Escambia County Is Beginning Debris Removal. Here’s How To Separate It Correctly.

Escambia County is beginning its recovery process in the wake of Hurricane Sally. Curbside removal of debris generated by Hurricane Sally will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Escambia County residents, that can safely do so, are asked to place any storm-generated debris on the public right of way (the area of residential property that extends from the street to the sidewalk, ditch, utility pole or easement.)
Debris that was generated by Hurricane Sally should be placed and sorted on the area immediately adjoining the road in front of your home. The county has divided its jurisdiction into three zones and contracted with three separate companies to accomplish the debris removal in 90 days.
Residents are urged to separate the debris as follows:
- Vegetative Debris (whole trees, tree stumps, tree branches, tree trunks and other leafy material)
- Construction and Demolition Debris (damaged components of buildings and structures such lumber and wood, wall board, glass, metal, roofing materials, tile, furnishings and fixtures)
- Appliances and White Goods (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, heat pumps, ovens, ranges, washing machines, clothes dryers and water heaters)
- Electronic Waste (computers, televisions, office electronic equipment, etc.)
- Household Hazardous Waste (materials that are ignitable, reactive, toxic or corrosive such as paints, cleaners, pesticides, etc.)
Only loose debris will be collected; bagged debris should not be placed on the public right of way. Make every attempt to avoid stacking debris below low hanging power or utility lines.
Do not place debris within four feet of:
- Mailboxes
- Water meters
- Fire hydrants, or any other above-ground utility
Only debris placed on the public right of way will be eligible for collection until further notice.
If all debris is not picked up during the initial pass, please continue to push remaining debris to the right of way for collection on subsequent passes.

The construction and demolition debris left by hurricane Sally has been in our curbside for almost 2 months now and I have not seen the debris removal truck in our housing area since I moved those debris from our backyard to the curbside. I live at 5850 Roble Loma Dr. 32526 and called your office at least 3 times for information. Please don’t forget our area before they completed the debris removal. Thank you.
I have debris curb side since the day Sally 16 Sept. Have not seen any pickup completed here. 591 Ard Drive. A little tired waiting. What’s the hold up? You can call if you want 850-384-4137.

We still have not had our first round of tree debris pick up! A truck came halfway down our street about 4 weeks ago, but, never returned to finish the street.
Also no pick up of fencing yet.

I have been wilting for the storm debris to be picked up in our area on silverado road. I also dont understand the part about separating the material. 2 days after the storm people starting emptying their homes and setting it to the curb. A week later a statement was put out to separate the material. So will these piles not be picked up after all this time. There will be a lot of upset people.
Debris in Devonshire Estates was partially removed a few weeks ago. When will the remainder be removed–no rhyme or reason to what was or was not picked up.

When can I expect debris pickup on my street? Some streets in my subdivision (Coral Creek) have had debris removed at least 1 – 1 1/2 weeks ago where other streets haven’t been touched. I haven’t even seen trucks in my subdivision.

You are assuming everyone has enough frontage on the road to do this. Mine is 15′ wide without blocking the mailbox and driveway.
I just watched ‘bertha’ pick up the wreckage of half a dozen tall pine trees. My thanks and congratulations to that crew for doing such a fine and efficient job. Great work.
Are destroyed fencing lumber materials included in debris removal? Some say yes and some say no. Could you please clarify?
Our house is on a corner lot and we have a fire hydrant on that corner. Residents from up the street have brought their downed trees and limbs and blocked the hydrant. Do I call the Fire Dept for debris removal?
I, and several of my neighbors, access our water front properties via access easements. We have no frontage on a county road. Where are we supposed to put downed trees, and all the busted up dock sections that washed up onto and under our homes???? (These aren’t our docks, but we are stuck dealing with the aftermath)

If I dump the 6 or 7 bags of leaves onto the street with the wind we are having they will be all over the neighborhood that everyone has worked so hard to clean up.
Most have already bagged the leaves. What are we supposed to do? Dump them on top of the other debris. I don’t believe Escambia County has vaccum trucks to suck up all the leaves!!
How many passes will there be for each area?
I live in a cul-de-sac and if we place the big branches and piles of leaves on the public right of way, then my car nor my neighbors will not have enough space to drive thru — our driveways almost meet at the curb so we placed the branches and leaves on our yard, between our driveways, just behind the curb — will that be a problem?
So about the power lines and lack off cox cable trucks with zero internet service for 32514 Meadowbrook drive Pensacola Florida. I’m a first responder I work at a grocery store. since no internet it means no schedule. no schedule means no food for everyone. Stores are running out off food and water where is the att and cox cable trucks Pensacola Florida gulf power promised us hmm?
Does the tree debris have to be cut into specific lengths of can it be whole trees? We have been caught in the past nyvtree company cutting and leaving whole trees then we have to pay again to have it cut into 4 foot lengths. Thanks for your time.

Same here Jerry. I have several large previously recommended paper bags full of leaves. This leaves me with the same question. Maybe there is a fear that someone will try to slip something into the container.
How about plastic 30 gallon cans of yard leaves. Should we dump them out of the cans in piles.
Does this include Highway 29 in Molino?
Will debris be picked up in Bratt area of State Line Rd.? Specifically West State Line Road and Old Bratt Rd. We live in Florida.
