Progress Continues On Molino Library, Tax Collector And Appraiser Offices

It’s been about two months since a groundbreaking was held at the old Molino school, and progress is evident on the $4 million project.
The project includes the conversion of the old Molino School into a 15,600 square foot library, community center and museum under a $2.95 million construction contract awarded by Escambia County to Birkshire Johnstone, LLC.
In addition to converting the 72-year old school building, a new 7,000 square foot building is being constructed adjacent to the old building for the tax collector and property appraiser. The current Escambia County Tax Collector office in the former Winn Dixie shopping center in Cantonment and the property appraiser office on Highway 97 in Molino will both be closed. The facility will also house a polling station for early voting and elections.
Final completion for both buildings is scheduled for November 2012.

To Creekbather: I don’t understand your comment. The library is going to be IN the school building. The new structure going up will be the tax collectors office. I am not in the construction business but every new building/house I have ever seen built starts with wood.
why are they investing so much money in two x fours and wooden structures ?, gonna go to the library in a storm,,,,with a wooden structure?,
I am so glad to see this happening to Molino School. I went there in the second grade the first year it opened and left there after 9th grade to go to Tate. I have so many good memories of my time there. Thanks to all who helped to save it.

I cannot wait for the library to open. Next years History projects will be so much easier to work on being able to go to our “hometown” library. This is awesome for our area.

This is awesome! My concern when Molino Elementary was closed was that this site would become an eyesore. So glad to see it is being put to very good use and will be used by many people.

I rarely travel down 95A, preferring to make my long commute down hwy 29 and had no idea this construction was going on. This is the most exciting news I’ve read since moving to molino 7 years ago. I’m sooooo excited to be getting a library so close!!!
