May 1, 2008

Dozens of people representing numerous churches gathered Thursday morning in Molino to pray on the National Day of Prayer.

“We pray for a special sense of You here in Molino, Lord,” Pastor Bryan Calhoun of Highland Baptist Church prayed. “We pray for revival here in Molino, and we pray that it would spread to Pensacola and around the world.”

About 125 people stood around the flagpole at Molino Park Elementary School at 6:50 Thursday morning to join in the non-denominational service. Those attending included pastors, moms and dads, teachers and others from the community. Children led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and in prayer.

“Dear Lord, we thank You for this day. Help the teachers get through the day,” one student prayed, bringing smiles to the faces of those in attendance.

“Thank you for letting us come here and pray at our school,” another student prayed.

About a dozen different churches were represented at the service. Baptists, Methodists, Catholics and more stood together and prayed.

“We pray for our churches. You told Peter that ‘upon this rock You will build Your church’,” Pastor Rob Hines from CrossFaith Church prayed. “Prayer affects the nation. Prayer is about to change something in this nation.”

A second Molino community-wide National Day of Prayer service will be held at 6:30 this evening at CrossFaith Church on Molino Road.

In the Bratt community, the sanctuary at the First Baptist Church of Bratt will be open for prayer until 7:00 tonight.

North Escambia Women Attend Extraordinary Women Conference

April 29, 2008

ewchildren-of-the-world-5.JPG

Scores of women from the North Escambia area attended the annual Extraordinary Women’s Conference at Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola this past weekend to hear inspiring messages and music, including a concert by Mandisa.

The following report is from one such woman…Joan Strickland from NorthEnd Community Church in Barinneau Park:

This year’s Extraordinary Women’s conference was held at Olive Baptist Church. On Friday night we were warmed up by Charles Billingsley and Michael O’Brien. We were touched by the performance of Children of the World. These are all orphans, most having lost both parents to AIDS. They performed song and dance in their native tongue and some in English. Visit their website at worldhelp.net ‘Meet the Children of Hope. Be touched. Be inspired. Be changed.’

Chonda Pierce had us rolling with laughter while taking in her sincere message of the need for churches to reach out, listen and be supportive of our communities. Mark Schultz wrapped up our Friday night with song and stories through those songs of inspiration. I have enjoyed learning more about him over the past year as he performed last year as well.

ewmandisa-her-smile-is-as-beautiful-as-her-voice.JPGOn Saturday the folks that came early were again blessed with a perfomance by World Help – Children of the World Choir. Helping us to ‘Discover God’s Dream’ were speakers throughout the day including Lisa Whelchel, Angela Thomas, Karen Kingsbury and Thelma Wells. We returned from lunch to a concert by Mandisa (pictured left), ‘that girl can sang!’ Mandisa has a gift from God in her voice and her personality as well, she is sincerely a Christian Music Artist. She signed her CDs and book and enjoyed photo opportunities with all who wished to do so. She was as kind as her beautiful smile implied she would be, truly genuine.

Next year’s E-Women conference is scheduled for April 24-25th and will be held at the Pensacola Civic Center. The 2008 conference was sold out a month before hand! Upon completion of the 2008 conference 2000+ women have already signed up for 2009! The 2009 theme is Free to be Real ‘The Lord and the Spirit are one and the same, and the Lord’s Spirit sets us free.’ II Corinthians 3:17 Learn more at www.ewomen.net or phone 1-800-526-8673.

Folks gathered at Annie Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in Walnut Hill for homecoming Sunday morning.

The Rev. George McClure welcomed the 60 or so people in the congregation.

The walls rang with the old hymns …”Love Lifted Me”, “Church in the Wildwood”, “He Lives” and “Amazing Grace”.

The Rev. Jean Spikes, who preached several revivals at Annie Jones through the years, brought the message.

As befitting any good homecoming, tables were laden with good food as everyone enjoyed dinner on the grounds after the service.

Yes Lord, We’ll Ride With You; Riding For The Son

March 30, 2008

cma08.jpg

Sometimes in life, the courage to walk up to someone you don’t know and say those first words can be tough. Finding the courage to walk up to the stereotypical tough man biker and just start talking about salvation…well, that can be even tougher.

But it is a courage that disabled Vietnam vet Michael Largay has obtained, and it is a courage that has become his passion.

“Excuse me sir, but do you know about Jesus,” he asked when he first walked up to this reporter in Century Saturday. “I wondered if I could tell you a little bit about Him.” He was unaware at the time the he was speaking to a reporter.

cma15.jpgThat’s what Michael does. Everywhere he goes, even if it is in the middle of a rough biker gang. He has turned his Honda Goldwing into a tool for reaching the lost and pointing them toward the Golden Gates of Heaven.

“We ride for the Lord,” he said of the group he participates with, the Christian Motorcycle Association (the CMA).

The Bible says in Luke14:23 “And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” That’s the motto of the bikers that ride with the group. They hit the highways and let other bikers know about the Lord. Anytime, anywhere. Even if it is at the Florida Welcome Center on I-10 waiting for bikers on their way to the notoriously wild Daytona Bike Week.

cma09.jpg“Just being on this bike opens doors,” Michael said of his Honda Goldwing, which was recently named the best in class at the Florida Goldwing Rally. “This is a missionary tool. Just being on this bike has a way of attracting other bikers to speak.”

“A lot of bikers are not the typical people that would go to a regular church on Sunday. They say ‘a church ain’t cool’, so they are not going to come to know the Lord that way. “But if you go up to them and say ‘hey, can I bless your bike’ that usually works. That opens the door. You can ask them before you start if there’s anything you can pray for in their lives.”

“Lord, bless this bike, and keep it and its rider safe on the highways,” he said his prayer usually beings. “Then you add ‘Lord, bless this man and his problems’. They come to realize that God is their God too, and He cares about them. And that they can come to know Him.”

“Bikers know when they see this patch that they can get anything they need, whether it be medical help, mechanical help, money or prayer,” he said pointing to his CMA patch that says “Riding for the Son”.

Another man walks over, admiring the Honda Goldwing.

“I wish I could get a bike like this,” he told Michael, “but my wife would never let me.”

“Do you know Jesus,” Michael asked the man.

“Yes sir, I do. We love Him, and we go to Ray’s Chapel,” the man said.

“Well, tell her that you could get a bike and do missionary work for the Lord. She might let you get one.”

cma20.jpgMichael’s friend and fellow CMA member David Davis (pictured left) both sing in the choir at East Brent Baptist Church in Pensacola. Davis said he never misses the opportunity to witness, especially to children.

“I like meeting other people, especially children, and telling them about Jesus,” David said.

“Yeah, he will practically chase a child down to give them a Bible, Michael said.

Michael never missed an opportunity to tell others about Jesus either. He recently joined a Honda Goldwing group in Pensacola. “That’s open more channels for me to tell others about Jesus, because I got to lead prayer for the group.”

“If just one person, just one, can come to know the Lord because of what I do, I will be a happy man,” he said. “It is not about the number of people you lead to Jesus. It is about talking and talking to people until the Lord leads you to that one person that needs to be saved.”

“It’s all about Him. It’s all about Jesus.”

Molino Sunrise Service Celebrates Resurrection

March 23, 2008

sunrise21.jpg

Six Molino churches came together for an Easter Morning Sunrise Service Sunday morning at Aldersgate Methodist Church.

Some wore their Sunday best and others came in jeans and t-shirts to celebrate the risen Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Over 100 braved a cold wind to sing, hear the Easter message from Bro. Jeff McKee from Victory Assembly of God, and pray.

The event included worshipers from Aldersgate Methodist Church, New Beginnings Church of God, Molino First Assembly of God, Highland Baptist church, Victory Assembly of God and NorthEnd Community Church.

The Bible says:

Matthew 28:1-20

Resurrection Morning
1 After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to view the tomb. 2 Suddenly there was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and approached [the tomb]. He rolled back the stone and was sitting on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his robe was as white as snow. 4 The guards were so shaken from fear of him that they became like dead men. 5

But the angel told the women, “Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here! For He has been resurrected, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell His disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead. In fact, He is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see Him there.’ Listen, I have told you.”

8 So, departing quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, they ran to tell His disciples the news. 9 Just then Jesus met them and said, “Good morning!” They came up, took hold of His feet, and worshiped Him. 10 Then Jesus told them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see Me there.”

The Soldiers Are Bribed to Lie
11 As they were on their way, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 After the priests had assembled with the elders and agreed on a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money 13 and told them, “Say this, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole Him while we were sleeping.’ 14 If this reaches the governor’s ears, we will deal with him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So they took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been spread among Jewish people to this day.

The Great Commission
16 The 11 disciples traveled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped, but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

March 23, 2008

whegg57.jpg

Walnut Hill Baptist Church held its annual Spring Fling Saturday afternoon at Dream Acres Farm on Mason Road.

The annual event included an Easter Egg Hunt, food, fishing, a puppet show and even an Egg Drop. In the Egg Drop, children created containers they thought could be dropped from the loft of a barn to the ground with an egg inside…without breaking the egg. Four children were successful in creating such containers, including one design that included a parachute (pictured below).
