Four People Injured In Flomaton Crash; Two Transported By LifeFlight

Four people, including three members of the same family, were injured in a collision on Highway 31 east of Flomaton Sunday afternoon.
The accident happened just after 4:00 Sunday afternoon on Highway 31 at Old Fannie Road. Two people were transported to Pensacola by two different LifeFlight helicopters, one to Sacred Heart Hospital and one to Baptist Hospital.
Officials say the car, driven by David Smith of Flomaton collided with a truck driven George Hauer. Smith was transported to Baptist Hospital by ambulance was non-life threatening injuries. Hauer was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital by LifeFlight in serious condition.
Leigh Smith, a passenger in car, was transported by LifeFlight to Baptist Hospital in critical condition. Her condition was reportedly upgraded to stable Sunday night. Another passenger in the car, Samantha Bryant, a senior at Flomaton High School, was transported to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola with non life threatening injuries. Passenger Curtis Byrant refused treatment the scene.
The Flomaton Fire Department, Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, Century Station of Escambia Fire Rescue, Escambia County EMS, Atmore Ambluance, Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Department, Flomaton Police Department and Alabama State Troopers were among those that responded.
The accident is still under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.

For the Concerned Citizens, a little bit of clarification. Yep those helments can be heavy, and yes I have worn one for over 20 years. A person who really values the importance of saving lives and not becoming the one being saved or just another statistic, will make sure they wear the gear that not only protects them and the team around them, but more importantly the person they are trying to save. No amount of money should ever be allowed to dictate what we should do to be responsible to our fellow firemen and the person who is relying on us to rescue them. You can do both, follow proper safety and operational protocol and save lives just as quickly as you can without following the protocol. It is great that everyone from this unfortunate incident is alright, and rescuers do put their lives on the line everyday for friends and strangers alike, and for that they are to be commended.
The pic is ok they are trying to save a life….. like the others say if they done wear the right gear that will fall back on them.. we just have to pray nothing happens while they are helping out….. they are putting their lives on the line to help soemone else, no matter what they are wearing.))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I have talk to the church and they are sending out a prayer request. Ther are 43 people praying everyone will heal quickly. I will keep you in my prayers.

I am so thankful that Leigh, David, Sammie and Curt are going to be ok. You are all in my prayers! Leigh, I love you girl! God was truly watching out for you all and I wish you a speedy recovery. You’ve got to be at that class reunion or it won’t be worth the trip for Randy and I. Love to you, David and the kids!
To the families involved, we are praying for a speedy recovery and are thankful with you that you are all alive! To the emergency personnel who responded, THANK You for all you do! To RDB, not sure if you know this or not, but, 95% of the responders yesterday and most of the time are VOLUNTEERS, they do not get paid to wake up in the middle of the night to go to a wreck, house fire, medical call, ect.! Also, have you, RDB, ever worn one of those helments? It’s very heavy and in some situations hard to see what you are doing when you are saving someone’s life! Therefore I would be very grateful, even if one of these fine gentlemen showed up in a barney costume to save one of my family members lives!
thank you all for your prayers! my dad, brother, and i all got to come home last night but suffered a few injuries. curt has a broken wrist, and dad has a broken jaw as well as the socket of his hip bone has a chip in it. i just have bruises and am really sore but thankful that we are all ok!! Mom is going to have to have a few surgeries over the next week or so.. on her right side, she has 4 broken ribs, a broken shoulder, and a broken knee…he face is swollen..and a few of her teeth were pushed back. i am so thankful to GOD and i give HIM all the praise that we are alive/ we are going back to see mom today and she is going to make it! she is so strong! thank you all for your prayers, thoughts, calls, and emails!! they truly do mean a lot! And thank you to all of the EMT’s, policemen, firemen, and anyone else that helped out yesterday! I don;t know what we would do or where we would be without all of those strong and brave people that save lives everyday!!

.David workes with my husband ,he and his wife are great people,and they are i am sure thankful for all the help they got.I am sure they don’t care what the help was or was not wearing.

I’m sorry but I just got to comment…I don’t care if the person rescueing me was butt naked or wearing a clown suit while whistling Dixie as long as he or she was willing to put their life on the line to save mine. HOORAY to rescuers everywherr! And prayers to all.

Regardless of a helmet or not, If it was me in a wrck, I would want this group attending me. They are fast, dependable and very knowledgable in wreck sitsuations. GO FIREMEN!!!! And this story was about the people hurt not the rescuers, Prayers to all involved.
