Photos: Bald Eagle Spotted In Walnut Hill

A bald eagle was spotted in Walnut Hill about noon Wednesday. The eagle was in the top of a tree along Highway 97 in Walnut Hill, within about a mile of Ernest Ward Middle School — home of the EWMS Eagles. NorthEscambia.com photos, click to enlarge.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, there were 1,280 pairs of bald eagles in Florida last nesting season. FWC has a mapping project to map eagle’s nests; there are no nests mapped by FWC in north Escambia or Santa Rosa counties. To read more about eagles in Florida, click here and here. Eagles are no longer an endangered or threatened species; however, they are protected by state and federal law.

I just saw one in Miami…. I live in Kendall and I see hawks, falcons, ibis, cranes, and parrots all the time. First time ever, I saw an eagle… I think it was an eagle… the wing span was huge and the head was white.
Eagles have a very spirtual meaning to Indians and this is a very beautiful picture . Thank-you very much for for putting them on here . Sometimes all you here about is the negative is so nice to here something as postive as this .
Thanks for sharing your great picture! Last week I saw a bald eagle flying on Hwy 97 near Devine Farms Road. He was flying low and then swooped up and into a pine tree. It was the coolest thing I have ever seen.

There has been a nesting pair of eagles off of Corley Rd, behind the farm fields there is a 150 acar track of trees, there is a nesting pair in those pine trees, I’ve seen them for years. When I first saw them they had brown heads, they were young and know they have the white heads and tail.

Beautiful photos!!! When I worked out at (used to be Air Products) in Pace, there was at least one bald eagle. The guy that would come out from the Audobon Society took some photos… but these are awesome.

We see them this time of year close to my hunting lease on Pine Forest rd. in Walnut Hill around the sod fields. and fish ponds

That is just too cool! I had no idea they were anywhere near here! I get excited when I see an owl or hawk… I couldn’t imagine seeing a Bald Eagle.
We live on Deere Creek Rd and have seen a bald eagle a few times each year. They are always perched at the very top of a pine tree…BEAUTIFUL sight!!

I was in ORange Beach last week for a conference and spotted one in Gulf State Park. That was the first one I had ever seen in the S. Alabama/NW Florida area. I’m glad their range is expanding.
A few months ago my husband and I were fishing at Wiggins Lake and an eagle flew down and scooped a fish out of the lake. He than flew to the top of a dead tree and perched there for a long time the with the fish in his claws. He stayed there until the fish stopped flopping around and than he flew off. It was amazing to watch!
I’ve seen them too on Arthur Brown Road. I think I’ve seen two at a time. Always wanted to get a picture. This is neat!
I’ve frequently seen an eagle, this one or another, along 97 near Ernest Ward and along Arthur Brown Road around the curve near Escambia Grain. Yesterday (thanks to someone that called!) was the first time I had the chance to take a picture of it sitting still. I just wish I could have gotten closer for a better picture. A very majestic site!

This past Saturday my grandson and I saw this bald eagle while we where crossing Brushy Creek bridge on Auther Brown Road.
I’ve lived here me whole life and have never seen a bald eagle. But then, I’ve never been overly observant.
I always thought it was funny that Benjamin Franklin didn’t favor the bald eagle for the Great Seal, but a turkey. But I understand why after reading his letter to his daughter.

My parents also have a catfish pond & they seem to like sitting in the trees beside the pond. I guess the fish are a quick snack if they get hungry

It is not really very rare at all to spot a bald eagle in northwest Florida. The birds are present here year round and are often seen nesting in tall trees. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Distribution_H._leucocephalus.png

We live on Pine Forest rd by a lot of catfish ponds and have seen the eagles for years. They stay here year round. Have for about 4 or 5 years now. Have numerous pictures and see them daily. There are young and mature eagles. The young birds are brown and don’t get the white head and tail until they are approx. 5 years of age. Look for the yellow beak and claws to idenitify the young birds.
