December 30, 2024

Jimmy Hayes Barnett, age 75, of Pensacola, Florida, left this world on December 21, 2024. He was born on October 2, 1949, in Bay Minette, Alabama, to Charlie and Hayes Barnett.

Jimmy served his country with pride for 32 years in the United States Army, from the Vietnam draft to a 2004 deployment in Iraq. He held a great sense of pride in the years and dedication he gave to his country.

He was the proud owner of Gateswood Sports Inc. from 1988 to 2008 and later served as grounds manager of ARC Gateway of Pensacola from 2010 until retiring in 2023.

Family was one of the most important things in Jimmy’s life as he helped begin a decades-long Jernigan family reunion happening every year to this day.

Jimmy was also an avid gardener and cultivator of many types of fruiting plants including pears, apples, muscadines, persimmons, figs, olives, and satsumas. His expertise was sought by many in the community. He also enjoyed spending time in the woods riding around with his brothers, feeding the deer, checking game cameras, and admiring everything nature had to offer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Barnett; his son, Patrick (Susie) Barnett; stepdaughters, Crystal and Christina Rayburn; his brothers, George (Anita) Barnett, Buddy (Vanessa) Barnett, and Joe (Glenda) Barnett; his sisters, Sue (Ed) Lane and Janie Quick; his sister-in-law, Debra Barnett; and countless adored nieces and nephews.
