Our redneck friends and neighbors in north Santa Rosa County celebrated Christmas with their annual Chumuckla Redneck Christmas Parade Saturday. Tens of thousands of people attended the parade and BonfireJam with Josh Turner, Jamey Johnson and Lee Brice.
Deer, camo, trucks and tractors were a common theme, along just good redneck fun.
Proceeds from the event benefit children in the Chumuckla community at Christmas.

I like how it seems to everyone that all the floats had people drinking on them.. Wrong …..Our float did not have people drinking on it . And neither did some of the floats behind ours. It is sad that there is so much stereo typing going on. Yes there were some outrageous floats but not all were like that. People are going to act Crazy no matter where you go to for a parade.
Thank Goodness it is over with, until next year.
When you go to a redneck parade what do you expect? I have always wanted to go since I first herd of it and this was My first year and I loved it. If someone gets offended by( redneck) then you should have stayed at occupy wall street or something .

429SCJ : You honestly see no racist undertones in a strategically placed George Wallace endorsement surrounded by confederate flags? The only things I have ever been subjected to are education, morals, and the occasional observation of some sort of prideful racism that still exists in the south that is justified as “part of our heritage”. The late George Wallace may have been a decent man, but the George Wallace that represented the confederacy was a racist who sought only power and glory and who admitted to these convictions later in life. He may have done some good things as governor, but that is not what people remember him for and that is not why those kids on the LiVE float put it there.
Hello have some class, I see no shame in Gov Wallace, he was a great leader, who did what he thought was good for his people, just as many other great leaders have done, in the interest of their people. I do not know what kind of indoctrination you have been subjected to in your life, I just say each unto his own, nothing personal.

Hater I did not attend, I did not see what transpired. I had heard several individuals refer to the event as the Red Neck Parade, with no mention of Christmas. I just say if you are going to have a parade with adult themes, don’t advertise it as a family event, no matter what you call it. I personally would not endure a mob of thousands to see the Stones, much less a Red Neck Parade, nothing personal to the area rednecks. I own a 4×4, and a pair of catepillar boots, I just don’t party with large groups, in public. I hope next year, everybody gets what they expected, and that they go home happy.

429SCJ. Really….an adult themed Christmas parade. I agree they need to tell folks that it is ok for people on floats to act trashy. Not all did and sad to say it wasn’t just one or two. Enough are doing it that it ruins it for families. People can read the other commites and see this is not a one or two people thing. I do support you in they should advertise the adult nature of some of the floats so people can stay away that do not want to be subjected to it
What a waste!! This parade has turned into a joke…. I don’t think you can even call it a Parade anymore. By the time it crossed the crossroads it had turned into a drunken street party. I don’t think an endless line of “Jacked-up trucks” pulling a utility trailer with drunken idiots sitting on hay bales can be considered a “Christmas” Parade. What are the rules anyway, anyone who has a half naked girlfriend, a big truck, a string of beer cans, and some bucktooth buddies can enter…REALLY!!
This parade used to have some creativity in it. We would take the kids and enjoy seeing how imaginative the floats where. Now I will never again set for four hours to watch this garbage. It was so broken up there where 10- 20 minutes of nothing!!!!! I finally got IN the Parade to get OUT of the Parade and leave with about 50 other cars!!!

Set some rules— Be man enough to tell somone their float doesn’t qualify and send them packing.
This parade is for a great cause and is intended to be a family event. My family was one of the first floats when this parade started and there was only about 30 people that made up the entire thing. There was no alcohol involved back then, it was a bunch of country families having a good time. The name was just something they came up with to be silly. I agree that it has gotten a little out of hand but honestly I have been to parades all around here and your gonna have alcohol everywhere! I’m proud to call Chumuckla my hometown and just so all you people slamming us and saying we are all “trailer trash”, maybe you should take a good look around at all the nice and well taken care of places next time your passing through. Some of the most generous, well mannered people come from this little town. So if you don’t like the way we do things around take yourself back to your “town” and stop complaining about ours! Merry Christmas everyone & Ya’ll have a blessed day!
Hater perhaps after you graduate, you can find more comfortable latitudes. It might be a good idea next year for promoters, to advertise this as an adult themed event. I do not think anyone was dragged there kicking and screaming. I have shown up at social functions and asked myself, what are these kids doing here? I stay a bit, say hello, and discretely ease on down the road. The parents should have taken their children and left, at the first sign of offensive behavior. I think this was all just a simple misunderstanding, which through communication will be avoided in 2012.
To 429SCJ : No disrespect to the Confederate battle flag was intended. Being a history major in college I know very well the history of the south and the stories behind the men that died defending states rights. I have no need to look in a mirror for any reason. The ones needing to look in the mirror are the ones that believe they are the backbone of America and talk of family and church and the like then allow blow up sex dolls in a parade and filthy rap music to be played. So reflex on that.
I absolutely loved the parade!! I was in it and actually rode a horse (black and white paint) It was my first time to ever go to it or be in it. I had a blast and will be back next year!! ROLL TIDE I LOVE THE SOUTH!!
I have been bringing my kids to this parade for the past 3 years…my kids are now 3,5, and 6…they love it!!! This year was the best ever!!! The food was great they had more vendors…it was awesome! They each filled up a bag full of the goodies! I thought everything went smoothly…getting in and leaving was a breeze this year!! Can’t wait till next year!! It was my niece’s first time goin and my bro -n-laws girlfriends first time too…she said she would never miss this! We had a great time! keep up the good work!!! Love The Redneck Christmas Parade!!

Yes some may have gotten carried away a bit with the drinking. But hell if you where on a float and looked out at the crowd we would fall off the float to our deaths for sure so a few drinks are taken as a safety measure
So lighten up. The drivers MUST be completely sober. I’ve driven my fair share in several parades from Mardi Gras to this one. Every driver knows they are the ones responsible for the rest of their crew and the safety of everyone on the parade route. As long as they are straight and not acting a fool this it should all be considered fun. That and if your a redneck and you do not drink then you lose your card.
Wow, I think some of you need to lighten up. Name one parade here on the Redneck Riviera that has floats in it that DOESN’T include drunk people throwing beads. Whether it’s the BIll Bowlegs parade down in Fort Walton Beach, the Downtown Christmas parade in Pensacola, or any of the dozen mardi gras parades in the area, some people are going to drink. As longs as floats are not veering off the parade route and rampaging through the crowds, it isn’t terribly difficult to deal with it, even if you bring your kids. Again, lighten up.
I dont think these people are trailer trash either – I know quite a few of them myself and they are definitely not trailer trash – quite a few have two and three story houses and live out on beautiful acreages. This is what the redneck Christmas parade is – people drink at this kind of thing and if you are worried about your children seeing it then dont take them. Think of the sausage festival and things like that… there is drinking there too and it is said to be a family function… its just part of it. Now that you know, just dont go back – but next time be wary of going to the middle of the woods to an event that has “redneck” in it – because chances are there will be drinking…. just sayin.

I have been to this parade for years and my kids love it. I hope it does stop jus because one kid was probably jumping on side of float!!! CANT WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR!!!
ITS CALLED A REDNECK PARADE BECAUSE THAT IS WHO GOES…REDNECKS!! FLOATS ARE MENT TO BE THROWED TOGETHER USING TOILETS TUBS DEER MUDDY TRUCKSETC. MY KIDS LOOK FORWARD TO THE PARADE EVERY YEAR! THEY LOVE GETTING THE SLIM JIMS CANDY BEADS AND WHATEVER ELSE THEY DECIDE TO THROW. IT IS FAMILY FUN WE ENJOY TAKING OUR GRILLS AND GRILLING!! IF U HAVE A PROBLEM WITH LOUD OBNOXIOUS PEOPLE THEN MVE UP NORTH BECAUSE THIS IS HOW REDNECKS ACT!!!

To Dangerous Parade: We do not know how the young child is doing. We CAN NOT make parents watch their children. Children will do what ever they can get away with. This will not tarnish the Community Centers reputation, because like I stated before we CAN NOT make parents watch their children.
Does anyone know how the 8yr old that fell off a float and was ran over is doing? Of course not because this was not mentioned in any coverage, we would not want to tarnish the reputation of the community leaders and businesses represented. Beware of anything with “Redneck” in the name.
Redneck Parade Lover …………….I think your going too far saying “trailer trash” couldn’t afford the throws LOL. Because I for one, know of a “business owner” who doesn’t pay for any of the items (throws) from his “float” he goes around yard sales begging for left overs all year long, and I see NOTHING wrong with that. OH, and he also answers many, many adds on craigslist (FREE STUFF), nothing wrong with that either, for a rich person lol. He also begs for free stuff to deck out his “float” and I’m not complaining about that EITHER……….SO, it’s really NOT as exspensive as YOU make it out to be.
And YES it is for fun, family and KIDS (you said it) even children who live in them thar awful ole trailers, it’s not SAMMYS, it’s not BABES and NOOOOO, thar aint posed to be no bunch of alcehol and dope. SO in conclusion, you should be ashamed calling folks trailer trash, HEY I forgot to mention I know at least THREE “float” owners in the parade who live in doublewides. God Bless you!

With all that being said. ANYTHING that is done in honor of children, I salute.
Everyone knows that this parade is for fun & for helping children in need. No it’s not a PG13 parade , and it is one of the top 10 largest parades & most spectators in the US. So with that being said , if it offends you stay at home , don’t come out there. Because most of the people here are not trailer trash these are business owners from all over….Santa Rosa , Escambia , Okaloosa counties to name a few……trailer trash couldn’t afford to pay for the throws , must less pay to decorate their float, which I might add is VERY expensive! These people term themselves ” REDNECKS” cause its just their way of saying he’s a good ole boy! Yes , there were people there drinking but I didn’t see anyone out of line , they come out to support their REDNECK side and they did that. What I would like to say is The Chumuckla Redneck Christmas Parade is awesome & thank you to the committee that went to all the work….Great Job!!! To all the spectators…..glad you were there but I was so ashamed to see all the trash you left on the roadsides, even in peoples front yards where they let you park in their yard, next year be more respectful and take your trash with you , or you will be the one crying when they discontinue the parade because of all the trash left behind by the trailer trash!!
Hater, I have to agree with you on everything except that Rebel Flag. It is a part of my Southern Heratige, hundreds of thousands of Southerners, died to defend it. The Struggle did happen, it is not a fairy tale. I recommend you go sit before the mirror, and do some more hating.
My husband is over this parade and the workers try to make it a family event. You can thank your local Police Department for the rest. There is not supposed to be any alcohol on the floats. Once the parade starts we can not stop it. There were police stationed at several intervals along the parade route to deal with drinking. If you go to any parade you will probably find the same thing. I am very proud of the Chumuckla Athletic Association for all the hard work they did.

After seeing numerous people making plans on FACEBOOK, to meeet at 5 am that morning to set up their area, setting up house with everything but a garage, with most of the menu being whiskey, beer, “a little smoke” then steak, bakedbeans,and some candy and hotdogs for the kids…..NO THANK YOU!
I will never make it a family event. I hear too many stories on the things that go on, ladies who flash the “rednecks” in the parade, and so dang much crazy talk, vulgar talk, and even fighting. Nope, noway!!!!
It’s a shame to take something funny, amusing, meant for the family and have to mix it with drugs and alcohol.

And we wonder why people make fun of the South. I’m sorry, but I’m a proud southerner and I don’t think promoting living like trailer trash is what the South is about. It’s about community, grace, and being raised with values. It’s about taking pride in our homes and our heritage. This parade does none of that. It’s just an excuse to act like heathens and drink.
I totally agree with you on the drunk people throwing candy and this is suppose to be a family event!!! A christmas parade does not usually include parents sitting on the side drinking while kids catch candy and beads its a waste of time to go!!
This is one of the most entertaining parades you will ever see.
My first year and my last. Nothing says Christmas like drunk people throwing candy. This really doesn’t qualify as a Christmas parade.
