Shorecrest Prep Beats Jay 5-3 In State Semi-Finals
May 24, 2010
The Jay Royals lost to the Shorecrest Prep Chargers 5-3 in seven innings Monday afternoon in the Class 2 semi-finals in Port Saint Lucie, Florida.
Shorecrest took an early lead in the first 4-0, thanks in part to a wet, slick field that had the Royals slipping and the Chargers with three consecutive singles.
Kevin Stanton led the bottom of the third with a triple. Conner Weekes scored from third on an third baseman error to make it 4-1 in the bottom of the second. Then Stanton was in from third to make it 4-2.
In the sixth, a single up the center by Payden Roberts scored Stanton to make it 5-3. The Royals almost pulled off a rally in the bottom of the sixth, but Hunter Boutwell struck out with runners on second and third for the final out of the inning.
Hunter Brown pitched seven inning for the Royals, allowing seven hits, four errors and striking out three.
Rush Hendricks was 2-4, D Smith was was 1-4, Kevin Stanton was 3-4 with two runs, C Weekes was 1-4 with a run, P Roberts was 2-3 with an RB, T Prescott had an RBI, Sawyer Gandy was 2-3.
