Bernice Duncan ‘Mee Maw’ Respres

Bernice Duncan “Mee Maw” Respress, age 97, of Atmore, AL passed away on October 13, 2024 in Century, FL. She was born on September 8, 1927 in Opp, AL to Robert Levi and Rosa Lee Reeves Duncan. She attended First Baptist Church of Atmore and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Clayton Chapter #306 Huxford, AL since 1959 where she served as secretary from 1959 until 2011. She also was employed with the Escambia County Alabama Tax Collector’s Probate Office. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvis Respress and her siblings, Tom Duncan, Dow Duncan, Arrona Norris, Rudell Thomas and Brunize Parish.

She is survived by her son, Benny Alvin (Bobbie) Respress of Atmore, AL; her grandchildren, Leslie (Ray) Sellers and Tyler (Ashley) Respress and her great grandchildren, Jackson Sellers, Myles Sellers, Sara Respress and Kara Respress.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kevin Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in Serenity Gardens in Atmore, AL.

Active pallbearers will be Ray Sellers, Jackson Sellers, Kenny Duncan, Jerry Parish, Joey Parish and John Hassebrock.

Honorary pallbearers will be Morgan Mason, Matthew Mason, Randall Musgrove and Heath Fillmore.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

    What a wonderful soul Escambia County, Alabama lost. I had the pleasure of being a teller and helping her many years as she worked for our County. She will be greatly missed!
