Urban Legend? Standing An Egg On Its End As Fall Begins
September 22, 2009
Fall officially began at 4:18 Tuesday afternoon — the fall equinox. Urban legend says that you can stand an egg on its end on the spring and fall equinox, but we found many websites that say there’s nothing special about the two times of the year.
But in the interest of science, and with risk of having scrambled eggs, we tried it anyway here NorthEscambia.com. We were able to stand several eggs on end with little effort and no accidents.
Urban legend? We are not sure if we are able to stand eggs on end at other times of the year. No one here has ever tried.

Well this has been a tradition for some time with me….This year it raised questions from co workers, “Why just the first day of fall?”
So, today I broke the myth, it is November 15, 2011, the egg I stood up on the equinox is still standing and I stood 3 more eggs on end today.
Someone has some explaining to do…I say the myth is broken….Well, at least the eggs aren’t.
Hmm…pass the salt….;)
That is the cleanest floor I’ve ever seen!
Made a bet with the wife I could do this. Tried for two hours while she watched dancing with the stars. I failed. Grrr….
I just tried the egg stand test just before 8pm. Three out of three eggs performed a a nice
roll job.
Learn something new everyday.
Definately works!
My Mom did it when I was little. She was so excited. She was going to show it to my Dad when he got home from work. Well, curiosity got the best of me (I was only about 6 or 7) and I just had to touch it. I knocked it over and my brother and I were the only ones to see it.
Anyway, it worked for her when she did it about 20 years ago.
We tried this about 4:45 after seeing the story here. Did not work out so well. None of the eggs would stand on end.
We also discovered that our dining room table is not level, it goes downhill. Eggs are round and roll downhill.
Messy.
