by the girls, are below along with their photos. You can click any photo below to enlarge. (Click for part one or part two 0f the series.)

Miss Kaitlyn Noelle Abbott

Kaitlyn is the 14-year old daughter of Brian and Stephanie Abbott. She is sponsored by the V.F.W. Post 7016 in Atmore. At Northview, Kaitlyn is a majorette for the Tribal Beat Marching Band. She is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a member of the Future Business Leaders of America. In her community, she is a member and an instructor for Twirl Time Twirlers. She takes dance at Heather Leonard’s Danceworks and is a member of the American Legion Junior Auxillary where she holds the office of secretary. Kaitlyn recently won the All-Star performer award, the Grand Championship performer, and first place in a solo competition division at the Marching Auxillary Association that was held at the University of South Alabama. She was selected to participate in the Capital One Bowl in Orlando and at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

Her hobbies including twirling the baton and dancing.

Her future plans are to attend the University of Alabama as a Crimsonette and earn her degree to become a pediatrician.

Miss Audra Elizabeth Martin

Audra is the 16-year old daughter of Doug and Sharon Martin. She is sponsored by Dr. Gibbs at Shands Hospital and Hazel’s Curl Country. Audra has been a member of the weightlifting team for two years, a member of the track team for one year, and a member of the Student Government Association for one year. She has been a member of the NJROTC for three years and has played softball for two years. In her community, Audra has played soccer for four years.

Her hobbies include swimming, weightlifting, and spending time with family and friends.

Her future plans are to attend college and then possibly join the Coast Guard.

Miss Julia Renee Thorpe

Julia is the 18-year old daughter of Jim and Mary Thorpe. She is sponsored by her family. Julia has been a member of the Beta Club for two years and currently holds the office of president. She has been a member of Rho Kappa for two years, the track team for two years, the cross country team for two years, the junior varsity volleyball team for one year, and the basketball team for three years. She has been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for two years, the Spanish club for one year, where she serves as the historian and the Art Club for two years, where she also holds the office of historian. Julia has been a member of the Tribal Spirit Yearbook staff for three years and is currently the Editor. She is in the top ten in the Senior Class and is an Atmore Rotary Club Academic All-Star. She was also chosen as the October “Student of the Month.” In her community, Julia was chosen to participate in the Youth Leadership of Atmore association. She won first place in the Sawmill Pageant Poster contest, first place in the Lions Club World Peace Poster contest, first place in the Lieutenant Governor’s Writing contest, and third place in the Farm City Essay contest. She also volunteers to work with the teachers at Bratt Elementary on planning/workdays at the beginning and end of the school year. Julia is an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Atmore and participates in their community outreach programs.

Her hobbies include reading, writing, and spending time with family and friends.

Her future plans are to attend the University of West Florida for two years and then transfer to Florida State to pursue a degree in business management.

Miss Penny Nicole Banda

Penny is the 15-year old daughter of Adam and Amanda Bailey. She is sponsored by Quincy Compressor. Penny has been a member of the junior varsity volleyball team for two years, a member of the junior varsity softball team for one year, and a member of the junior varsity basketball team for one year. She has been a member of the weightlifting team for two years and was awarded “Best Effort” for the 2011-2012 volleyball season. Penny has been a member of the Future Farmers of America for two years, the Book Club for one year, and the Student Government Association for one year. In her community, she volunteers her time at Bratt Elementary School.

Her hobbies include riding horses, reading, and spending time with loved ones.

Her future plans are to attend a four year university and study animal science.

Miss Olivia Kate Neal

Olivia is the 16-year old daughter of Waymon and Phyllis Neal. She is sponsored by Brewton Mill Federal Credit Union. Olivia has been a member of the Future Farmers of America for one year, the drama club for one year, and has played junior varsity volleyball for two years. She is a member of the weightlifting team and a member of the S.A.D.D. club. In her community, Olivia is an active member of Little Escambia Baptist Church and participates in the youth group.

Her hobbies include playing volleyball, fishing, attending mission trips, hunting, cooking, watching Alabama football, and listening to music.

Her future plans are to attend a major college and earn a degree in sports medicine.

Miss Kamryn Denise Brock

Kamryn is the 16-year old daughter of Joey and Heather Brock. Her sponsor is her family. As a freshman, Kamryn was a junior varsity cheerleader and was the recipient of the prestigious Spirit Award. She was also selected by her peers to represent them on the Homecoming Court and was voted Freshman Class Maid. This year, Kamryn is a member of the varsity cheerleading team and is also a member of the NHS competition cheerleading team. She has been a member of the Student Government Association for one year, the Future Farmers of America for one year, and a member of the Tribal Spirit Yearbook staff for one year. Kamryn was also voted freshmen and sophomore class president.

Her hobbies include hunting, fishing, and spending time with her family and friends; especially her trandfather and little brother.

Her future plans are to attend Auburn University and obtain her degree to become a veterinarian.

Miss Lauryn Elizabeth Walker

Lauryn is the 16-year old daughter of Ronnie and Joy Walker. Her sponsor for tonight is her family. Lauryn has been a junior varsity cheerleader for three years and as a sophomore, she held the title of captain. As a freshman, Lauryn was the recipient of the prestigious Spirit Award. She has been a member of the Beta Club for one year and is also an Atmore Rotary Club Academic All-Star. In her community, she volunteers her time at Byrneville Elementary School and participates in various Relay for Life events.

Her hobbies include cheering, shopping, and hanging out with friends.

Her future plans are to attending nursing school and to specialize in pediatric nursing.

Miss Karmen LeeAnna Watson

Karmen is the daughter of Kevin Watson and Kevin and Shane Spence. Her sponsor is Atmore Industry. Karmen has been a member of the track team for one year, the DCT club for one year, and is a majorette for the Tribal Beat Marching Band. In her community, she is a member of Angie Shelley’s Twirl Time and is a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore.

Her hobbies include photography, twirling, and helping people.

Her future plans are to attend fashion and photography school in New York City. Later in life, Karmen would like to open a group home for needy children.

It All Adds Up: Northview Math Team Wins Big

Thursday, the Northview High School Math Team placed second overall during the Annual JDCC Invitational Math Tournament at Jefferson Davis Community College in Brewton. The T.R. Miller High took first, while Flomaton placed third.

Members of the Northview Math Team are Justin Halteman, Winston Riley, Jazzlyn Franklin, Timothy Rackard, Courtney Lambert, Kasie Braun, Victoria Wright and Jessica Amerson. Team sponsor is Robert Lambeth.

Miss Tiffani Nichole Pritchett

Tiffany is the 16-year old daughter of James Pritchett and Debbie Lee. She is being sponsored by Escambia Drug Store. Tiffani has been on the junior varsity volleyball team for two years, a member of the varsity volleyball team for one year, and was the recipient of the 2011 “Best Offensive Volleyball Player” award. This year, she was the recipient of the “Most Improved” award. She has been on the junior varsity softball team for two years, the varsity softball team for one year, and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for one year. Tiffani has been a member of the weightlifting team for one year, a member of Rho Kappa for one year, and was an Atmore Rotary Club Academic All-Star. In her community, she has played softball for the Molino Ballpark team for seven years and she also volunteers her time to help coach younger girls in softball. Tiffani is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bratt.

Her hobbies include playing sports, reading, photography, and spending time with loved ones.

Her future plans are to attend Auburn University and pursue a medical degree. She hopes to one day become a pediatrician.

Miss Jessica Ashlynn McCall

Ashlynn is the 15-year old daughter of Robert and Danielle McCall and Kristi Crawford. She is sponsored by her family. Ashlynn has been a member of the Future Business Leaders of America for one year, the Weightlifting team for one year, and was elected sophomore class reporter. In the 2012 Miss NHS pageant, she received the “Miss Congeniality” award. In her community, Ashlynn volunteers her time at the local animal shelter and participates in a Community Outreach Ministry. She has also played community softball for seven years. She is an active member of Golan Baptist Church, volunteers with the children’s church ministry, and plays softball for the church softball team.

Her hobbies include reading, scrapbooking, home interior decorating, watching Alabama football with her Dad, and spending time with her family and friends; especially her little sister Kyleigh.

Her future plans are to attend Florida State University and major in psychology. She hopes to one day become a teen counselor. Ashlynn’s main goal in life is to help people.

Miss Mariah Laine Albritton

Mariah is the 16-year old daughter of Randy and Lisa Albritton. She is sponsored this evening by the Wrangler Steak House. Mariah has been a junior varsity cheerleader for three years, a member of the dance team for one year, and a member of the weightlifting team for one year. She has been a member of the Spanish Club for two years, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for three years, the Future Business Leaders of America for two years, and a member of Rho Kappa for one year. In her community, Mariah has volunteered with the Chief Challenge 5K Run, as well as William Station Day and Mayfest. She is a member of the Youth Leaders of Atmore and is an active member of Grace Fellowship in Atmore where she participates in the “Ignite” youth group.

Her hobbies include shopping with her mom, cheerleading, reading, writing, and spending time with loved ones.

Her future plans are to attend Pensacola State College to become an ultrasound technician. After becoming settled in her career, she wants to start a family.

Miss Courtney Elizabeth Lambert

Courtney is the 17-year old daughter of Aaron and Kim Lambert. Her sponsor is her family. Courtney has been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for four years, a member of the NHS Glee Club for one year, and a member of the Student Government Association for four years. She has been a majorette for the Tribal Beat Marching Band for four years and currently holds the title of Captain. In her community, she volunteers her time at Bratt Elementary School.

Her hobbies include twirling baton, singing, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

Her future plans are to attend Pensacola State College for two years and then transfer to the University of Florida. Courtney hopes to earn a degree to become a dentist.

Miss Rebekah Mary Sepulveda

Rebekah is the 16-year old daughter of Scott and Becky Sepulveda. She is sponsored this evening by her family. Rebekah has been a junior varsity cheerleader for three years and last year held the joint title of captain. She has been a member of the Spanish Club for one year and is currently a member of the NHS competition cheerleading team. In her community, she is an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and is involved with the S.M.Y.L.E. youth group. Rebekah also does volunteer work with her father at the Optimist Club, as well as, volunteer work at Byrneville Elementary School.

Her hobbies include cheerleading, dancing, photography, traveling, and baking.

Her future plans are to attend college and pursue a degree to become a dental hygienist.

Miss Morgan Maxine Ward

Morgan is the 15-year old daughter of Carl and Melissa Ward. She is sponsored by the First National Bank of Atmore. Morgan has been a junior varsity cheerleader for two years and currently holds the title of captain. She is also a member of the NHS competition cheerleading team, a member of the NHS Glee Club, and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is a member of the junior varsity basketball team and is also a member of the Future Business Leaders of America. While at cheerleading camp this summer, Morgan was a recipient of the “Pin It Forward” award. In her community, she is an active member of Atmore First Assembly of God Church and participates on the drama team, the Fine Arts team, and sings in the choir. For the past three years, Morgan has volunteered her time as an assistant cheerleading coach for the Northwest Escambia mini-mites. She has also participated in various Relay for Life events.

Her hobbies include cheerleading, singing, and making human videos.

Her future plans are to attend Faulkner State to earn her associate’s degree and then transfer to Auburn University to earn her degree to become a pediatrician.

Miss Julie Beth Hester

Julie is the 15-year old daughter of Jeff and Mechelle Hester. She is sponsored by her family. Julie has been a majorette for the Tribal Beat Marching Band for two years, a member of Twirl Time for five years, and an Atmore Rotary Club Academic All-Star for one year. In her community, she is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bratt, where she participates in the youth group, Team David, and the Random Acts of Kindness group. Over this summer, Julie has volunteered her time at Molino Park Elementary School and has also volunteered at Vacation Bible School.

Her hobbies include twirling the baton, fire twirling, reading books, and spending time with family and friends.

Her future plans are to attend a four year university and obtain her degree. She hopes to enter a career field which will allow her to help people, such as a counselor or therapist. While in college, Julie wants to be on the majorette line.

Miss Misty Suzanne Doran

Misty is the 17-year old daughter of Jerry and Suzanne Doran. Her sponsor is her family. Misty has been a member of the weightlifting team for three years, a member of the cross country team for one year, and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for two years. She has been a member of the Future Business Leaders of America for two years, a member of the Spanish club for two years, and a member of the Glee Club for one year. Misty has been a varsity softball player at Northview for four years and a member of the varsity volleyball team for four years. She was awarded the “Highest Batting Average” award for softball and was awarded “Best offensive and defensive” player for volleyball. This year, she was the recipient of the “Most Valuable Player for Offense” award. Misty is a majorette for the Tribal Beat Marching Band and participates in the drama department. She was in the Christmas variety show, as well as, the Veteran’s Day Program. Misty has been a member of the All-Star team and the Diamond girls for two years, an All-Area player for two years, and won the 2006 and 2011 Panama City World Series. In her community, she attends Potential Church and is a member of the “Rush” youth group. She also does volunteer work at the Century Care Center.

Her hobbies include playing the guitar, running, music, photography, and playing softball.

Her future plans are to attend Wallace State in Alabama on a softball scholarship. She wants to major in sports medicine and become an athletic trainer.

Miss Kendal Brooke Cobb

Kendal is the 15-year old daughter of Jamie and Becky Cobb. Her sponsor is “Photos by Mandie”. At Northview, Kendal has been a member of the junior varsity cheerleading team and is currently on the varsity cheerleading team. She has been in the Student Government Association for two years, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for one year, the Future Farmers of America for two years, and has played softball for one year. Kendal was selected by her peers as freshman class vice president and was also selected to represent them on the Homecoming Court. This year, she was once again selected as class vice president and was voted sophomore class maid. She is a member of the Northview High School competition cheerleading team and was selected as an Atmore Rotary Club Academic All Star. In her community, she has played softball for the Northwest Escambia softball team for five years and was on the Northwest Escambia All Star team for three years. She is an active member of Faith Bible Baptist Church.

Her hobbies include shopping, hunting, and spending time with her family and friends.

Her future plans are to attend a major university and become a Nurse Practitioner.

Miss Ashley Nicole Mooney

Ashley is the 17-year old daughter of Scott and Sandy Mooney. She is being sponsored by Lee’s Veterinary Clinic. Ashley was a member of the junior varsity cheerleading team for one year, the junior varsity softball team for one year, and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for two years. She was also voted freshman class treasurer, junior class president, and currently serves as the vice president of the senior class. Ashley has been a varsity cheerleader for three years, where she currently holds the title of co-captain, and a member of the competition cheerleading team for two years. She has been a varsity softball player for three years, a member of the track team for one year, a member of the varsity basketball team for one year, and a member of the weightlifting team for one year. She has been a member of Rho Kappa for two years, a member of the Future Farmers of America for one year, and a member of the Beta club for two years. Ashley has been in the Glee club for one year and has been a member of the Student Government Association for one year. She has been an Atmore Rotary Club Academic All Star for two years and was awarded the “Take Stock in Children” scholarship. Ashley was selected to represent her class on the Homecoming Court her sophomore, junior, and senior year. This year, she was 1st Runner-Up to the queen. At cheerleading camp this summer, Ashley was selected as an all-American cheerleader. In her community, she is an active member of Bratt First Baptist Church and has volunteered her time with the Relay For life foundation.

Her hobbies include riding horses, participating in sports, reading, and spending time with loved ones.

Her future plans are to attend Florida State University and major in pre-pharmacy.

Miss Jody Michaela Paramore

Jody is the 18-year old daughter of James and Carol Paramore. She is being sponsored by Middleton’s Clothiers and The Uptown Salon. Jody has been a member of the NHS Glee Club for one year, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for one year, and a member of the Student Government Association for one year. She has been on the weightlifting team for one year and has been on the track team for two years. Jody has volunteered her time with the mini-cheer clinic for four years and has volunteered with the Relay for Life foundation for five years. She has also volunteered with a local daycare center for three years. Jody has twirled baton for six years and has taken jazz for two years. She works part-time and helps take care of horses. Jody has also attended various modeling competitions.

Her hobbies include horseback riding, playing beach volleyball, running, creative writing and fishing.

Her future plans are to attend college and earn her degree in agricultural science.

Miss Lily Ann Townson

Lily is the 17-year old daughter of Burley and Pamila Townson. She is being sponsored by Campfire USA. Daycare. Lily has been a member of the junior varsity volleyball team for one year, the varsity volleyball team for two years, and a member of the junior varsity softball team for one year. She has been a member of the Student Government Association for one year, the Rotary Club for one year, and a member of the NHS dance team for two years. Lily currently serves as the junior class treasurer. As a sophomore, she was awarded the “Best Offensive Player” award on the volleyball team. This year, she was awarded “Best Effort”. In her community, she volunteers her time at the Century Daycare Center and at the Campfire Daycare Center.

Her hobbies include cooking, gardening, playing sports and spending time with family and friends.

Her future plans are to attend the University of Alabama and obtain a degree in psychology.

Miss Ariel Kaye Holland

Ariel is the 18-year old daughter of Wayne and Amy Holland. She is being sponsored by her family. As a freshman, Ariel was a member of the junior varsity cheerleading team. She has been a member of the varsity cheerleading team for three years and currently holds the title of co-captain. She was also the recipient of the prestigious 2011-2012 Spirit Award and a member of the NHS competition cheerleading team for two years. Ariel has been a member of the weightlifting team for two years, the golf team for one year, and the track team for three years. She has been a member of the softball team for four years, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for two years, and was voted junior class treasurer. As a freshman, Ariel was selected by her peers to represent them on the Homecoming Court and was voted Freshman Class Maid. This year, she was selected to represent the senior class on the Homecoming Court and was voted 2nd runner up to the Queen. In the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Miss NHS pageant, Ariel was among the top 10 contestants. She was voted “Most School Spirit” in the senior class “Who’s Who”. In her community, she is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bratt and participates in the Team David program. She also volunteers her time with the Northwest Escambia Cheerleaders.

Her hobbies include shopping, cheering, playing softball, and spending time with her family and friends.

Her future plans are attend college to pursue a degree as a surgical assistant. While in college, Ariel hopes to cheer.

Miss Shaquanna Mikel Jones

Shaquanna is the 17-year old daughter of Michael and Tara Jones. She is being sponsored by her family. She has been a member of the varsity basketball team for four years, a member of the softball team for four years, and a member of the weightlifting team for two years. Shaquanna has been a member of the varsity cheerleading team for two years and is currently a member of the NHS competition cheerleading team. As a junior, she was selected to represent her class on the Homecoming Court and was voted Junior Class Maid. She has been a member of the Panhandle All-Star cheerleading team for four years and was selected as the 2012 “Most Valuable Player” on the varsity basketball team. In her community, Shaquanna attends Greater Revelation Church.

Her hobbies include singing, shopping, and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Her future plans are to attend Tuskegee University and pursue a degree to become an orthodontist.

Miss Clarissa Paige Ross

Clarissa is the 18-year old daughter of Anthony Ross and Samantha Nowling. She is being sponsored by Stearns Family Chiropractic. As a freshman, Clarissa was a member of the junior varsity cheerleading team. She has been a member of the track team for two years, the NHS Glee Club for one year, and a member of the dance team for one year. In her community, she volunteers by coaching cheerleading for the Cantonment Cowboys and was a camp counselor this past summer at a local camp. Clarissa works a part-time job at Academy Sports and Outdoors and also takes gymnastics at First City in Pensacola.

Her hobbies include going to the beach, playing sports, taking pictures, and enjoying time with family and friends.

Her future plans are to attend Pensacola State College and then transfer to the University of Florida, where she will pursue a degree to become a marine biologist. While at PSC, Clarissa hopes to cheer.

Miss Ashley Renea’ Cunningham

Ashley is the 17-year old daughter of Andy and Christina Cunningham. She is being sponsored by her family. She has been a member of the Student Government Association for four years and currently serves as treasurer. She was also elected by her peers as vice president of the freshman class, as well as, vice president of the junior class. Ashley was a junior varsity cheerleader for one year and was the recipient of the prestigious Spirit Award. She has been on the varsity cheerleading team for three years and last year held the title of co-captain. This year, Ashley is the captain of the team. She is also the recipient of the 2011-2012 Best All Around award. She has been a member of the NHS Competition Cheerleading team for two years and was awarded Varsity Spirit and marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Ashley has been selected by her peers to represent them on the Homecoming Court for the past three years. She was chosen Sophomore Class Maid and this year was voted Homecoming Queen. She has been a member of the track team for three years, the Science Club for two years, and a member of the Future Farmers of America for two years. She has been a member of the dance team for two years, the weightlifting team for one year, and a member of S.W.A.N.S for two years. Ashley has been a member of the Spanish club for two years, the NHS Glee Club for one year, and was awarded the “Miss Physical Fitness” award in last year’s pageant. In track, Ashley received the “Heart of the Team” award. In her community, she shows steers independently and was the 2012 Supreme Grand Champion in GCA, NRA heifer category, as well as, the 2012 Reserve Grand Champion in the steer category.

Her hobbies include bowling, playing tennis, showing cattle, and volunteering at the Century Care Center.

Her future plans are to attend a major university and obtain her degree in education to become a teacher. She also hopes to one day coach cheerleading and tennis.

Featured Recipe: Mexican Lasagna

Today’s featured recipe for Mexican Lasagna will add new flavors to family mealtime as an old favorite gets a south of the border twist.

Mexican Lasagna

Ingredients

  • 1 can (10 3/4 ounces) Campbell’s Condensed Cheddar Cheese Soup
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 package (about 1 ounce) fajita seasoning mix
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (10 3/4 ounces) Campbell’s Condensed Golden Mushroom Soup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano leaves, crushed
  • 12 corn tortillas (5-to 6- inch)
  • Chopped tomatoes (optional)
  • Sliced green onions (optional)

Preparation

  1. Stir cheese soup, milk and half the fajita seasoning in medium bowl until mixture is smooth.
  2. Cook beef in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat until well browned, stirring often to separate meat. Pour off any fat.
  3. Stir mushroom soup, water, chili powder, oregano and remaining fajita seasoning in skillet and heat to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Cook for 5 minutes. Remove skillet from heat.
  4. Place 3 tortillas in the bottom of a 2-quart shallow baking dish, overlapping slightly. Spread 1 cup beef mixture over the tortillas. Repeat layers twice. Top with remaining tortillas. Spread the cheese soup mixture over the tortillas.
  5. Bake at 350°F. for 30 minutes or until hot and bubbling. Let stand for 10 minutes. Sprinkle with the tomatoes and onions, if desired.

Hundreds Fill A Bowl For Manna

Fill a Bowl for Manna was held Saturday to benefit the local food bank that serves clients across the area.

Attendees filled their keepsake ceramic bowl with sumptuous soups from several restaurants while helping Manna Food Panties raise funds to fill the empty bowls of more than 44,000 people in Northwest Florida.

A $30 admission fee entitled guests to a keepsake ceramic bowl filled with soups by local eateries. The event was held at the Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio of WSRE-TV.
