Highway 29 Southbound To I-10 Detour Scheduled To Start Today
September 16, 2024
UPDATE: Readers tell us this detour did not start Monday as announced by FDOT. We’ve reached out to FDOT for more information and a new schedule.
On Monday, September 16, drivers from Highway 29 southbound will be detoured to a temporary on-ramp to access I-10 eastbound. The temporary on-ramp will allow crews to reconstruct the interchange, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
FDOT reminds drivers that the Highway 29 northbound ramp to I-10 eastbound is also closed. Highway 29 northbound drivers will continue north and make a U-turn at Broad Street onto U.S. 29 southbound to access I-10 eastbound. Directional signage is in place to direct drivers through the work zone.
The $236 million project to construct all-new I-10 travel lanes and about a dozen bridges is expected to be complete by 2030. FDOT said 62,000 commuters travel through the corridor daily.
This detour was schedule from begin September 9, but was delayed by weather.
All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Scott, was at 10-110/Davis hwy today at 4:30 and traffic was backed up all the way from Davis back up to near where 10/100 split. All due to one traffic light at Davis Hwy and 10 by the Coke plant….
For the MOST part no one lives South 29, most folks live NORTH 29, north of 10. To spend all this $$$ where there wasnt a problem while we have so MANY other traffic nightmares just doesnt make sense….Maybe some public record requests need to be forthcoming….
Over 10 years to complete the I-10 I-110 interchanges back in the day. But it all works great. No doubt I-10 Hwy 29 interchanges will be the same. Suck it up and be patient folks. No im not a part of construction. I’m just a commuter.
didn’t happen today, likely not to happen next week or the week after that either. They’ve only paved a very small part of what will “eventually” become the new on-ramp. 5-6 year project? If this is an indication of how this is going to go it will be like Davis Hwy or 9-YEAR Rd! Alabama might have a replacement bridge over Mobile Bay done by the time the FDOT gets this mess figured out!
Things were working so well, but the state had to foul it up. What is it, 6,7,8,25 years of chaos?
