Northview Class Of 2019 Holds Baccalaureate Service (With Gallery)

The Northview High School Class of 2019 held their Baccalaureate service Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church of Bratt.
“Life is tough; be prepared,” Rev. Ted Bridges of the Walnut Hill Baptist Church told the seniors. “There are no free lunches in life. You’ve got to work for it.”
“Let your light sign. Don’t lose what you have achieved,” Bridges continued. “Don’t lose that relationship with Jesus.”
The program also include prayer and music provide by the Northview students.
Graduation for the Northview High School Class of 2019 will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at the school.

Hundreds Of Students Take Part In Battle Of The Books (With Results)

Hundreds of Escambia County students took part in the eighth annual Battle of the Books Saturday at Washington High School.
Over 600 students on 102 teams read books from the Sunshine State Young Readers Awards list and Florida Teens Read list over the past school year.
Participants competed by answering five rounds of eight questions Saturday.

Large Crowds Attend Century’s Sawmill Day And Car Show (With Photo Galleries)

Large crowds attended the Alger-Sullivan Historical Society’s Sawmill Day and Car Show in Century Saturday in Century’s Historic District.
The day included a vintage and custom car show, plus arts and crafts booths, plenty of historic exhibits, food and live entertainment.

Gracie Brasch Named Tate FFA Rodeo Queen

The Tate High School FFA Alumni Association has named Gracie Brasch as their 2019 Rodeo Queen.
Brasch and first runner-up Jayme Smith are both juniors at Northview High School. Other contestants were Hannah Merchant, Kenzie Ricardy, Emily Boutwell and Destiny Cleckler.
The 28th Annual Tate FFA Alumni Foundation Rodeo was held Friday and Saturday nights.

Escambia 4-H Team Places Second In State Meat Judging Contest

The Escambia County 4-H senior meat judging team placed second at the state 4-H Meat Judging Contest at the University of West Florida’s Meat Processing Center.
Participants had to identify 50 retail cuts, place eight retail, primal or carcass classes, answer questions relating to the meat industry, and give two sets of oral reasons on why and how they placed a class.
The senior team comprised of youth ages 14-18 included Jessica Conti, Hannah Schnupp, Ethan Thorne and Hannah Thorne. When the individual scores were tallied, Conti was the high individual and top meat judging 4-H member in Florida. Other individual results were Thorne placing seventh, Schnupp 10th and Schnupp 11th.
The senior 4-H meat judging team will now have the opportunity to compete at the Western National Roundup meat judging contest in Denver as part of the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in early January 2020.
The 4-H meat judging program develops life skills through activities related to the processing of beef, pork, and lamb, including retail identification, factors relating to meat quality, and cooking methods. Participants developed an understanding and appreciation of the basic scientific principles involved in eating and cooking quality, nutritional value, and consumer appeal of meat. 4-H members on the team also learned life skills such as effective decision-making, critical thinking, goal setting, and teamwork.
ECSO Mounted Posse Presents Library Story Time In Molino (Gallery)

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Posse took part in a special story time Wednesday at the Molino Branch Library.
Children were able to meet posse members and their horses and learn about the important job they do in the community, how they train their horses and horse care.

Northview Sophomore Carach Receives Grant To Fight Childhood Hunger
May 2, 2019
Northview High School sophomore Naudia Carach has been awarded a Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation Youth Grant through Youth Service America (YSA). The grant will support Carach in leading a community service project that addresses the issue of childhood hunger.
Carach’s “Sack Out Hunger” collection drive will create weekend and school break snack packs that will be available to students who may be at risk of going hungry at times when they do not have access to school provided meals.
Carach is one of 114 young leaders across the country awarded $400 grants to organize projects to help end childhood hunger and was also awarded an additional summer sustainability grant of $400.
